Welcome to the other Kells, in the county of Kilkenny; our cottage is located opposite the King's river in the historical village of Kells. This lovingly restored thatch-roofed cottage is nestled in an area of great natural beauty and unique archaeological heritage. Originally built in the late 18th century by a local entrepreneurial family, the Mill Cottage was the Mullins family ancestral home. Today the charming cottage has been sympathetically refurbished and restored to recreate old world charm, with a modern twist. The house is surrounded by lovely gardens nurtured by the previous and present owners and resulting in a peaceful and visually stunning landscape.
The Mill Cottage has a warm and homely atmosphere from the moment you step inside. The accommodation offers two beautifully furnished and decorated bedrooms (one double, one twin), bathroom with waterfall shower, a large cosy living room with original open fireplace and wood burning stove, and a modern kitchen with all mod cons (electric oven & hob, microwave, fridge/freezer, etc.). A hall leads out to the gardens, with steps leading up to a small apple orchard from which are views of the surrounding countryside, mills, church spires and the nearby historic Augustinian Priory. Situated in an idyllic rural location, the Mill Cottage is for someone looking for something special and unique.
Camping within the gardens is available and great fun!!, You can email me for more information.

With numerous historic buildings, the music and craic in local pubs, as well as local shops and other amenities, Kells is a pleasant place to take a break and relax as well as visiting nearby places of interest, such as Kilkenny, Thomastown, Graiguenamanagh and Inistioge. Walking in and around Kells village is peaceful and full of discoveries. A 12th century Augustinian Priory adjacent to the Mill Cottage is one the most magnificent medieval monuments in Ireland. Kilree, an old religious site with an impressive round tower, high cross and ancient church, is a pleasant 1.5km walk from the village centre. There are also a number of activity trails throughout the county and can be found by searching local websites.
Located just 13km from Thomastown and Kilkenny city, the Mill Cottage is within easy reach of amenities such as restaurants, pubs, shopping, and transport, including train stations in both Thomastown and Kilkenny city. The county also boasts outdoor activities such as golfing in the nearby Mount Juliet Hotel grounds, scenic fishing spots along Kings River and River Nore, and various other attractions (Kilkenny Castle, Black Abbey, Jerpoint Abbey and Dunmore Caves). The newly built motorway from Dublin is 3km from Kells Village which is ideal for traveling throughout the entire sunny southeast of Ireland.

Some of Ireland’s finest studio workshops are located in the scenic valley of the River Nore. We are a laid back bunch so just appreciate that you treat our home as you would your own. Other than that no real restrictions but to enjoy!!
Without a doubt, staying at the Enchanting Cottage was a highlight unto itself... Warmly welcomed with Irish wit and humour, we quickly felt at home in this idyllic setting. Our hosts answered all our questions... Even the silly ones. Knowledge of the surrounding area, places to eat and to visit, was excellent. Every recommendation made was bang on!!!
we we're sorry to leave, and had we known all which that little piece of paradise offered, we would have stayed longer. would recommend this to anyone, and would hope to have a chance to return someday.
Perfect home and setting! Host was extremely helpful and fun too. House had everything you would need for a short or long stay. The town has lovely walks all around and feels extremely safe. Stay here and you will love it!
Absolutely wonderful. The location, the friendly hosts, cozy fire every evening, comfy beds....we cannot say enough about this truly enchanting place. Easy drive to town for sights, dining and shopping. We used this as a base to visit Cahir, Lismore, Cashel, Glendalough and many others. Very peaceful setting with beautiful gardens. I highly recommend adding a few extra days because you will not want to leave!
Dave was a wonderful host. Unfortunately Jadzia could not meet us. But she was wonderful and easy to communicate with. Dave had the house all set up for us. Outstanding cottage. Warm and inviting and nestled in the quiet little town of kells but a 5 minute walk to a hidden gem of a priory. The priory is visible from the beautiful garden in the back of the house. Perfect spot for coffee in the morning or a drink at night. See the priory in the distance and watch the sun go down. The house itself it great. Terrific fireplace and very comfortable rooms. A short walk into town takes you to two small town pubs. Shirley's and mad jacks. Might not be a super lively pubs but the people are warm and inviting. Mad jacks a talker and has lots of great stories. Kells is a great place to visit the surrounding areas of Kilkenny Waterford and Wexford. Had a fantastic stay.
The character of this home was fabulous. Dave met us with a fire going, food set out for us, and gave us all the tips we needed. The cottage was nice inside and out, was set in the country but close to Kilkenny, and an easy walk to Kells Priory, one of our most memorable historic sights we visited. We would definitely stay there again and recommend it to others.
The stay at this location was very unique and truly exceptional. The hosts care very much about this place and it showed. It was terrific to have fresh eggs and toast provided in the morning and all of the kitchen supplies to make it a home away from home. The fireplace was cozy and really set the ambiance for a cottage. The piece that set this place apart was its walking proximity to the nearby Kells Abbey ruins. It's not often that you can make a coffee and take a leisurely stroll through ruins at sunrise or sunset. 15 minute casual drive to Kilkenny if you want to visit shops and see live music. A 5 minute walk to the local pub and grocery store. Would stay at this place again in a heartbeat.
The Enchanting Mill was exactly as I had imagined. It was quaint, authentic and exuded a tranquility that soon helped me unwind and relax. The setting is something out of a novel or a painting. Jadzia has an artistic flair and it is obvious in the way she has decorated the house. But more than that, both she and Dave were so friendly and welcoming, so easy to talk to. A wonderful find. You must visit if you are down that way.
