Welcome to the other Kells, in the county of Kilkenny; our cottage is located opposite the King's river in the historical village of Kells. This lovingly restored thatch-roofed cottage is nestled in an area of great natural beauty and unique archaeological heritage. Originally built in the late 18th century by a local entrepreneurial family, the Mill Cottage was the Mullins family ancestral home. Today the charming cottage has been sympathetically refurbished and restored to recreate old world charm, with a modern twist. The house is surrounded by lovely gardens nurtured by the previous and present owners and resulting in a peaceful and visually stunning landscape.
The Mill Cottage has a warm and homely atmosphere from the moment you step inside. The accommodation offers two beautifully furnished and decorated bedrooms (one double, one twin), bathroom with waterfall shower, a large cosy living room with original open fireplace and wood burning stove, and a modern kitchen with all mod cons (electric oven & hob, microwave, fridge/freezer, etc.). A hall leads out to the gardens, with steps leading up to a small apple orchard from which are views of the surrounding countryside, mills, church spires and the nearby historic Augustinian Priory. Situated in an idyllic rural location, the Mill Cottage is for someone looking for something special and unique.
Camping within the gardens is available and great fun!!, You can email me for more information.
Kells is a beautiful rural Irish village surrounded by rolling fields leading down to the lively Kings River. With numerous historic buildings, the music and craic in local pubs, as well as local shops and other amenities, Kells is a pleasant place to take a break and relax as well as visiting nearby places of interest, such as Kilkenny, Thomastown, Graiguenamanagh and Inistioge. Walking in and around Kells village is peaceful and full of discoveries. A 12th century Augustinian Priory adjacent to the Mill Cottage is one the most magnificent medieval monuments in Ireland. Kilree, an old religious site with an impressive round tower, high cross and ancient church, is a pleasant 1.5km walk from the village centre. There are also a number of activity trails throughout the county and can be found by searching local websites.
Located just 13km from Thomastown and Kilkenny city, the Mill Cottage is within easy reach of amenities such as restaurants, pubs, shopping, and transport, including train stations in both Thomastown and Kilkenny city. The county also boasts outdoor activities such as golfing in the nearby Mount Juliet Hotel grounds, scenic fishing spots along Kings River and River Nore, and various other attractions (Kilkenny Castle, Black Abbey, Jerpoint Abbey and Dunmore Caves). The newly built motorway from Dublin is 3km from Kells Village which is ideal for traveling throughout the entire sunny southeast of Ireland.

Some of Ireland’s finest studio workshops are located in the scenic valley of the River Nore. The Craft Trail is perhaps the best way to sample each artist and their workshops, which are easily found in Kilkenny city, Bennettsbridge, Thomastown and Inistioge. Information on The Craft Trail is available at the cottage.

We are a laid back bunch so just appreciate that you treat our home as you would your own. Other than that no real restrictions but to enjoy!!
We loved this cottage and its wonderful garden. Dave was a very nice host always there when needed ihm for information, a chat or a helping hand to change the flat wheel of our car!
Our very accommodating hosts Dave and Jadzia made us feel at home in this magical place! We are very pleased the way Dave briefed us about the house rules and manuals, etc. He gave fantastic recommendations for pubs, food and must-see places. Dave even gave us eggs for breakfast from his chickens in the yard! The lovely couple always made sure that we are comfortable and showed us around the property and Jadzia being a green thumb has thousands of different plants, flowers, herbs and veggies in their elevated backyard.
The neighborhood is so idyllic and everyone is so friendly and so helpful when we actually lost our way, two joggers made sure we found the cottage. The cottage is just a 5 minute walk from Kells Priory and the best way to get there is through the Old Mill where the tree lined road is between a creek and the river.
This is a must visit cottage and it is a destination by itself you can stay a day or two without going anywhere else. I strongly recommend to come here on the lovelier days of summer where the flowers are in full bloom and 20 apple trees are ready for picking.
This place really enchanted the whole family and our daughter thought she is in a fairy tale movie!
The cottage is the ideal getaway. If you want to relax and get away from it all, this is the place. Jadzia and Dave were so hospitable and the cottage was so comfortable, it was hard to leave. From relaxing in front of the 300 year old hearth or taking a stroll along the river and up into the village for a pint or two, we really enjoyed our weekend of 'doing nothing'. The cottage is easy to find, so warm and comfortable, and it has all the amenities and bits and bobs you'd need. Both Jadzia and Dave are so house proud about their cottage, caring and thoughtful in their approach to guests and the stories about their music passion will want you coming back for more. Can't wait to get back for another break. Two nights just isn't enough though!
When I think about my dreamy trip to Ireland, "The Enchanting Mill Cottage" will stand in the foreground of my memories as the charming, delightful old cottage where I made some of my happiest memories. I would recommend this home for anyone seeking a serene getaway, as well as friends and family looking to bond and reconnect. The home is positively gorgeous and the hosts are lovely people.
Don't sell yourself short, book as many days here as you can! When I think about my dreamy trip to Ireland, "The Enchanting Mill Cottage" will stand in the foreground of my memories as the charming, delightful old cottage where I made some of my happiest memories. I was lucky enough to spend St. Patrick's Day with Jadzia and her husband and can't say enough positive things. They are lovely people to be around, filled with the "Airbnb spirit" of belonging -- I truly felt that I belonged at Jadzia's home. It's apparent that many other guests have felt the same way, too. Before arrival, Jadzia's communications were prompt, clear, and friendly. The home was exactly as described and so accommodating to travelers, with plenty of maps, guidebooks, flyers, and handouts to make your stay more productive and enjoyable.
The cottage is adorable in every way and includes all necessary amenities such as plenty of pots and pans, a washing machine, shampoo, movies, games, etc. The bed was very comfy, with fine sheets, soft blankets, nice pillows and best of all, hot water bottles! The house was very clean as well, which I wasn't sure I could expect from a historic cottage.
Overall, I just felt an incredible sense of attention to detail and that this delightful couple chooses to host because they love people, not just for money. Staying here was a truly pleasurable experience, and I can't wait to come back someday. I would recommend this home for anyone seeking a serene getaway, as well as friends and family looking to bond and reconnect. Just to reiterate, 2 days is not really enough to get everything there is to get out of this little cottage and its charming rural setting, so try to stay for as long as you can. : )
Jadzia and Dave are extraordinary and extremely friendly and thoughtful hosts who made me and my family feel simply at home in their cottage. The cottage itself (300 years old) is very picturesque, cosy, tastefully decorated and is kept spotless. This is great place for a family weekend and for visiting Kilkenny. Highly recommended!
