This apartment is located in Lapa - Rio’s bohemian historic centre, 1 block from Cruz Vermelha Square. Only a 5-10 minute walk from where Rio’s best nightlife and cultural scene is; Samba clubs, theatres, museums, churches, cinemas, restaurants, old historical houses converted into trendy antique stores, funky bars & cafes and of course the famous Lapa Arches!
If you want to be in the middle of everything, but still somewhere safe, this is the place to be! Just down the hill from Santa Teresa and only 10-15 minute walk from Cinelandia or Carioca metro stations. This means that you can arrive to Copacabana or Ipanema beach in less than half an hour.
It’s also just a couple of blocks from Rua Riachuelo where all the buses pass by and there's a huge supermarket and every other type of shop you'd ever want! Banks, restaurants, clothes shops, beauty salons.... Convenient for everything.
Just a short jump across the square to the Saturday open-air flower & fruit market and a few blocks down to Rua Lavradio - site of the Lapa Antique Fair - where you can sit at corner pubs, sip on cold beer and listen to live samba music on the street!
The apartment itself is part of a large residential apartment building with 24 hour security (porters at the door). It's located on the 2nd floor and has a lovely view over the tree-lined street below. It is fully equipped with a double queen-sized bed and a sofa-cama, ceiling fan, bathroom with hot/cold shower, clothes-washing and drying area, large flat-screen television, kitchenette with filtered drinking water, fridge, mini stove, toaster, omelet maker etc.
UPDATE: Faster and better Internet WIFI recently installed! FULLY FUNCTIONING!

Interaction with Guests
My brother-in-law Andrew manages the apartment for me. He speaks English and Portuguese. Andrew is always contactable by phone, email or WhatsApp to help guests and answer any questions they might have. He lives in Lapa just down the road from the apartment so he knows the area well and will be happy to show guests around and give extra tips and recommendations if requested!
5 minutes walk from the heart of Lapa and 10 minutes walk from Carioca/ Cinelandia, this a fantastic area to be based in Rio. It's very safe (as it's a residential pocket of Centro so it's buzzing every day of the week) and you have all different types of bars, clubs, cafes and restaurants at your door-step! As well as loads of shops, markets, banks, salons, supermarkets, parks and even beaches (Flamengo) within easy walking distance. You get all different type of people living in this area: students, professionals, families, couples, Brazilian, Foreigners... you names it! It's a very up-and-coming part of Rio. Come see it for yourself!
Extremely convenient to ALL public transport: 5 mins walk to every different bus stop, 10 mins walk to the closest metro station (taking you to Copacabana or Ipanema in less than 15 mins), 10 minutes walk to Central Train Station and only 15 minutes walk to the Sambodromo itself! It's also within short walking distance of: Uruguaiana markets, Carioca, Cinelandia, Praça XV (and the ferries to Niteroi), Santos Dumont Airport, Lapa, Santa Teresa, Gloria, Flamengo and Catete! In fact you can walk to so many different parts of Rio that you'll hardly ever even need to get the bus or metro anywhere ;-)
I don't have many rules. I just ask that you look after the apartment and my belongings and keep the apartment as clean as possible. Its important to take your garbage out every day. The garbage shoot is by the stairs. You must put all your garbage down this shoot (don't leave it on the floor next to the shoot). This is a residential building with 24 hour porter security. Everyone in the building is very friendly, so I also just ask that you are friendly and respectful in return to the porters and residents! Thank you!!
Also, please let us know if you have any problems, or if anything has been damaged or broken. We will always do our best to fix the situation as soon as possible!
Great little apartment, spacious for two people and just ten mins walk from the arches of Lapa. Jane was a great host pm very helpful. We stayed for carnaval and had the best time!
This was by far the worse place I have ever stayed at on airbnb. There were cockroaches in my bed, as well as the bathroom. It was over 90 degrees at night and impossible to sleep. There was no air conditioning and the fans barely worked. The location is terrible in one of the worst and dangerous neighborhoods in Rio. More dangerous then most favelas to be honest. My friend got robbed by a beggar with a knife right outside the apartment. Don't stay here it is one of the worst apartments and worst locations in Rio. It almost ruined my trip it was so bad and uncomfortable. There were cockroaches in the bed ! I even had to ask for a refund.
This American guy, Alex, is the first person to have complained about my apartment for as long as I can remember. I'm really sad to read his comments... He obviously didn't research very well before he booked. He seems to have somehow mistaken my apartment for a luxury air-conditioned apartment in Leblon or Barra (which of course would have been twice or three times the price!). He reported to me that he saw 1 cockroach on the bed, which shocked me I have to admit, as this has never happened before. We get the odd little cockroach just like anywhere in Rio, but we get the apartment fumigated regularly. We will of course have it fumigated again now immediately, but I know for a fact that my apartment has very few cockroaches compared to many others. It's kept very clean. And the ceiling fan works just fine by the way! Alex told me that the fan wasn't working well so we went out and bought a new fan for the apartment, then realised that he had it on the 'exhaust' setting (turning the wrong way). So we switched it back to normal and it works perfectly. Now we have 2 fans for the apartment, haha, plus a lovely cross-breeze that comes in through the windows. It's one of the coolest non-air conditioned apartments in Rio! Alex was staying there in the middle of summer at the hottest time, but I never advertised that I had air-con so I don't know why he would think that I would have it? As for the location, it's a BRILLIANT location! 10 minutes walk to the Lapa Arches in a popular little residential pocket of Centro. It's a really well-respected area, sought after by many locals as one of the most convenient places to live. It IS considered a safe part of Centro to live. There is crime in all of Rio but I can honestly say that this is the very first time that I've ever heard of anyone being robbed outside my apartment block. I feel just as safe walking around my suburb than anywhere else in Rio. There are far less assaults here than in Copacabana! Lapa has a fair few assaults but my apartment is away from this part of Lapa. Anyway, I'm sorry that you had such a bad experience in Rio, Alex. Please do a bit more research about which area you want to stay in next time. My apartment is for people on a budget wanting a nice little apartment to stay near all the action of Lapa and convenient to shops, restaurants, bars, public transport etc. It is what it is. You just have to read all the other reviews below to know that everyone else loves this apartment and location and has a great time staying here!
The apartment of Jane is a really nice private space.. With a great fish restaurant just downstairs, and in a super area LAPA! Her brother in law received us really nicely and told many things about the city. It is a simple apartment, but if you want to party in Lapa it is perfect.
Great Value & Location....10 Minute walk to heart of Lapa and Central/Cinelandia Metro (email hidden)ross the Street from several Stores and Restaurants....Apartment has all the necessary amenities....Prompt Response from Hosts....Smooth Check In & Check Out....
We were very warm welcomed at the adres. We even got extra toilet equipment after we arrived and the host was available for advice about the city. The place is nearby Lapa, were the magic happens at night. Thanks for the hospitality!
I never met Jane, but did meet her brother-in-law Andrew. Great guy, he gave me a tour of the area when I met him for the keys and had responses to all my questions. Jane was very friendly and had quick responses. She gave me a listing of places to eat and things to do in the area. Like a mini tour through messaging. The apartment was exactly as presented in the photos. Amazing location and all around great stay. 10 min walk to the metro and the next street had all the buses that passed by. The shopping district of Saara was also a 10 min walk. Safe area; however, noisy. Great stay and will surely head back there in the near future.
