I spent good time in Kogie house;
I had a wide room;
It is a clean and quiet place well located in Durban.
This is the right place, if you like to meet people - Kogie is connected. I also enjoyed to meet a part of Kogie's family. They produce an athmosphere which made me feel welcome.
Date of Stay: 28 Nov-8 Dec 2011.
Kogie has been one of the best hosts I ever had and I have had so many hosts over the years for traveling all over the world. Kogie is so warm, hospitable and generous. I felt as if I was coming home to a family. I don’t remember seeing “breakfast included” in her posting but she made sure I have a warm hearty breakfast before I go out to attend the COP17 Climate Change Conference in downtown Durban. She and her friends even gave me and a couple of other COP17 attendees a welcome party on my first night. And she was just warming up! A few days later, she and her friends gave another dinner party, this time asking me to invite some of my COP17 colleagues to the party. The food they served was simply lekker (delicious in Afrikaan). Hospitality at its best! South Africans can be a lot of things (good and bad) but being super friendly and hospitalitable are some of them. And no, there was no charge in both parties. These parties were simply out of pure generosity and hospitality on the part of Kogie and her friends. I think Kogie and her friends just love to have a party and any excuse to have one, they will do it! :-) Seriously, I think they all like to meet new people from all over the world.
Now about the place. Kogie’s place is located very close to Durban CBD. Maybe less the 2km. It was perfect for me since COP17 was downtown. (Kogie even checked if there was a COP17 shuttle that goes near her place for me!) It’s about 5-8 min walk to Florida road, which I think is THE place to be in Durban in terms of good selection of restaurants, shops, pubs, and bars. Florida Rd is a very lively street. Kogie’s place is very clean and the rooms are well maintained. It’s almost like a hotel where rooms are cleaned and beds are made every day. Added benefit is that Kogie operates a wellness centre (massage, reflexology, aroma theraphy, etc) that her guests can avail for a fee (didn’t get a chance to do this since I was busy with conference), specially after a day of touring around Durban.
I don’t know what one negative review here is all about. All I can say, if you are a demanding diva and unreasonable, maybe you should be prepared to have lots of money to stay in a 5 star hotels!
I highly recommend Kogie’s place if you want to experience comfort, safety, warmth and a feeling of being taken care of like a family, then stay with Kogie when you are in Durban.
Hospitable people, however, having a room opposite a common bathroom used by a few, the disturbance during the night was not pleasant. The room has no air conditioning or fans. Windows have to be opened, and mosquitos abound! Transport from and to the airport R500 per trip!!
All and all. I would most certainly not recommend this facility. Sorry!
Fantastic place we (email hidden) - extremely welcoming host and great facilities - we will always remember the bunnys we had for our lunch! Thank you
