Private studio apartment on south Congress behind magnolia Cafe. This is a garage apartment in my back yard. It has a separate entrance that leads right out on to S. Congress or you can chill in the yard or up on the big deck above the garage. I'm in the residential neighborhood bordering S. Congress Ave in the SOCO district.
Privacy, WiFi, your own kitchen, bathroom and bedroom Maple floors and a great location with a queen size bed. You can walk to anything down town or take a $6 cab.
There is also a bus stop across the street. All the restaurants and shops of South Congress are a few steps out the door. Check my other listing for recommendations, under South Congress private room.
The yard in fenced and very dog friendly. I have two dogs of my own.
Matt's place was clean and comfortable. Perfect location on South Congress!
Studio was very clean and a gem for location. It's a great spot if you are looking to explore South Congress for a couple days.
Staying here was super easy. Matt was easy to reach at check in time, left keys to the back house in his kitchen and just let us do our thing. Great location. We strolled down South Congress before catching an uber downtown. The place itself seemed like an unfinished guest house but the bed was comfortable and you honestly cannot beat the location. Would recommend
My boyfriend and I stayed in the backyard studio for two nights. The location is very nice, situated right of off South Congress and a very short walk to South 1st restaurants and shops. Our host, Matt, said we could check in anytime but was not present throughout our stay. He forgot to tell us how to get into the studio and where the keys were. The studio itself feels a bit undone. The closet door is off the tracks, the towel rack is falling out of the wall and the water pressure is awful--nearly impossible to take a shower. All things considered, I would not recommend this AirBnB, especially for the $300+ pricetag for 2 nights.
Be aware, the listing states it is for 2 people but charges a fee for the second guest. It is listed as an entire home with a separate entrance but Matt told us we had to enter and exit through the kitchen in the main home.
We stayed at Matt's "garage studio". I have to say that this was the worst AirBnB experience for me for the following reasons
1) the unit does not have a heater other than than a loud aircondioner that blows hot air much like a hair dryer would. imagine trying to sleep with something like that loudly blowing hot air over the bed all night. i found this unacceptable.
2) Matt was absent and did not respond to my request for a heater. The cleaning lady also called him but he did not provide a heater, even though he told the cleaning lady that he would.
3) Many things in the unit are simply non-functional. There is a closet but the door is jammed, the toilet tank seems to leak, the towel rack is not attached to the wall firmly and falls when used, etc.
4) There is a small kitchen, entirely adequately equipped but the stove was not clean when we arrived.
There were a few positives: this is a nice neighborhood and the property that this unit is attached to seems quite nice.
having pad close to $400 for three nights, i would not consider staying here again and in fact feel quite bad about the experience.
This was my second visit with Matt at his Eva St. location. As usual I enjoyed my stay and felt at home. The location is priceless. The accommodations were comfortable and peaceful. Will return to the Eva St house upon my next visit to Austin.
I enjoyed staying at Matt's place - great location, Matt is fast and easy to communicate, would come again.

I live in Austin Texas but grew up in Eugene Oregon. I've lived in Colorado for many years and Asia for two years. I'm a photographer, a skier, a cyclist and a climber who loves the mountains. Traveling and meeting interesting new people is my favorite part of life. Airbnb is a great way to make both things happen. I'm always happy to meet other travels and swap stories even if you're not staying with me. I've lived in Austin for a long time and know it well if you're looking for advice.
I keep my house pretty nice but love to rough it when I travel. My favorite places are Haiti, China, India and Eastern Europe.
We're not here for a long time, so we might as well be here for a good time.
