We found Lisa's place a perfect location while doing some hiking in western Maine. It was great to have a true home base. Our room was generous and comfortable and breakfast was very nice. Great views from Lisa's perch and a very nice pastoral setting. Highly recommend the homemade granola before a day of hiking! Lisa had lots of local knowledge and info to share and made a great host.
Our stay at this Western Maine B&B was peaceful and calm. Lisa's place is an easy drive to Sugarloaf Resort and to many access points of the Maine Huts & Trails system. There are a few restaurants up the road as well as very basic amenities. Other than that, there is not very much in the area, but that is also part of the beauty of it.
Being from North Carolina, we are used to the B&Bs here that are often more luxurious and have larger gourmet breakfasts. There was absolutely nothing fancy about this place, but we were comfortable. Likewise, although the breakfast is not fancy, it was wholesome, punctual, and delicious.
Lisa's B&B feels like a small farm, so it would not be an ideal place for someone who does not like to be around animals. The dogs and chickens are certainly a part of the family's life there. The shower was not nearly tall enough for my 5'10" frame, but (like everything else there), it served the purpose just fine. This is very much a no-frills place.
Lisa's property is quite beautiful. The view of the Western Maine mountains is lovely. There are beautiful farm buildings on her property, lovely plantings, well-manicured grassy areas, and tons of room to roam. There is a little trail that runs around part of her property that is good for exploring. Our kids (ages 7&12) were with us and they loved roaming around the yard with the chickens and geese, playing with the dogs, exploring the property, climbing on rocks, learning about bee-keeping, and helping in the garden.
Lisa is good and prompt with communications and she was helpful in recommending sightseeing and advising us on how to get from place to place. My kids really fell in love with her and kept commenting on how nice and sweet she is.
