My wife and I will always remember the kindness of Carol, Rachids (there are two!) and Rachida (who prepared one of the best meals we had while in Marrakech).

Short story: I can gladly say that my group has fallen completely in love with Marrakech. Riad Merstane is located within the walls of the Medina, a short walk from everything but far enough from the noise of the souks and main square to be peaceful and calm. Everyone at the riad was immensely helpful with anything we needed and more. We entered Morocco with high hopes and had our expectations blown away. It was amazing. We will be back, but in the meantime we will recommend Riad Merstane to everyone we know. Long story: Before arriving Carol had been in contact with me to smooth out details and arrange a taxi from the airport. My group (3 of us in total) flew into the airport with wide eyes and very rudimentary French and were met at the entrance by Omar, who is a fantastic driver. (You'll want to be reassured by a calm driver in Marrakech, trust me!) We were all immediately overwhelmed and yet excited by all the activity. We had never seen anything like it! Since it was our first time in Morocco, we were very glad to be in the experienced hands of Carol, Omar, Rachid, Rachid, and Rashida. The first Rachid met us exactly where Omar dropped us off within the walls of the Medina (thank goodness, or we would have been lost!) Rachid walked us a couple minutes to the Riad, expertly pointing out markers for us to make our way in the narrow cobblestone streets. He is a wealth of knowledge and can recommend worthwhile cafes, activities, and souks. He even drew a map by hand and described everything in great detail for us newbies. He gave us his contact details and always answered very quickly when we sent him messages. The riad itself is beautiful! The pictures are lovely but do the actual building no justice. It seems to us now that most everything in Marrakech is beautiful. We were greeted with mint tea, snacks, and a tour of our temporary home, complete with a beautiful rooftop terrace. Our rooms were everything we needed, cool and comfortable and with plenty of storage. We loved lounging on the terrace day and night while resting away from the commotion in the souks and square. When we returned from our first venture out, Rachid 2 was the manager on duty. He is also incredibly helpful and kind. He sat with us and answered all the questions we had about a variety matters, ranging from Moroccan culture to where we could find a pharmacy as my husband became ill while there. (The pharmacist was also amazing and friendly!) The next day we met Rashida who took care of us beautifully! She had an amazing breakfast spread for us each day and even picked up our clothes which we forgot to pick up in our rush to get out! Carol was also around every day to greet us and help us out. Everyone we met and actually...

Nice riad. Definitely way off the beaten path. 20-30 minute walk from the central area. It is very very hidden. Must go through many winding streets and alleyways to find this location. Can be VERY difficult the first few times so pay attention to any and all landmarks. Beware of the children, they will offer to help you find the riad then demand money (whether or not they helped you) and no matter what you give them, it will not be considered enough. Our room could have been a bit cleaner, particularly the towels. Our door also did not lock properly but a padlock is provided. Staff is EXTREMELY friendly and helpful. Quick to be there whenever needed. They would gladly make any calls for reservations for us. Be sure to set aside cash for the occupancy tax ahead of time so as not to be caught off guard in the end. Factor this cost into your budget as well as any taxis to/from center square. Beautiful courtyard, great rooftop, kind staff. Just be prepared to exercise your navigation skills.

Response from Carol:
Thank a lot for your message and your stay at the Riad. About the location of the riad our guests choose our neighborhood for its typical and traditional character away from the madness of the souks. We are sorry if you could see a rodent the riad is regularly treated by a specialized company. Lastly, concerning tourist taxes, please note that we are only collectors of the municipal tax and that all the establishments in Morocco must charge it, as indicated in our general conditions on the website. We remain at your disposal and will be delighted to see you soon

We had a great time staying here and it was a great base from which to explore Marrakech. The room and Riad were beautiful and kept spotlessly clean. Rachid was a great host and did all he could to make our stay as enjoyable as possible. He was extremely kind and helpful.

Hi - we're Ben and Carol Raimbault and fell in love with Marrakech many years ago when we bought and restored our beautiful riad. We enjoy helping other people to experience exotic Marrakech with it's hidden riads, winding lanes and warm and welcoming people and we especially love the mix of traditional and contemporary in the city.

Our staff also love to share their city with guests and nothing is too much troub le for them.

Come and experience this fascinating city and culture for yourselves
