The space

Welcome to the other Kells, in the county of Kilkenny; our cottage is located opposite the King's river in the historical village of Kells. This lovingly restored thatch-roofed cottage is nestled in an area of great natural beauty and unique archaeological heritage. Originally built in the late 18th century by a local entrepreneurial family, the Mill Cottage was the Mullins family ancestral home. Today the charming cottage has been sympathetically refurbished and restored to recreate old world charm, with a modern twist. The house is surrounded by lovely gardens nurtured by the previous and present owners and resulting in a peaceful and visually stunning landscape.

The Mill Cottage has a warm and homely atmosphere from the moment you step inside. The accommodation offers two beautifully furnished and decorated bedrooms (one double, one twin), bathroom with waterfall shower, a large cosy living room with original open fireplace and wood burning stove, and a modern kitchen with all mod cons (electric oven & hob, microwave, fridge/freezer, etc.). A hall leads out to the gardens, with steps leading up to a small apple orchard from which are views of the surrounding countryside, mills, church spires and the nearby historic Augustinian Priory. Situated in an idyllic rural location, the Mill Cottage is for someone looking for something special and unique.

Camping within the gardens is available and great fun!!, You can email me for more information.

Kells is a beautiful rural Irish village surrounded by rolling fields leading down to the lively Kings River. With numerous historic buildings, the music and craic in local pubs, as well as local shops and other amenities, Kells is a pleasant place to take a break and relax as well as visiting nearby places of interest, such as Kilkenny, Thomastown, Graiguenamanagh and Inistioge. Walking in and around Kells village is peaceful and full of discoveries. A 12th century Augustinian Priory adjacent to the Mill Cottage is one the most magnificent medieval monuments in Ireland. Kilree, an old religious site with an impressive round tower, high cross and ancient church, is a pleasant 1.5km walk from the village centre. There are also a number of activity trails throughout the county and can be found by searching local websites.

Located just 13km from Thomastown and Kilkenny city, the Mill Cottage is within easy reach of amenities such as restaurants, pubs, shopping, and transport, including train stations in both Thomastown and Kilkenny city. The county also boasts outdoor activities such as golfing in the nearby Mount Juliet Hotel grounds, scenic fishing spots along Kings River and River Nore, and various other attractions (Kilkenny Castle, Black Abbey, Jerpoint Abbey and Dunmore Caves). The newly built motorway from Dublin is 3km from Kells Village which is ideal for traveling throughout the entire sunny southeast of Ireland.

Kilkenny: The mediaeval capital of Ireland as well as home to Ireland’s crafts industries and famous festivals – Rhythm and Roots Weekend (May bank holiday weekend), the Cats Laughs Festival (June bank holiday weekend), Thomastown Traditional Irish Music weekend (August bank holiday weekend), Kilkenny Arts Festival (10th Aug – 19th).

Some of Ireland’s finest studio workshops are located in the scenic valley of the River Nore. The Craft Trail is perhaps the best way to sample each artist and their workshops, which are easily found in Kilkenny city, Bennettsbridge, Thomastown and Inistioge. Information on The Craft Trail is available at the cottage.

Dave and Jadzia were so kind and informative about the area as well as very accommodating and hospitable. The home has such a cozy charm to it. One the best and most memorable places I have ever stayed. If you're looking for a true Ireland getaway near historical towns and friendly locals, this is the place to stay!

This idyllic cottage is perfectly situated just outside of the charming medieval city of Kilkenny. It has all the iconic Irish country charm but with beautifully restored modern conveniences to make this a comfortable setting for a single person to a whole family. I was greeted by Dave upon arrival who was beyond generous with his time in getting us situated with the cottage and its inner workings. He shared with us his local favorite locations and eateries as well as invited us to come and watch him play traditional Irish music at a local pub. What an incredible delight! He is quite the musician. The cottage itself is extremely clean and neat without being sterile. It is warm and inviting with all the rustic charm expected - an original stone fireplace with a iron fire stove, wide planked wooden floors, comfy furniture, cozy bedrooms and all the darling nooks & crannies. The garden is gorgeous with levels of fruit and floral plants and chickens to boot! And, their farm fresh eggs were such a delicious treat! Parking is on site. The cottage is walking distance of the entire village - with direct access to Mullin's Mill, Kells Priory and a couple pubs in town and a short driving distance (10-15 minutes) to Kilkenny and other neighboring villages where you can find several shopping, eating, drinking, sight-seeing and entertainment option. This is a wonderful get-away for anyone that wants to enjoy the peace and quiet of a country village but with the convenience of access to a nearby city for entertainment. I highly recommend not only this cottage, but the joy and pleasure to have Jadzia & Dave as the incredible hosts as they are. A true gem in Ireland!

We loved our stay at the Enchanted Mill Cottage. It is decorated with charm and care. Every detail was taken care of to make us feel welcome down to the fire in the living room stove. The gardens surrounding the cottage were lovely. We enjoyed walking to the Kells monastery and mills by the stream. It was a peaceful, relaxing setting - great place to "get away from it all".

The enchanting mill cottage was everything we expected and more. Truly a magical location. Beautiful surroundings with breathtaking sceneries ranging from a historical castle, Kells Priory, to local mills and a charming quaint town. The perfect balance of seclusion and local interaction. Once at the cottage everything is literally available to you from a brisk walking distance. Our host was kind enough to give us a quick drive guide around town & provided a map but was not needed because of the simple layout of the landscape. My husband and i were looking for a romantic, beautiful, unforgettable getaway for our honeymoon/anniversary and this cottage truly delivered and didn't dissapoint.

What a wonderful cottage! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Kells. The setting was perfect, the cottage and gardens are charming. It was the perfect next relaxing stop after a couple of days in busy Dublin. The walk to the Priory is a must-do!
