About this listing
This old country house was built in 1915, it has been remodeled through the years. Our remodel includes this efficiency apt for your bnb get-away.
Private Bedroom with double bed, bath & shower, semi-private living space & kitchenette.
This 21 acre property is located just 5 miles from the center of Asheville and only 2 miles from Haywood Rd. in West Asheville. We're 1 mile outside the city limit.
Our unpretentious neighborhood and rural feeling gives you the best of both worlds- quiet nights and lots to do and see both in Asheville and in the surrounding mountain and river ecosystems.
The house was homeowner-built before there were inspectors for such endeavors. However, it is safe, comfortable and clean.
The best part is that it is SPRING water supplying all our H2O needs! The efficiency apartment is our own home-owner addition, and includes a bathroom with a shower and an innovative toilet, and a kitchenette. The private bedroom has a lockable door, double bed and a fresh coat of paint.
I have been a host for Airbnb for over four years, and in this time frame I've booked more than 400 bookings and have earned more than 150 5- star reviews.
The common room with the living/dining/kitchen/bathroom areas are semi-private as there will be times during the day when we need to pass through from the back door to our side of the house, generally we try to wait until you're up and out. At night we close the doors, pull the blinds and make it a private space for you. However, your bedroom is completely private at all times.
As our guest you will enjoy access to explore the 21 acres as you desire, have a fire in the fire circle at night (you might have to gather wood on the property for this), sit down by the bubbling brook and read a book or take a nap. The possibilities depend on your creative mind. We have no TV but do have wifi available to you.
Interaction with Guests
We love to meet our guests. As long time (4 years) hosts of airbnb guests, we've experienced all sorts of folks and are excited to be offering this service once again in our new (old) home in NC. Guests can have privacy with separate entrance and a lockable bedroom door, and interact with us as much (within reason!) or as little as they choose.
We still have airbnb spaces in Savannah GA- check out the listing for Digs on Duffy, and Never Blue if you'd like.
This is as rural as it gets within 5 miles of downtown. The closer you get to our place, the more spread out the houses get. It's quiet day and night, with very light traffic on the road leading in. Beautiful mountain vistas can be seen along the way if you take certain routes we can tell you about.
City bus stop is one mile away, downhill most of the way there! Once in town- you'll want to be on foot with easy walking and lots to see along the way between points of interest.
Leaving the driveway can be a bit daunting as it seems to be a blind drive. I've found that rolling down the windows and listening is the best indicator of oncoming traffic. That method has worked every time, and it's not a very busy road either.
Other Things to Note
We are a couple of permaculture designers, implementing sustainable principles of this design system as we settle into living on this land.
Our remodeled apartment has been done with mostly recycled, salvaged and some limited quantity of new materials. The finish work is done with non-toxic milk paints and some no-VOC latex, recycled grocery bag wall paper, with tung oil and carnuba wax for the wood work.
Eventually we plan to have tree houses and alternative structures built with indigenous materials, workshops and retreat events...stay tuned!
Check in after 3:00, check out by 11:00 (flexible depending on circumstances)
Please respect the privacy and comfort of others under the same roof (in effect, it is a duplex of sorts).
Quiet hours are from 9pm-8am which is honored by both sides of the house.
If you have a pet (pet fee $20) please keep it off the furniture, kenneled if left in the house alone, and leashed when outside to protect the free-ranging farm birds.
Looking back from the trail going to the forest don't let the dilapidated barn throw you off- we have lots of work left to do on the place, but the house is ready for occupancy!
A friend and I spent the night over the July 4th weekend, and we had an excellent experience! Kelly's farm is not too far away from downtown to be inconvenient, but far enough away to feel like you've left the city. This was very welcome considering how crowded downtown was that weekend! Kelly was very friendly, and our accommodations were were clean, homey, and comfortable. We would definitely stay again!
Kelly was a kind and gracious host. She is very welcoming to the apartment and the property. I was expecting more privacy, as I had been searching airbnb only for "entire place". And in my haste, I didn't read all of the details of the profile in which Kelly does say the unit is attached to the main house and they will be utilizing the apartment as a walk through during your stay.
Kelly gave us farm fresh eggs which together with leftovers made a great breakfast in the kitchenette. However, even though we cleaned up after ourselves, on Day 2 the wall of the kitchen was covered in tiny sugar ants, so we decided to opt to eat out. Living in Florida, I know the battle with ants in old homes is an uphill battle.
I was traveling with my mother who has a little trouble getting around. As such, the fact the backstairs didn't have a handrail and wobbled a bit was an issue.
While the review mentions a key for the bedroom, the key has been lost, so there was no lock on the accommodations at all.
Overall, I love Asheville and this was a nice place to stay for the flexible traveler.
Kelly and Tree were great hosts. They have a beautiful farm and a nice rustic apartment. I particularly appreciated their suggestions for outdoor activities in the area.
Cedar Springs Farm was an excellent place to stay just outside of West Asheville. Kelly did a wonderful job making us feel welcome to her place from prior to arrival up to check-out, providing clear directions on how to get there and what to expect during our stay. The farm was lovely, with all sorts of animals to watch and beautiful scenery to enjoy. A private room with a semi-private living space/kitchen/bathroom was provided; all suited just fine for a weekend trip. Kelly and Tree were excellent hosts - extremely friendly and welcoming to the area. Kelly also provided excellent restaurant recommendations. Could not have asked for a better experience! The location was great for getting around West Asheville (5-10 minutes to restaurants, bars, etc) and still not far from downtown Asheville (20-25 min) for other entertainment. Overall, this location is an excellent choice if you're looking for a quiet down-home place to stay, while not being far from city life.
Utterly charming plot, Kelly was totally accommodating, easy going and knowledgeable - she gave us great tips for exploring West Asheville (and a tasty light breakfast in the AM!) You can walk around her beautiful land and check out some guinea foul. We were thrilled for this opportunity to stay here and super grateful -- highly recommended!
