About this listing

Tired of the hostel scene? In our simple, clean, home, relax in your bed hearing birds chirping, frogs croaking, and wind rustling. Practice your Spanish as Teresita makes you breakfast--and the public bus stops just at the end of our road!

The space

Our peaceful location is outside the hustle and bustle of the tourist center of Santa Elena, but town is a short and pleasant walk away.

Our eco-friendly home is simple and personal. You will be living with our family but have your own private bedroom with a comfortable bed. For many years we have had students in the area come stay with us -- we love sharing our home and life with travelers from all lands!

Eli built our home here in the forest, where we can listen to the the abundant life of the mountains of Monteverde. You'll find peace and tranquility here, but have easy access to enjoy the town's restaurants and activities.

Let Eli indroduce you the orchids on the trees outside the front door, and the hole where the toucan babies live. Teresita will love to help you set up tours, call taxis, and plan your trip to this beautiful area.

We are happy to provide a Spanish Immersion experience, but daughter Tracy speaks excellent English should you need it.

Guest access

Please feel free to use our kitchen, gather eggs from the hens, and enjoy the living space.

Interaction with guests

Our home is small, so there's plenty of opportunity to interact. However, you should feel very free to simply be quiet and private in your own room.

Other things to note

Teresita makes the most delicious tortillas in all of Monteverde.

Teresita and Eli were very welcoming hosts, and their cabin was both secluded yet walkable to town. Teresita provided a homey environment by cooking us a lovely breakfast and teaching us Spanish. The cabin was very private and it was nice to wake up to all the birds chirping. Great experience!

The entire family is very welcoming and able to answer any questions you may have about the activities to chose from in Monteverde. The cabin was great and just down a path from the main house. Lovely place to stay.

Pictures don't do this place justice. It's a little haven in the middle of the forest. It's private with a small dining area , bathroom, a spacious sleeping area, and a porch. Teresita and Eli were wonderful hosts. They were friendly, offered advice on activities in the area, gave out maps to help us navigate, and made us a wonderful and delicious breakfast. We felt like part of the family, even if only for one night.

We stayed 3 nights at la Cabaña and it was wonderful. Peaceful, soothing, magical place. Teresita, Eli & Tracy are great hosts, they always made sure we were comfortable, feel home. They gave us many great advices on what to do in Monteverde. We also really enjoyed spending time, discussing with them in Spanish, a great practice! We recommend la Cabaña la Montaña without hesitation! Sébastien & Lucile

We are a family of 4 who stayed at Cabañas La Montaña in March for 2 days. This was our first trip to Costa Rica and using Airbnb. The whole family was very welcoming, informative and helpful. The cabaña we stayed in was rustic and very clean. It was roomy and had everything we needed. Lovely to be in the Costa Rican forest! Tracy was so helpful booking our tours and answering our many questions. It was so nice to get away from the tourist area and have somewhere quiet and relaxing (but still close by) to unwind. All tours we booked picked us up and dropped us off right at the cabaña. Teresita and Eli are so lovely, kind, friendly and helpful. Teresita made us incredible breakfasts and the best coffee of our lives! Really, the whole family is incredible and always made themselves available to assist us. We would highly recommend staying here.

Incredibly warm, friendly people. Felt totally safe and at ease staying with them. And enjoyed the breakfast very much!

We loved our stay at Tere and Eli's cabin. It was a perfect place to stay in Monteverde, especially if you have a car (or else it's a ~20 min walk from Santa Elena). We fell asleep to the sound of trees rustling in the wind and crickets - it was some of the best sleep we've gotten in Costa Rica. We didn't experience any bugs either. Their daughter speaks very good English and was able to book us a night tour immediately upon arrival (our guide Jorge Marin was so amazing that we ended up booking a day tour!) the next day, it was nice being able to come back to the cabin to just relax, play cards, etc. when we needed a break from all the organized tours. Tere will also feed you so much breakfast until you pop. She was shy in English but when she found out my boyfriend speaks Spanish, the two of them couldn't stop talking. This was one of our favorite stops in Costa Rica. This mountain town is small, incredibly tight knit, family oriented, and environmentally conscious. We feel lucky to have experienced it from this lovely cabin in the woods.
