Welcome to the other Kells, in the county of Kilkenny; our cottage is located opposite the King's river in the historical village of Kells. This lovingly restored thatch-roofed cottage is nestled in an area of great natural beauty and unique archaeological heritage. Originally built in the late 18th century by a local entrepreneurial family, the Mill Cottage was the Mullins family ancestral home. Today the charming cottage has been sympathetically refurbished and restored to recreate old world charm, with a modern twist. The house is surrounded by lovely gardens nurtured by the previous and present owners and resulting in a peaceful and visually stunning landscape.
The Mill Cottage has a warm and homely atmosphere from the moment you step inside. The accommodation offers two beautifully furnished and decorated bedrooms (one double, one twin), bathroom with waterfall shower, a large cosy living room with original open fireplace and wood burning stove, and a modern kitchen with all mod cons (electric oven & hob, microwave, fridge/freezer, etc.). A hall leads out to the gardens, with steps leading up to a small apple orchard from which are views of the surrounding countryside, mills, church spires and the nearby historic Augustinian Priory. Situated in an idyllic rural location, the Mill Cottage is for someone looking for something special and unique.
Camping within the gardens is available and great fun!!, You can email me for more information.
Kells is a beautiful rural Irish village surrounded by rolling fields leading down to the lively Kings River. With numerous historic buildings, the music and craic in local pubs, as well as local shops and other amenities, Kells is a pleasant place to take a break and relax as well as visiting nearby places of interest, such as Kilkenny, Thomastown, Graiguenamanagh and Inistioge. Walking in and around Kells village is peaceful and full of discoveries. A 12th century Augustinian Priory adjacent to the Mill Cottage is one the most magnificent medieval monuments in Ireland. Kilree, an old religious site with an impressive round tower, high cross and ancient church, is a pleasant 1.5km walk from the village centre. There are also a number of activity trails throughout the county and can be found by searching local websites.
Located just 13km from Thomastown and Kilkenny city, the Mill Cottage is within easy reach of amenities such as restaurants, pubs, shopping, and transport, including train stations in both Thomastown and Kilkenny city. The county also boasts outdoor activities such as golfing in the nearby Mount Juliet Hotel grounds, scenic fishing spots along Kings River and River Nore, and various other attractions (Kilkenny Castle, Black Abbey, Jerpoint Abbey and Dunmore Caves). The newly built motorway from Dublin is 3km from Kells Village which is ideal for traveling throughout the entire sunny southeast of Ireland.

Some of Ireland’s finest studio workshops are located in the scenic valley of the River Nore. The Craft Trail is perhaps the best way to sample each artist and their workshops, which are easily found in Kilkenny city, Bennettsbridge, Thomastown and Inistioge. Information on The Craft Trail is available at the cottage.

We are a laid back bunch so just appreciate that you treat our home as you would your own. Other than that no real restrictions but to enjoy!!
This place, and the hosts, are beyond amazing! Adorable small village within walking distance to pubs, and just ten minutes to larger Kilkenny. We can't wait to return and spend more time here!!!!
Welcomed by Dave, lovely place, warm once we got the fire stoked up & all you'd want for a weekend away.
We had a lovely time in Kells, Co. Kilkenny at Jadzia and Dave’s Mill Cottage. From the moment we arrived, Jadzia and Dave made us feel very welcome and gave us excellent information on things to do and places to see nearby. The cottage itself is beautiful and well furnished with amenities to make one feel right at home.
Jadzia and Dave are simply wonderful hosts. We arrived , cold and tired and hungry on a wet and windy evening, to find a beautiful, warm, mellow cottage, elegant, comfortable rooms, and a glowing stove.
Jadzia and Dave had thoughtfully provided us with fresh eggs, fruit, milk, all the trimmings. Books, CDs, Scrabble, games, maps: Jadzia is clearly an artist who creates beautiful, tranquil interiors , gorgeous gardens, and a sense of peace.
We had a wonderful weekend, and will definitely return.
This Mill Cottage lives up to and surpasses the descriptions. It is truly enchanting.
We stayed a week at the Mill Cottage and can only agree and second all the previous reviews. It seems naive to say that we truly felt a part of Irish culture in only a week, yet it's true. Dave and Jadzia's superlative hospitality, kindness and generosity were unparalleled and we count this as the most relaxing and restorative vacation we've ever taken. The first time you walk out the cottage door, feed the chickens, stroll along the river, pass the mill, walk over the stone bridge and arrive into the village for a pint at Shirley's, you'll understand what everyone is raving about.
As musicians, we especially appreciated Dave's generous introduction into the local music scene.
The location is excellent: 1.5 hours drive from Dublin, and we took several easy day trips, exploring the villages and towns in the region - always pleased, of course, to come home to our little cozy cottage by the priory. Be sure to spend a couple days really exploring Kilkenny.
I stayed at Dave and Jadzia's cottage for a couple of days with my parents and we absolutely loved it !! The cottage is beautifully decorated, and you'll find all you need in it, as well as a lovely fireplace ! Dave has welcomed us and made us fell at home, giving us lots of advice and information about the area, the restaurants, and the pubs with good traditional music. I'll definitely go back for a relaxing and peaceful experience !
Dave and Jadzia are the best hosts you will ever meet and have an amazing cottage, which I would not hesitate in recommending to people and we will definitely be returning on our next visit to Ireland. Nothing was too much trouble for Dave he is such a kind person and he instantly makes you feel welcome in his cottage and his beautiful village. From the chickens in the garden to the glorious Abbey across the road it was truly a magical stay in Ireland one we will never forget. Thanks for everything to 2 of the kindest people you will ever get to meet and thank you for our cd it is fantastic and we are still enjoying it as we drive the rest of our journey through Ireland. All the best to you both and we will definitely see you again.
Happy New Year.
