We loved staying at Casa Solipaz and it was everything we'd hoped it would be and more. The A/C in each room works well and the kitchen is well stocked for cooking at home. The home is surrounded by countless patios, nooks and crannies to lose yourself in the view with your sweetie. The home is very convenient to both Cobano and Montezuma (10 minutes from each). As a result, Tambor (30 minutes) and Santa Theresa (40 minutes) are just a little further in each direction. The pool is gorgeous! It isn't convenient to walk to the beach from here (as far as I could tell), though you can see the Pacific Ocean from the balconies. We want to stay here next year, too!
The roads aren't very good on the peninsula (mostly gravel and dirt) so I highly recommend a 4x4. We didn't have one, but we made it work. The road that leads to the house was particularly tough on our little car. We weren't able to pull up all the way in the garage. We parked at the bottom and walked up. Our friends had a car that was a bit heavier and they were able to make it into the garage. As we were leaving, they were making improvements to this road, though, so it might be better already.
To reach this house, it's best to fly into SJO. You take the new road (27) toward Puntarenas and you have to take the ferry (just a few a day) to Paquera. Once you arrive to Cobano, you take a left toward Montezuma. After the road becomes gravel, you're nearly there. Navigating the ferry system and schedule can be tricky if you don't speak Spanish, but it's definitely doable.
Kathy was very prompt in her responses to our questions and made us feel very welcome.
Thank you, Joseph, for your kind review!
I am so happy you enjoyed the pool, the patios, the kitchen, and the views. Casa Solipaz is indeed centrally located between several wonderful little towns, good for surfing, dining, zipping, etc.
Great to hear that you want to come back again next year - we'd love to host you again.
Your are so right about the 4x4; the roads on the peninsula are not great. I think they don't pave the roads on purpose, as a way of keeping the area less developed. But it is much easier to navigate our hill with one! I am sorry; we must have neglected to tell you that. But some of the best places are a bit of a challenge to access and this is one of the things we love about our house, the remoteness.
And thank you for pointing out that we should let guests know when cleaners and other workers will be arriving. I apologize for any embarrassment that may have caused.
My husband, Kevin, and I first visited Costa Rica in 2008 and were immediately enchanted by the lovely people, slower lifestyle, incredible climate and wonderful food. From the start, we felt comfortable here. So after a few more visits, we decided to look for a piece of land on which to build Casa Solipaz (House of Sun and Peace). Standing atop our hill in Armonia Eco-Village, we were awed by the incredible ocean and jungle views as well as the constant, cooling breezes. I was also impressed with Armonia's focus on protecting the environment; the small community has been carefully constructed with the least possible intrusion on the jungle and its many denizens. We knew this would be the site of our second home, one we would like to share with others when we cannot be in residence. Please enjoy the home's tranquility, as well as the area's many fun, exciting attractions! Pura Vida!
