About this listing
A newly redecorated private room with a bit of "boutique hotel" style yet all the amenities of a well-loved home. Come enjoy the bucolic charm of our sleepy, verdant little town just over the Golden Gate from the happy bustle of San Francisco...
Hello! I'd be happy for you to stay in my freshly decorated, light-filled, private guest room. There is a full kitchen just outside one of your doors that you are free to use. There is a spacious shared bathroom just outside your other door with a fab deep porcelain tub and rain shower head (and an empty drawer for guests). This home is the upper half of a 106-year-old duplex (that was built in 1909 by a ship's captain). I like to think of it as my sweet old tree house.
In your room you will find fresh linens on a super comfy full size bed with a feather mattress topper and down pillows, quirky vintage lighting, an array of artwork from friends/local artists, and cable tv (HBO/Showtime/etc). And Wifi, of course.
There is a lounger/day bed/seating area, access to a vintage record player with an eclectic selection of vintage vinyl at the ready, and a fan is provided should you need to cool down (and a dedicated space heater for the colder nights).
I provide coffee, tea, and bottled water and have set aside a drawer in the fridge for visitors. Feel free to use my vintage stove, Sparky... perhaps have your breakfast on the plant-filled screened porch!
The boss around here is Iggy. He is the happiest, most easy-going cat you could imagine. Maybe don't stay if you are terribly allergic because he will want to say hello (though you are welcome to keep your doors closed to cut down on visits).
The best park in town is just down the street if you want to stretch out on the grass with a blanket and have a picnic. There is a playground, public tennis courts, barbecues, grassy field and picnic tables for your use (bring your own racquets!). We are a 10 minute stroll to downtown Mill Valley.
There are wonderful shops (MINT, Summer House, the shops at Mill Valley Lumber Yard, etc) and awesome food/drinks (Mill Valley Beerworks, Sol Food, Tony Tutto, Pearl's, etcetera) and the newly opened Equator Coffee location just downtown. A bit further afield (and on the way to the city) you will find the highly recommended Proof Lab/Equator coffee in the Tam Junction section of Mill Valley (and great breakfasts at The Dipsea Cafe). We also have two (yes TWO) Whole Foods markets and the MOST wonderful Mill Valley Market nearby should you need them. There are great hiking trails, mountain biking, running trails, and yoga studios right here in town.
Some good things to know:
The house is 10 minutes to the Golden Gate Bridge, 12 minutes to Muir Woods, 20 minutes to Muir Beach and Stinson Beach, and 45 minutes to the lush wine country - it's a great launching spot for all of the activities that Northern California has to offer.
Always plenty of free street parking right outside the door if you are driving or renting a car for your stay (which is advised because there is SO MUCH to see).
I have been an airbnb user myself for six years and I like to think that translates well to being a good host :)
Full kitchen, shared bathroom - also a washer/dryer if staying five days or longer. The happiest little screened porch to hang out in for morning coffee, evening cocktails or to read a book. If you want to use the vintage turntable and lps, just ask! :)
Interaction with Guests
I am normally present and available to my guests. I am just as happy to hang out and share a chat as I am to take cues from guests and give them their privacy.
This sunny house has the best light and a view of the peak of Mt. Tam from your room (if the apple tree isn't full to bursting). You can often hear families playing and singing happy birthday at the park just down the street if your windows are open. Beautiful trails are right up the hill out the back door. Located only a 10 minute stroll from downtown Mill Valley and all it has to offer.
Cars/rental car makes the most sense if you opt to stay in Marin but the #4 bus stops just at the end of the street and can take you to downtown San Francisco. The Sausalito and Larkspur Ferry landings are a short drive - it is great fun to take a boat right into the city and the renowned Ferry Building.
Other Things to Note
The current cleaning fee is $25 per 5 days (or less) stay. Should you book a longer stay, I will ask another $25 for each additional block of five days or shorter portion thereof (expect fresh sheets, towels, dusting and vacuuming every five days included in this fee).
Unimportant but fun fact:
My home was featured on the Poppy Talk website and also the Apartment Therapy website several years ago :)
No smoking in/outside or drugs, please. This house is the upper half of a duplex - this is a family-friendly and fairly quiet neighborhood so please do your best not to be terribly loud late at night. Other than that, this is a happy and relaxed home.
From May 1 - Oct 11, 2015 the minimum stay is 2 nights.
Delightful is about the only word (well not the only word as this review will attest) to describe our experience. Leslie is a very gracious host and responsive to all our questions and texts as our arrival was a bit tenuous. And when we arrived she made us feel right at home. The room is spacious and the bed is very comfortable, lots of closet space and enough plugs to fit all of our electronic devices and the wifi worked like a champ. There was no air conditioning but the nights cooled the place down and there were plenty of fans so we were never uncomfortable. There is a TV in the room that worked great. The bathroom is large and the shower is terrific (I hate little drizzly showers). We had the run of the rest of the house, there was a drawer in the fridge for whatever we wanted to use it for and coffee ready for the making every morning.
Leslie is a great source of information for where to go in the area like places to go in San Francisco, which ferry to use, where to go in wine country and when places like Muir Woods would be likely to be less crowded. He cat Iggie (Iggy?) is very friendly and also served as an earthquake early warning system (it was a very small quake). There are deer in the yard sometimes and, surprisingly, no mosquitoes or flies.
The neighborhood is removed a little from downtown and very quiet. There is a park about a block away that we did not really take advantage of but it looked very nice. There was always plenty of parking right in front of or beside the house.
The next time we are in the area we will not hesitate to contact her to see if her place is available, we may even schedule our trip around her availability. We had a wonderful time.
Beautiful place to land after a long day of travel! I felt the warmth and welcome as I walked up the stairs. Leslie is a lovely host. The room was so comfortable and the location was ideal. Look forward to staying again in the near future.
I thoroughly enjoyed staying at Leslie's beautiful home. It was quiet, clean and comfortable as well as an ideal location for my outdoor travel plans (Muir Beach, Green Gulch and Spirit Rock). Downtown Mill Valley is great - fab coffee, bookstore and restaurants. Leslie is welcoming, warm and was flexible. She was also very helpful in sorting out some of my travel logistics. It was a pleasure to stay in her home.
I fell in love with Leslie's home the moment I reached the top of the stairs and laid eyes on the adorable screened porch. And it only got better as I made my way in to the house and to my room. The space is funky and cool, clean, organized and totally charming. The bed was super comfortable, and the morning coffee was delicious. The location is very nice. Mill Valley is a sweet little town, and commuting across the bridge to the city is fairly quick ( if you avoid rush hour, obviously). Leslie herself is the perfect host. She's available to chat if that's your thing, but gives you space if you're the more reserved type. Highly recommend!
I stayed in Leslies very nice and cozy apartment for 5 days. Leslie made me feel at home right away and offered lots of great suggestions for restaurants and places to. Having lived in Mill Valley for 14 years she knows the area very well. The room was nice and very clean, as was the kitchen and bathroom. Iggy the cat is super friendly and welcomes any attention he can get. The area is great for exploring Mill Valley, walking distance to downtown and 5 minutes to the highway. While I stayed there we also saw a buck in the garden, eating apples and leaves, a true Mill Valley experience.
Leslie was an awesome host, a cheerful conversationalist, and very welcoming. The house and room were very much as described, very relaxed and welcoming.
What a LOVELY few days. Gorgeous, room, great home, delightful neighborhood, and fabulous host.
Room and house were immaculate, interiors were awesome, and the cat was an absolute cutie.
Will happily return. Thanks, Leslie!!!
