Welcome to the other Kells, in the county of Kilkenny; our cottage is located opposite the King's river in the historical village of Kells. This lovingly restored thatch-roofed cottage is nestled in an area of great natural beauty and unique archaeological heritage. Originally built in the late 18th century by a local entrepreneurial family, the Mill Cottage was the Mullins family ancestral home. Today the charming cottage has been sympathetically refurbished and restored to recreate old world charm, with a modern twist. The house is surrounded by lovely gardens nurtured by the previous and present owners and resulting in a peaceful and visually stunning landscape.
The Mill Cottage has a warm and homely atmosphere from the moment you step inside. The accommodation offers two beautifully furnished and decorated bedrooms (one double, one twin), bathroom with waterfall shower, a large cosy living room with original open fireplace and wood burning stove, and a modern kitchen with all mod cons (electric oven & hob, microwave, fridge/freezer, etc.). A hall leads out to the gardens, with steps leading up to a small apple orchard from which are views of the surrounding countryside, mills, church spires and the nearby historic Augustinian Priory. Situated in an idyllic rural location, the Mill Cottage is for someone looking for something special and unique.
Camping within the gardens is available and great fun!!, You can email me for more information.

With numerous historic buildings, the music and craic in local pubs, as well as local shops and other amenities, Kells is a pleasant place to take a break and relax as well as visiting nearby places of interest, such as Kilkenny, Thomastown, Graiguenamanagh and Inistioge. Walking in and around Kells village is peaceful and full of discoveries. A 12th century Augustinian Priory adjacent to the Mill Cottage is one the most magnificent medieval monuments in Ireland. Kilree, an old religious site with an impressive round tower, high cross and ancient church, is a pleasant 1.5km walk from the village centre. There are also a number of activity trails throughout the county and can be found by searching local websites.
Located just 13km from Thomastown and Kilkenny city, the Mill Cottage is within easy reach of amenities such as restaurants, pubs, shopping, and transport, including train stations in both Thomastown and Kilkenny city. The county also boasts outdoor activities such as golfing in the nearby Mount Juliet Hotel grounds, scenic fishing spots along Kings River and River Nore, and various other attractions (Kilkenny Castle, Black Abbey, Jerpoint Abbey and Dunmore Caves). We are a laid back bunch so just appreciate that you treat our home as you would your own. Other than that no real restrictions but to enjoy!!
To think that something could be even more beautiful in person than the pictures posted of their cottage is hard to believe, but it was true! The Enchanting Mill Cottage and the enchanting hosts were all that you could hope for and more on a special trip to Ireland. They were so welcoming and helpful, as well as great to chat and laugh with. Jadzia's gardens were outstanding -- her roses were more beautiful than even Woodstock Gardens in Inistioge. I look forward to the chance to visit with them again! Thanks Guys!!
Thank you Jadzia and Dave for a lovely stay at the Mill cottage. It was just what we needed after several busy days in Dublin.
The cottage is unique in its history, artsy and creative in its decoration and perfectly equipped. The beds were some of the most comfortable in our weeks of travel. We relaxed and enjoyed the cozy living room with peat fire and the blooming and beautiful grounds. It was an easy stroll into the charming village of Kells and around the deserted grounds of the historic Priory.
More than anything, our stay at the Mill cottage was genuinely comfortable and peaceful thanks to our gracious hosts. We greatly appreciated their concern, kindness and generosity. Thank you for the craic and the music and your Irish warmth.
My family's favorite part of our 2 week vacation was our time spent here. This cottage is such a happy little place with such friendly and welcoming hosts. Dave and Jadzia went out of their way to make our stay special and give us a great experience. Our kids can't stop talking about this place and how much they miss it and want to go back. As far as places to stay in Ireland go, I would call this place idyllic and almost magical.
From the moment we arrived, we felt the magic and charm of the cottage.
Peaceful, beautifully appointed decor and gorgeous gardens provided us with the perfect setting. Best of all. our "super hosts" Dave and Jadzia were the kindness, most generous people we have ever met. We felt incredibly blessed to have met them and shared in their slice of paradise.
God willing. We will return...this time
for a much longer stay!
The photos with this listing are very accurate. This picturesque thatched cottage is thirty seconds away from a beautiful river with a mill a beautiful bridge. Further up the road, about a two minute walk, you can walk along a quiet, grassy walk way along the river past another mill up to the ruins of Kells priory. They are absolutely beautiful. The cottage itself is exactly as photographed. It's a cosy space but filled with everything you need. The hosts David and Jadzia are so welcoming and are genuinely nice people. We really loved the garden, which is shared between their own home and the cottage. It is beautifully arranged and is very spacious so we never felt in their way.
When we first arrived Jadzia and Dave showed us around and all of the amenities. The kitchen cupboards had staple foods with fresh eggs on the counter and milk in the fridge. It was great to have them right next door in case we had questions. The listing was very accurate- the cottage was beautiful. Everyone in the village was very friendly.
Jadzia and Dave are amazing hosts. The cottage was more than we could ever hope for. The 6 days we spent were perfect and relaxing after a month long tour of Europe. We felt like family and miss Jadzia and Dave and tbe cottage already.... thank you so much for a wonderful 6 days.
