Abbeysgate is located 16 miles from downtown State College, Pa - home to a major research university. Our property - 14 acres in all, is beautifully landscaped and provides fantastic views of the Allegheny Front. The one story Craftsman home was architecturally designed to take advantage of the view and bring the outside in. We take pride in offering guests fantastic food - most of it fresh from our garden and prepared by two seasoned chefs. Our area is well known for its access to biking, hiking, fly fishing - not to mention various cultural, sports and community activities endemic to the dynamic environment of a university town. We take pride in the service we provide our guests and always surprise. We have access to internet and cable TV. Parking is within 30 feet of the front door. This bedroom is on the first floor and furnished with a double bed and has a private bathroom in the hallway. Windows flank the west wall providing a scenic view of the Allegheny Front. Abbeysgate family members are warm, hospitable, discreet and willing to assist our guests in any way.
Guests can sit or walk outside, weather permitting, in any of the areas surrounding the property. Guests are welcome to avail themselves of inside sitting areas to relax and chat.
Interaction with Guests
We value our guests' privacy so we tend to be unobtrusive but we are happy to engage, share information and history about the area or just conversation if so desired.
Some of our friends call our place Gatescuny because our views are reminiscent of Tuscany (and we live in Gatesburg). We are located in an agrarian neighborhood, rolling hills, lots of wildlife, incredible sunsets.
We are 20 minutes from the hub bub of downtown State College and the drive to and fro is nearly traffic-less!
Other Things to Note
We both love good food and good company and go out of our way to make our guests feel at home. We have a large, organic garden where much of your food will come from.
No Smoking. No Pets. Call ahead if children under 10 years old.
Our experience was wonderful at Abbeysgate. Upon our very late midnight arrival ( feeling bad) we were greeted with a warm welcome from Kevin. He made us feel very at home. The bedroom we stayed in and their home is not only beautiful, clean, and a lovely property, but it reflects the warmth of Georgia & Kevin (the hosts). Thank you for the little details of water, nuts, apples, and chocolates in our room. These little "healthy" details were so nice & appreciated. In the morning we had a wonderful time with the other house guests, eating wonderful food & drinking great coffee, and enjoyed spending time getting to know Georgia & Kevin. We will be back! Thank You.
Georgia is a terrific host. I can't say enough about the warm welcome and hospitality all the way through my (too short) stay at Abbeysgate. The house is inviting and quiet yet an easy drive to State College. It's also a beautiful area for cycling. I only wish I'd discovered it when my daughter was a freshman instead of a senior!
This was a great place to stay, clean, comfortable, great views. The breakfasts that Georgia made were very good. Would definitely stay here if in the area again and highly recommend to others. Beautiful area and not to far from town.

Georgia and Kevin Abbey have lived in Central Pennsylvania since 1984. They love living surrounded by the scenic Alleghenies and the mountain valleys and streams. Kevin is the land conservation manager for the local conservancy. Georgia is the executive director of a non profit. They spend spring and early summer weekends readying the gardens. They love to spend time with their grandkids who live nearby. Originally from Michigan, they still go back every year to get their "water" fix. They have traveled extensively, most recently - Spain. They routinely visit Utah to hike in and near Zion.
