Positives: My wife, child, and I were rather desperate for something inexpensive at short notice and Marie came through quickly and it was the lowest price we were finding. The location is very central for Honolulu. The shared bathroom was clean and functional. We had access to the kitchen. The internet worked fine.
Negatives: This picture is a good depiction. The room was quite poor, the washing machine requires coins, the kitchen had barely anything to use though there was coffee maker and rice cooker. We did not see a big pot to make pasta but managed with a saucepan. The other visitors helped us feel safer because they were similar -- people apartment hunting. We switched to another place after our 2 days there were up. We risked leaving a bottle of white wine in the fridge (hidden in a bag) and that was stolen between 10pm and 6am. I don't think external doors were ever locked so I didn't feel safe that way either.
My sister and I stayed a few nights here. It was true to the description, it's well worn in due to a great central location and overall great experience. We awoke to roosters as our alarm, got ready and spent all day exploring the south shore and city. We had a car to travel to all the surrounding areas but when we didn't want to drive a LYFT was about a $10 ride to Waikiki. The room had all we needed to rest comfortably when we were there. Met some other travelers trying to enjoy on a budget that had nice suggestions. This was a great home base for a traveler on a budget. Loved seeing the chickens and their baby chicks and kittens every morning and sitting in the yard. This was a chill place for saving money and experiencing Honolulu.
Place was as promised. Bare essentials in a warm inviting home. I didn't come across any other guests but the place was clean and quiet. My girlfriend and I loved how close it was to town and the jungle like surroundings made it a peaceful place to sleep. Will def stay here again. Great place for travelers on a budget.
This space is as advertised - Yes there are cats (not indoors). Yes there are rosters (and yes they crow!) The shared bathroom and kitchen spaces are completely usable. (We saw a man come in on the weekend to do an intensive clean of the shared spaces.) Of course in any sharing situation, you may need to wait a minute for another guest to finish up before using the facilities. The bedroom was private and had plenty of space for my boyfriend and I (& included our own coffee maker and TV).Those who are used to staying in shared spaces/hostels will be very satisfied. If you usually stay in a hotel, then pay for a hotel room. This place is incredibly cheap for Hawaii.
The area is safe and beautiful. Enjoy the jungle and Waikiki at the same time! Great location
Marie was great and prompt with communicating and clarifying any questions we had about the room, nearby bus routes and attractions. She was very sweet! We got a room located in her home, which had all the basic amenities. The walk to the Ala Moana took about 30 mins total, which was nice and convenient.
Some things that are worth mentioning though are:
The house is very cluttered/dirty, so using the kitchen is pretty much out of the question. There are many roosters on the property, which cock-a-doodle-doo at ALL hours of the night and morning, so earplugs are a must. Also, there's 30 cats and a dog in the home/property in which the litter boxes and pee pads are all in the living room right when you walk in.... So the house smells like urine constantly. I woke up several times in the middle of the night because the oder was so strong and fowl.
All in all, great place of your on a budget and don't plan on staying in the room much at all. If your a clean person, probably not the best choice.
Cheers and happy travels!
I have one apartment that has pets. I always confirm with the guests before renting out those rooms. I do have a feral cat colony on the property but certainly do not have 30 cats in my house. It was so awful that they stayed three full nights, and caused disruption to my other guests.
The reservation was canceled 5 days before arrival. This is an automated posting.
Was disappointed, place was shared with another guest with little privacy in bathroom. Kitchen and bathroom were not very clean. It was an affordable overnight stay just to sleep and move on. Unfortunately my itinerary didn't allow me to enjoy the close proximity to Wakiki Beach, which I'd originally booked it for.
