Interaction with Guests
We interact with our guests as much as they want to interact with us. We generally stay out of the way but are more than happy to spend time with our guests in or out of the house.
The Faubourg Marigny is an authentic, historic neighborhood with great food, music, and beautiful architecture. It was New Orleans' second suburb, developed in 1806.
Immediately downriver (East) of the French Quarter, the Marigny was once the plantation of a Creole born vivant who made the dice game “craps” popular in America and who dazzled New Orleans by his flair and enormous inheritance. After subdividing the property in 1806, it developed gradually with a distinctly European flair and a cosmopolitan mix.
Today’s Marigny is still cosmopolitan, a singles friendly and artist-friendly neighborhood where people from all over the world have chosen to make their home. Beautiful Creole and Classic Revival cottages that stood abandoned after residents left for the suburbs in the 1950s have been restored and painted in rich golds, brick reds and moss greens.
Historic banks, corner stores and even bakeries have been refurbished as homes and guesthouses, while riverfront warehouses now accommodate artists' studios and performance spaces.
Weekends bring shoppers to independent galleries and rummage stores in lower Marigny while the restaurants and jazz clubs of the Marigny Triangle draw people from everywhere. Just across Esplanade Ave, near Frenchmen Street this musical enclave is an experience you will not find anywhere else in the city.
It is 20 minute drive without traffic and costs around $35 for a cab (up to 2 people) from the airport. There is free street parking in front of our house. Most places are walking distance but bikes are nice to have as well. There are many bike rental places nearby that we can direct you to.

Jen was a really laid back and helpful host who made us feel welcome immediately. The listing is spot on accurate. The location of the listing was prime. It was right next to a small but tasty coffee shop and was within walking distance of everything, even the opposite side of the French Quarter in steaming hot August. We enjoyed our stay and loved having somewhere cool to nap during the hottest part of the day. I would definitely stay here again in a heartbeat.
The Snail House was exactly what we needed: amazing location (particularly appreciated its proximity to Cake Cafe in the mornings), cool and comfortable in the August heat, and full of friendly and interesting (while quiet and respectful) people. The Gold Room combines the perks of a private bathroom with access to the shared areas of the house. We didn't meet Jen, but she was very easy to communicate with and Ryan was a great host.
One thing worth noting: the bed is super soft. I'm sure many people will appreciate this -- I'm just someone who needs a firm bed to get a good night's sleep. But that was a small caveat to an otherwise stellar rental.
Had a great stay at Jen's place ! Ryan her roommate has welcomed us and was kind! Everything was well arranged and our room was great! Would definitely stay there again. Thank you so much for hosting us!
We had a great time at Jen's place. She was on holidays when we arrived but she took care to have one of her friends contact us to let us know that he would be the one welcoming us. Ryan was thus really nice and made us feel very comfortable.
We enjoy the privacy of the room with the bathroom.
There are several people living in the house who are really welcoming, quiet but willing to help you or give you advice if you need to.
Also the house is really close to the French quarter (about 15 min walk and $10 for a taxi if you need to take one) and even closer to the Frenchmen street. It is also right next to a very nice coffee shop and the neighbourhood is really pleasant.
We will stay there again if we visit New Orleans in future.
Just off the beaten-path of the French Quarter. Great location if you are into live music (it's just a few blocks from Frenchman). I stayed here in the middle of July and was really happy with how nice and cool the apartment was. Kudos.
JEN WAS AWESOME! This place was frickin' perfect. Seriously, 5 min walk from Frenchman, absolutely amazing space, SUPER COMFY BED and awesome people. I CANT WAIT TO STAY HERE AGAIN!
The accommodation was exactly as described, maybe even better! Jen was very accommodating with our constantly changing itinerary. The location simply cannot be beat-steps to the French Quarter but still in a quiet neighborhood. Most highly recommended!

About the Host, Jen
I am not a native New Orleanian but feel as though I should have been. I was born and raised in the Bay Area, CA and went to school in Austin, TX, but as soon as came to New Orleans a few years back I wished I had discovered it sooner. The welcoming vibe of the amazing people that reside in this magical city has made it feel like home and I hope to share that with all guests of the Snail House.
The house has had many people come and go and I am so fortunate and grateful to have the opportunity to operate it at this point in time. Artists, writers, musicians, and all kinds of creative people have inhabited the Snail House at some point or another, and hopefully there will be many more in the days to come.
Staying at the Snail House is a one of a kind experience. The house chooses who it brings to the door.
