About this listing
We'd love to share our house at the beach with you!
Our family has owned and enjoyed this hillside cottage for 35 years. We have always loved being 'on the hill' because of the lovely feel of the neighborhood and the lush profusion of plants and trees.
The location has the best of both worlds, the mountain view on one side and the ocean view on the other. It's removed just enough from the hub bub of the downtown beach scene.
One block from the house is the path to the one general grocery store and the village's main drag. One more block and you are on the beach.
The layout of the house is nice for a group. The 2 bedrooms are on opposite ends, allowing for privacy.
There are several outdoor spots to retreat to: a large covered front porch with a dining table and chairs, a small back porch and a large backyard deck 50 feet from the house.
The kitchen, dining room and living room are open-plan with lovely high open beamed ceilings. One bedroom faces the street and the other one the ocean.
The loft has a view of the mountains. Both kids and adults find the loft cozy.
Each bedroom has a Queen bed and the sleeping loft an extra-long twin.1 bath home sleeps 5 comfortably, no pull-out sofa beds!
Views of ocean and Mt. Tamalpais foothills from the spacious front porch, master bedroom and large backyard deck. 3 TV's, cable, DVD player, stereo and wi-fi.
Amenities include, washer/dryer, microwave, toaster, coffee maker, BBQ. Off and on street parking.
The entire house, except the garage.
Our neighborhood, locally referred to as "The Hill" has a lovely, peaceful feel to it. Our neighbors are mostly local, full-time residents. The folks are very friendly, so feel free to say Hello! Walks around the neighborhood are particularly nice, revealing interesting homes, from 1920's bungalows to new modern architcture. And the hill is lush with flowers, trees and succulents to boot.
The famous Dipsea trailhead is right around the corner and the Matt Davis trail begins a block away. All the trails connect so you can pick your distance.
Other Things to Note
* Dear new & returning guests,
Due to the recent enforcement enhancement of Marin County's 10% hotel occupancy tax (this applies to vacation rentals as well) we will need to increase nightly/weekly rental rates by 10 percent. The new rates will be in effect August 1, 2015 and will apply to all new bookings. Existing reservations will remain at the rate at which they were booked.
* During the High Season - May 30- August 31 we are booking Saturday to Saturday stays and there is a 1 week minimum.
* The week of Thanksgiving is always a 7 night minimum at Standard Rates.
**No smoking inside.
**Respect the neighbors by keeping the noise level down
**Respect for the septic system - nothing but toilet paper in the loo.
About the Host, Penny
I am a native Californian and a 4th generation San Franciscan. I've owned the house for 35 years and have lived in it off and on. We've always cherished 'the beach house' in our family. The neighborhood on the hill has really not changed much over the years. My favorite activities at Stinson include daily walks around the neighborhood with friends, volunteering at the library, an aerobics class for seniors and, of course, endless walks on the beach.
I live in Marin County now. Spend time with my son and my sweetheart. We go to the farmers' market, cook, shop at Ikea. Going over to San Francisco to the museums is top on our list. I travel to see my daughter who lives in Santa Fe with my two grand-pugs once or twice a year. I stay busy with water aerobics, volunteering at a thrift shop and sewing with my girlfriends.
