About this listing
Tired of the hostel scene? In our simple, clean, home, relax in your bed hearing birds chirping, frogs croaking, and wind rustling. Practice your Spanish as Teresita makes you breakfast--and the public bus stops just at the end of our road!
Our peaceful location is outside the hustle and bustle of the tourist center of Santa Elena, but town is a short and pleasant walk away.
Our eco-friendly home is simple and personal. You will be living with our family but have your own private bedroom with a comfortable bed. For many years we have had students in the area come stay with us -- we love sharing our home and life with travelers from all lands!
Eli built our home here in the forest, where we can listen to the the abundant life of the mountains of Monteverde. You'll find peace and tranquility here, but have easy access to enjoy the town's restaurants and activities.
Let Eli indroduce you the orchids on the trees outside the front door, and the hole where the toucan babies live. Teresita will love to help you set up tours, call taxis, and plan your trip to this beautiful area.
We are happy to provide a Spanish Immersion experience, but daughter Tracy speaks excellent English should you need it.
Please feel free to use our kitchen, gather eggs from the hens, and enjoy the living space.
Interaction with Guests
Our home is small, so there's plenty of opportunity to interact. However, you should feel very free to simply be quiet and private in your own room.
Taxis are inexpensive and plentiful, and are the way most people get around in Monteverde. In addition, the public bus from San Jose/Alajuela passes right by our house two times each day on its way to Santa Elena and Monteverde.
We can also help you arrange private transportation to anywhere in Costa Rica.
Other Things to Note
Teresita makes the most delicious tortillas in all of Monteverde.
You are welcome to smoke on the property, but not in the house.
We are a family house; responsible drinking is allowed, but no partying and absolutely no drugs.
We had a great time in Teresita and Eli's cabina. It is away from the house in the woods and, as others have said, it really felt like we were in nature. The hosts were kind and helpful and, upon our arrival, the daughter immediately laid out all the tour possibilities for us and they made any reservations we requested. They made our visit easy and gave us great recommendations. It's a rustic experience and if that's what you're looking for it's an ideal option.
Our stay with Terisita and Eli was a wonderful experience. We stayed in one of their cabins complete with hot water, towels, private bath, a queen bed with fresh sheets and a spectacular view of their property in the forest. We felt like part of the family, as soon as we arrived Teresita welcomed us with hugs and coffee in their home. Soon after we arrived Tracy, their daughter, explained all of what there is to do in Monteverde and gave us recommendations. The cabin felt secluded even though we were a few steps away from their home. Around the cabin was filled with orchids and birds which added to the stay. Every morning Teresita would make us a delicious breakfast. I would highly recommend staying here, we wish we stayed longer!
These hosts were so welcoming and really made us feel like family. The breakfast was great and the mountain cabin was simple and clean. They even helped plan the outings for us which was really nice! Definitely will be staying here again!
We had a really lovely stay at Teresita & Eli's. They bought their property on the mountain about a year and a half ago and Eli and Teresita's father built their house, and they have built 2 small cabins on their property for their guests to stay. We stayed in the newer cabin, completed about a month before our arrival. It has 2 double-ish beds, a table with chairs, bathroom and shower, and a couple shelves for your bag(s), no wifi but you can use it in the house. Breakfast is as amazing as described (Teresita got up to make us breakfast as early at 6:15 one day to make our tour!), and Teresita also made us some snacks and juice when we were in the house. They're kind, loving, warm and open with great suggestions and info for the area. I don't speak Spanish but my daughter does and translated for us. It's definitely more of a camping, outdoorsy experience, but that's what we were looking for. If you're interested in learning more about the Tico way of life, meeting and getting to know some locals, and are open to a bit of a camping feel, this is perfect and highly recommended. We didn't walk to town (we had a car and I was on crutches so we drove), but it would be a bit of a walk, probably 20-25 minutes. Arrival was a bit confusing--if you're coming from Santa Elena, drive just past the gas station on the left (the locals call it "El Tubo" but the sign says 606). You'll take the first right past it and at the end of the road before a turn to the left, you'll see a fence with a sign that says "Cabana La Montana" and you're there!
Eli picked me up from San Jose airport and the moment we got to his and Teresa's house, he told me in Spanish, "My house is your house" & Teresa hugged me like she hadn't seen me in a long time. As a single woman traveling by herself,I felt comfortable right away given the warm vibes I got from them. I appreciate and respect that they gave me privacy when I wanted and Teresa and I chit chatted over yummy breakfast she made every morning like we are sisters catching up, while exchanging English/Spanish lessons. They arranged tours and transportation & gave their suggestions when asked. I also liked the setting of the cabin, which is part of the main house but still private and separate, mattress was comfortable with running hot water. You sleep and wake up to the sounds of the jungle and yet are just 2kms./$3 of a taxi ride away from town. Every taxi driver knows Eli & Teresa's house! A must stay. I miss them already!
Teresita and Eli are great host ! They will help you for the excursions and exploring Monteverde. They are Kind, helpful and openminded. The room is very Nice and clean. Its like if i Was sleeping in nature so its very quiet and charming. I recommend this place.
Teresita and Eli are among the most amazing hosts we ever stayed with. They are always helpful in any question, do everything to make your holidays really relaxing. The cabins are standalone, very neat buildings, fully natural in the middle of he Forrest - just 50 meters walk from the main house. All Monteverde sights easily accessible. Note, that you will be staying in the middle of the forest, so you will need headlights and some sprays to kill the bugs who might come to the light (both provided by Eli)
Last but not least you will for sure love he amazing breakfast Teresita prepares every morning:-)
