Some info has been automatically translated.
This cottage was built in a bygone era (1858) in Windwardside and features stunning views of the blue Caribbean, the misty top of spectacular Mt. Scenery, and the picturesque village below. Within 1-3 min you can walk to 2 grocery stores, 6 restaurants, 3 bars, the PO, a dive shop, 2 tourist shops, 2 churches, and a lovely park with museum.

All net income is donated to my charities. I've become more of a minimalist in my retirement, enjoying people over things. I charge no cleaning fee.

The space
The cottage has been on Airbnb for over 9 years and is rented as a two bedroom space that sleeps 4-6. The second bedroom is an attached but separate unit with its own two entrances. If a couple only needs the main bedroom, then a $50/day reduction in the total house price is automatically calculated into your price. Each bedroom has a queen bed and ensuite bath. There is a full length twin trundle bed couch for 1 or 2 kids or adults which can be added on to the full house price for guests 5 and 6.

There is nowhere like Saba. Getting there is a unique and exhilarating experience especially if you arrive by plane. Staying there is like remembering life before the 21st century...simple, super clean, fun, and very friendly. Currency is the US$ and power the same 110v. There is a bank of euro adapters for charging. The Saban version of English is spoken by everyone. The isle is politically a part of the Netherlands and about a third of the population is also fluent in Dutch. Spanish, German, French, and Tagalog are spoken to a lesser extent as well.

In 2022 an adjacent detached efficiency apartment, Peter Hytte, was built so three couples may stay at one time and socialize together in the main cottage if desired.

Guest access
You will have private use of the whole house, one or both bedrooms, gardens, rear patio, front porch/deck and a shared tandem parking pad that accommodates 4 vehicles. The laundry unit is for staff use only. Personal laundry services with pick up and drop off are available. There is a manager's closet used by the housekeeper and me. Rental cars are available directly below the cottage.

Other things to note
Please read our information book for important details concerning conservative water and power use as both are precious commodities on Saba. Paper cannot be thrown into the organo-septic pit system. This book also includes a pictorial history of the original renovation of the property by Beth and Janly who owned the property from 2006-2019. Returning guests will have been hosted by their staff in the past including Cece.

I'm a retired family doc who loves learning languages and traveling throughout Europe. I also operated a large B&B in Phoenix, Arizona, for 10 years after my retirement from practicing medicine in 2001. I enjoy meeting other hosts and learning about the local history and culture. I also host Althea Cottage and the adjacent Peter Hytte on Saba Island in the Dutch Caribbean where I live primarily. My former residence is at Lake Chapala, Mexico, where I often return for a summer vacation.
