Enjoy this private oasis while still close to everything LA has to offer, including public transportation.
Our studio is perfect for a single person or a couple. We recently replaced our comfy full sofabed with an even comfier queen bed, so you'll be ensured a great night's sleep!
With its own private entrance, our suite is the ideal place to stay if you're visiting Los Angeles and want a spot away from the hustle and bustle of the city. We've had several friends and colleagues stay here when they are studying or working at one of the local universities and they're always pleased at how easy it is to get around from here.
The suite is a cozy one bedroom with a private entrance. The room is comfortable and has a queen-size bed. We love good linens, so you can be sure to enjoy nice sheets and towels and a good-quality year-round down comforter in a soft cotton duvet. There's a full-size bath en suite. WiFi, DirectTV with lots of cable channels and good sized desk makes this a great home away from home. After an unusually hot summer, we've added a window air conditioner so you'll be comfortable no matter how unseasonably hot it is!
There's no kitchen access, but we can provide a French press and/or an electric kettle to make coffee or tea (and Starbucks is a mere block away). We also have a small refrigerator for storing snacks and perishables.
There's a nice table outside your door where you can drink your coffee or work on your laptop. Or enjoy the oversized hammock in the garden—it's is perfect for relaxing or avoiding work!
Street parking in this neighborhood is by permit only, which can be purchased up the street at the police station for $2 a night. There is a vending machine in the lobby that is open 24/7 at 1422 Mission St. or you can get one in advance online at (website hidden).
A cleaning fee of $50 applies to stays over 1 week and is payable directly to us.
There is a small, well-behaved older dog on the property and she a valued member of our family. She is not allowed in the room, but if you are highly allergic you should be aware of this.
We're well located just a few miles east of downtown and close to all the major freeways and public transit (yes, LA does have public transportation!). It's a quick hop over to the 110 freeway which will take you to all the major freeways of LA! Our home is a short 1-block walk to Starbucks and our cute little neighborhood bar/grill. It's also just a short drive to the County USC Medical Center and a few minutes away from Caltech and the Huntington Library.
South Pasadena is home to fine boutique shopping and great restaurants. If you like a relaxed scene, you're in the right place. If you're looking for a bigger city feel, Historic Old Town Pasadena is about a mile north of our home and has all the shopping and dining you could ever want, plus some of the bigger chain stores and movie theaters. And downtown LA is about 15 minutes southeast.
South Pasadena is also at the edge of the San Gabriel Valley, known for its large and diverse Chinese population. If you have the time, great cuisine and culture is mere blocks away!
I prefer requests with a picture of you, a full airbnb profile, and some reviews. If you're new to airbnb, please share some details about yourself so we can build some trust. Stays over a week will require an additional cash cleaning fee depending on the length of stay.
Don't hesitate to send a question my way!

Visiting LA longer to handle some business issues I have had a great time here in Mari`s Apt. in South Pasadena! Mari and Cord were always supporting and helping me also with one or other tip and information! And last but not least thank you so much for your warm hospitality all this time. The apt is perfect in fittings as well as in location. And Roxie (the little dog) accepted me! Even if I have had a long stay in the apt it was very convenient and good feeling on my side. I highly recommend you as best hosts as well as became good friends, too! Thank you a lot and pls. let us stay in contact furthermore.
Had a great stay at Mari and Cord's. Location convenient to downtown LA and south Pasadena, plenty of street parking (permit require), and a cute little dog. Room was cozy and bathroom had everything we needed for our stay. Will definitely stay again next time we're in LA.
Mari and Cord were very friendly and helpful. The room is small but comfortable and cute and has a private entrance through the back yard and patio. The bed is a double, I think, and comfortable. The desk is big with lots of electrical outlets for your electronics. There is only room for 2 people, I think--you might be able to squeeze a playpen or port-a-crib in, but that would leave you with no extra floor space. There is a single walk-in closet. The mini refrigerator has enough space for a few cans of soda or a leftover lunch. Everything was spotlessly clean, and the bathroom included a shower (no tub) with a soap/shampoo/ conditioner dispenser. Mari had thoughtfully provided a hairdryer and a few personal items as well (cotton balls,q-tips, that sort of thing). There is also an electric tea kettle.
The house is located in a cute residential neighborhood, but only a block from a major thoroughfare. Despite this, the traffic noise was non-existent, probably due to the walled yard and lots of greenery. You can hear some family noise through the wall between the room and the rest of the house (kitchen clatter, TV)--which they warned me about, so it was not a surprise--but it was not bad (if I listened to music or watched TV it didn't disturb me at all). Also, things were quiet by 10:30 PM each night, so it did not disturb my sleep. I was without a car, but the bus stop is only a couple of blocks away (with Starbucks on the way!) -- although if I came again I would definitely rent a car. I would recommend them if you need a place to stay in South Pasadena!
Perfect all around! Great host, sweet location, safe, clean, and very accommodating overall experience! I'll be back.
I had a wonderful stay at Mari's place in South Pasadena. The room is cozy and charming with great floors and lots of light. The mini fridge was handy as was the big solid wood desk. Mari and Cord were both very helpful when I needed something, but otherwise let me do my own thing, which I appreciated. Also their dog is awesome! If I every need a place to stay in Pasadena again this will be towards the top of my list. Many thanks! Barry
it was nice staying at mari's. the room is clean and the backyard is beautiful. There were some problems with the electricity but mari even offered to reimburse me for some of the costs because of it. the wall between the room and their house is very thin so you can hear everything on the other side. but overall it's a nice place to stay at.
Unfortunately, the handyman and electricians that we brought in to look at the electrical system were very noisy—even though we asked them to be quiet. I apologize for that, as I know it must have been disturbing to your relaxation. I hope the rest of your trip is enjoyable.
We enjoyed the quiet setting of Mari and Cord's home. We had a private entrance and our room met our needs for the 2 weeks we stayed. Roxi the dog was so sweet that at times we had her come inside to visit. It was a great location as our son was only a mile away.
Having the electric tea pot allow us to have our morning coffee (instant from Starbucks) and with the small refrig we could have a light breakfast.
An area of the backyard has a great covering to sit out and enjoy the surroundings.
Our many thanks!
ROOM IS VERY CLEAN AND NICE AND THEIR CORGI IS PROBABLY THE CUTEST LITTLE NUGGET IVE HAD THE PLEASURE TO CUDDLE!
Great digs! Very clean, spacious w/ attached private bath & separate entrance just as described. Very convenient location. Mari was extremely accommodating!!
