Welcome to the other Kells, in the county of Kilkenny; our thatched cottage is located opposite the King's river in the quaint village of Kells, Co. Kilkenny. This lovingly restored thatch-roofed Mill Cottage is nestled in an area of great natural beauty and unique archaeological heritage. Originally built in the late 18th century by a local entrepreneurial family, the Mill Cottage was the Mullins family ancestral home. Today the charming thatched cottage has been sympathetically refurbished and restored to recreate old world charm, with a modern twist. The house is surrounded by lovely gardens nurtured by the previous and present owners and resulting in a peaceful and visually stunning landscape.
The Mill Cottage has a warm and homely atmosphere from the moment you step inside. The accommodation offers two beautifully furnished and decorated bedrooms (one double, one twin), bathroom with waterfall shower, a large cosy living room with original open fireplace and wood burning stove, and a modern kitchen with all mod cons (electric oven & hob, microwave, fridge/freezer, etc.). A hall leads out to the gardens, with steps leading up to a small apple orchard from which are views of the surrounding countryside, mills, church spires and the nearby historic Augustinian Priory. Situated in an idyllic rural location, the Mill Cottage is for someone looking for something special and unique.
Camping within the gardens is available and great fun!!, You can email me for more information.

Our experience at the mill cottage was great! Our hosts were very friendly and accommodating and the cottage had tons of character and charm.
Just a few things to note:
* it gets quite cold at night so be sure to use the heaters or the fireplace (which our hosts graciously prepared for us prior to our arrival). We made the mistake of not using either on our first night!
* apparently people were shorter 300 years ago so mind your head on the front door (I got a bit of a shiner!)
* the hot water heater is small so don't expect long, hot showers
All in all we really enjoyed our experience at the cottage and would highly recommend it.
We stayed at the Mill Cottage and it was everything it says on the tin. Jadzia and Dave were the nicest people you could hope to meet; I only wish we could have heard Dave play while we were there and that we could have stayed longer. Walking through Kells Priory at dusk was amazing, and as they work to preserve it, should only get better. We loved the cd Dave gave us and hope to be back to hear him live.
Absolutely wonderful. The cottage is beautiful and Kells (email hidden). Will have to come back and visit the chickens, Dave and Jadzia again!
Jadzia and Dave were fantastic hosts, a warm welcome on arrival, they explained everything about the house and made us feel very comfortable and at home. We were able to listen to some lovely local Irish tunes on the cd player while enjoying a slice of local soda bread and butter provided by Jadzia and Dave. The house is beautiful the pictures do not do it justice and the garden surrounding it magical. Lots of information about the local area with more little places to visit and explore than we could fit into our short stay. The house is well appointed, a large shower area feels luxurious, the bed is big and comfortable with nice dark curtains so you can sleep in. It is an old house so I was expecting it to be a little cold however the heating was great and there were extra oil heaters and hot water bottles if you needed them. We were traveling with a baby and enjoyed sitting by the fire in the evening with a glass of wine while she slept, it is a great house and get away for a baby lots of interesting places for them to play inside and outside and lovely walks just out the front door. I could not recommend a stay here highly enough if you are trying to decided between a couple of options just stay here, we were in another place for a couple of days prior and lamented this after our arrival. With such great hosts a house that is comfortable, homely and warm and so much going on in the area there is no other choice. We will certainly be coming back for a gig at the red shed
I could no possibly boast enough about how amazing this stay was! Jadzia and Dave are terrific hosts and the cottage is absolutely perfect! The perfect quintessential Irish cottage, Jadzia has done an amazing job perfecting the warm and comfortable feel inside and out! The hospitality was second to none! Dave is the man! Had a great time hanging with him! Also ontop of all of that, the cottage is in a great location, only an amazingly beautiful 5 minute walk to the Kells Priory (which is a ruins from the 12th century) It is like having your own castle in your backyard to explore! Also only a short drive to Kilkenny, and if your really lucky you may catch one of your hosts putting on a great Irish Music Session in the local pubs! Thank you Jadzia and Dave for the wonderful memories!
I found out about this cottage completely by chance while planning a trip with my parents to Ireland. It seemed (email hidden) to stay and something "off the beaten path", but since my plans didn't really include that part of Ireland, I passed it by and continued making my original plans. However, somehow the image conjured up by the cottage kept coming back to me. I discussed this with my wife and she said "it doesn't make any sense to change your entire plans just to stay in one "enchanting" cottage". Even though this made total sense, I couldn't seem to get the idea of staying in the cottage out of my mind. Thus in the end, I changed around a good portion of my trip "just to stay in that cottage". Well, my gut instincts proved correct. The cottage and the whole atmosphere was indeed enchanting. And our hosts Jadzia and Dave, were extremely hospitable, friendly and outgoing in their desire to make you feel right at home...one of the family. And if someone likes "off the beaten" path then this is the perfect choice. Yet this doesn't mean there is nothing to do in the near area. There is plenty to do and this area gives you a feeling of the real Ireland...especially the priory and mill right down the road. My only regret is that 2 nights passed by rather quickly and we definitely could have stayed longer. I plan on returning someday soon with my wife and kids. This was truly a great experience.
Jadzia and Dave were the perfect hosts! We became instant friends and I cannot wait for them to visit us in California! As for the cottage? I cannot say enough good things about it...a 300 year old thatch roof cottage, within walking distance to the priory, town, pastures full of playful sheep, the mills and the river...we could not ask for anything more. But we got more...fresh eggs, butter and bread to greet us, and enough wood for several fires. Yes, this become home...thank you Jadzia and Dave!
Really wonderful place, and excellent hosts. Had a great time.
Dave had the fire already burning on our arrival, and Jadzia left us fresh eggs, milk and bread which set the scene for a wonderful 3 nights in this beautiful, cosy cottage. Kells is a small, picturesque village with the nearby Priory and Kilree round tower great places to explore. We can recommend Shirley's Pub for a hearty lunch. Jadzia and Dave were delightful hosts, ready to help and suggest places to see and things to do.
We only stayed 2 days which we thought would be plenty, but we unfortunately underestimated how hospitable Dave and Jadzia would be and how amazing Kells Village/Kilkenny is. The cottage is so welcoming and there is bound to be a return visit.
