The Space

Stay in a private 6.5 Japanese tatami room with a shared bathroom in a spacious 60 square meter house in Shiinamachi. This charming neighborhood preserves an aura of the shitamachi areas of old Tokyo. The area is quiet, completely residential without any high rises although in just 15 minutes you can be in the one of the biggest centers of Tokyo. The house is well situated in between several train stations: Shiinamachi on the Seibu-Ikebukuro line; Ochiai-Minami-Nagasaki on the Oedo line and its only at a 10 minute bike ride from both Ikebukuro and Mejiro on the Yamanote line. To Shibuya or Shinjuku it is 30 minutes from door to door. It is also a house that moves swiftly when earthquakes (this is something to consider in Tokyo especially this last year).

Other features:
Wi-fi available, supermarket, restaurants and convenient stores at walking distance.
7 minute walk from nearest station which connects in 2 minutes to the Yamanote line.
Room sleeps up to two people comfortably in futons.
Long term stay also possible at a negotiable price.
During certain times of the year the whole house is available.
Laundry machine but no dryer.

  • While Irene was out of town during our stay, her roommate Laetitia was incredible. The directions to the apartment were thoughtful and easy to follow, and the neighborhood is a great way to see the non-touristy way of life in Tokyo. Both for myself and the person I traveled with, the location of our homestay was a favorite part of the trip.

  • Hello,
The flat, room and surroundings were exactly as described. It is in a middle of a very residential quiet area a bit out of the Tokyo craziness, you'll feel very much at home after a day of walking and visiting. There are many small japanese restaurants all around the close metro station. Somehow it makes you feel like a village even if you are still in Tokyo. I highly recommand this place since it is also very convenient to access Tokyo metro to visit any part of the city.
Irene was not here, only her flatmate Leatitia was there. There was no issue at all, all went fine!

  • Irene's place is nice and cozy. The place is a little hard to find for foreigners, but Irene will provide you with enough details beforehand.

  • Stayed at Irene's place for 3 nights and a very pleasant time. The place is not so easy to find but is conveniently located near Ikebukuro. The area is quiet and the apartment is clean.

Irene is a great host and was always available for help and advice. I really recommend the place for holidays in Tokyo.

  • This house is really great. It is spacious, the atmosphere is calm and warm. Irene was not here, but there was her French room-mate which is kind and friendly. I am also French so talking to her was pleasant. I could talk to Irene via email: she is a comprehensive person.

All the equipement was available for me: washing machine, rice cooker, fridge, dishes, pans, ...

The neighborhood is attractive. Walking from the station Shiinamisen to the house gives an impression of good life.

  • Although Irene wasn't around, her flatmate was and she was incredibly helpful and amazing all the way through our stay, we had a fantastic time in Tokyo so thanks again :)

  • Irene's house is located in a quiete cozy corner of the mayhem of Tokyo, a nice place to come back to after a day spent walking around. In the area there are plenty of small restaurants and shops where you can grab a bite both for breakfast and dinner. We didn't met Irene, but her flatmate gave us some tips for nice places to go clubbing. The house is small but functional and you'll have your privacy.

I would recommend Irene's place to other travelers.

  • Irene was out of town during our five night stay, but her roommate was wonderful and really helpful with any questions we had. The apartment is in a quiet residential neighborhood, a short walk from the local subway station. The neighborhood itself is nice, with tons of restaurants and two good grocery stores.

The room was clean and perfect for two people; the kitchen was also available for use.
