Marie was great and prompt with communicating and clarifying any questions we had about the room, nearby bus routes and attractions. She was very sweet! We got a room located in her home, which had all the basic amenities. The walk to the Ala Moana took about 30 mins total, which was nice and convenient.
Some things that are worth mentioning though are:
The house is very cluttered/dirty, so using the kitchen is pretty much out of the question. There are many roosters on the property, which cock-a-doodle-doo at ALL hours of the night and morning, so earplugs are a must. Also, there's 30 cats and a dog in the home/property in which the litter boxes and pee pads are all in the living room right when you walk in.... So the house smells like urine constantly. I woke up several times in the middle of the night because the oder was so strong and fowl.
All in all, great place of your on a budget and don't plan on staying in the room much at all. If your a clean person, probably not the best choice.
Cheers and happy travels!
The reservation was canceled 5 days before arrival. This is an automated posting.
Was disappointed, place was shared with another guest with little privacy in bathroom. Kitchen and bathroom were not very clean. It was an affordable overnight stay just to sleep and move on. Unfortunately my itinerary didn't allow me to enjoy the close proximity to Wakiki Beach, which I'd originally booked it for.
We had a great time at Marie house. Everything was wonderful!!! We recommend this house for people who want to travel around Hawaii.
This was an amazing location. Just a few minutes from the hustle of Honolulu or a few minutes to the beach. In Waikiki.
Turn the other direction and there is a stellar set of trails and nature conservatory in the backyard.
Anybody staying on Oahu should be lucky enough to need a room and for Marie to have one available.
Would stay here again, but I plan to move here. So it may simply not be necessary anymore.
Marie's the best.
Stayed here for 6 days. Hosts are to the point and very nice. Room has the basic bed, sheets, towels, and cable tv. Was out and about most of the time, so having a room with the basics was great. Bathroom is shared with other guests and was ok, would only recommend cleaning out the trash daily instead of when it's really full. Would recommend staying here if you're on a budget and just need a place to sleep.
Great place to stay for the price we paid! The room is spacious and very private. A humble abode in a beautiful location, though a car may be recommended as it's a little out of the main area. Marie was very friendly and eager to give assistance if we needed her. Overall - totally recommend for a budget conscious vacation in Honolulu!
Marie's place is nicely located in the Makiki Heights. If you drive a bit up the hill you can get a stunning view of Honolulu. It's perfect if you have a rental car and want to explore the whole island as we did. Marie and her Family are very helpful with any issues. Thanks for the nice stay!
I spend my time well in Makiki Heights Drive Room. House was pretty clean(room, bathroom and kitchen) but sometimes you can find roaches. I not paying attention on it because almost always i spend my time outside(beach, swim, hiking)
Marie was always helpfull to us, she give us a lot of information about atractionson the island . So if someone looking for cheap and nice nice place to sleep I would highly recommend this place!
A second comfortable stay in this great location just a few minutes drive from all the fun events in Honolulu. Last time, the roosters woke me at dawn so, this time, I didn't bother to set an alarm. This time, a heavy rain kept skies dark and roosters quiet. I slept like a baby for nine hours.
Room C is the smaller room sharing an entrance, kitchen, bath and sitting area in the back part of the house. The common areas were more tidy, this time. Like in a hostel, that is determined by the neatness level of other visitors. I only knew I was sharing the common area because there was a light under the other bedroom door. Nice.
