About this listing
Tired of the hostel scene? In our simple, clean, home, relax in your bed hearing birds chirping, frogs croaking, and wind rustling. Practice your Spanish as Teresita makes you breakfast--and the public bus stops just at the end of our road!
Our peaceful location is outside the hustle and bustle of the tourist center of Santa Elena, but town is a short and pleasant walk away.
Our eco-friendly home is simple and personal. You will be living with our family but have your own private bedroom with a comfortable bed. For many years we have had students in the area come stay with us -- we love sharing our home and life with travelers from all lands!
Eli built our home here in the forest, where we can listen to the the abundant life of the mountains of Monteverde. You'll find peace and tranquility here, but have easy access to enjoy the town's restaurants and activities.
Let Eli indroduce you the orchids on the trees outside the front door, and the hole where the toucan babies live. Teresita will love to help you set up tours, call taxis, and plan your trip to this beautiful area.
We are happy to provide a Spanish Immersion experience, but daughter Tracy speaks excellent English should you need it.
Please feel free to use our kitchen, gather eggs from the hens, and enjoy the living space.
Interaction with Guests
Our home is small, so there's plenty of opportunity to interact. However, you should feel very free to simply be quiet and private in your own room.
Taxis are inexpensive and plentiful, and are the way most people get around in Monteverde. In addition, the public bus from San Jose/Alajuela passes right by our house two times each day on its way to Santa Elena and Monteverde.
We can also help you arrange private transportation to anywhere in Costa Rica.
Other Things to Note
Teresita makes the most delicious tortillas in all of Monteverde.
You are welcome to smoke on the property, but not in the house.
We are a family house; responsible drinking is allowed, but no partying and absolutely no drugs.
We stayed with Eli, Teresita, Tracy and Esteban for one night during our trip in Costa Rica - and loved it!
We had some trouble finding it initially because not many locals knew of the 606 gas station, a useful landmark in finding your way there.
The house truly is a gem - when you think of a wooden cabin that is it! Eli did an outstanding job building and designing it. We had a large bedroom with comfy bed and plenty of space; everything made out of wood and smelling wonderfully fresh. Breakfast was truly delicious with many options to start your day off. Shower had great pressure and hot water. The property is beautiful, and close to everything in Monteverde; Teresita helped us book trips and suggested things to do and great places to eat. You can trust her taste in activities and restaurants around town. We wish we could've stayed another night at the cabin and enjoyed one more breakfast.
Teresita, Eli and their kids were SO AMAZING! They brought us in as if we were family and made our stay in Monteverde really special. We were greeted by Eli (everyone in town knows him) and his daughter and they gave us the run-down of the town and recommendations on which tour groups we should use and everything we did was as awesome as they said it would be. We were in town during Mother's day so we also got to meet some of their extended family and then went to the local festival in town that night. Teresita made us breakfast both mornings we were there and she and their son played cards with us for hours the last night we were there. If we are ever back in Costa Rica we would be honored to stay with them again.
My stay here was wonderful! We were lost and didn't know how to get to there place. We stopped at the 606 gas station down the street from them to meet up with us. They were literally around the corner of the gas station. Upon arriving we were greeted with open arms and some juice and toast. Tracy(daughter) gave us the rundown of all the activities to do in Monteverde, we booked the Aventura zip lining through them and it was a great tour. Teresita woke up really early to make us a delicious breakfast and we had a great morning conversation. I wish we would've stay loved but we only had a short amount of time in Costa Rica. I would recommend everyone staying here and they treated us like family. . (PS- I had an issue with the shower but it was because I turn the knob the wrong way, oops . I had a cold shower while my fiend had a nice steamy shower- just make sure you turn it the right way. )
Staying with Teresa and Eli was a great experience. My boyfriend and I stayed in their private cabin that Eli build himself. Teresa made us local breakfast every morning and always catered to our needs. She did our laundry and cleaned our room! It was a nice surprise. We got a chance to practice our Spanish as she is perfecting her English. Very sweet mother. It is located 25 minute walk away from town (Santa Elena). Only $3 taxi ride into town. The family helped us book some torus and called taxi for us. If you are interested in getting a local feel of Monteverde and some privacy in the woods, I would recommend this place!
Wonderful view, wonderful host. They also made us an excellent breakfast.
This place is very close to Santa Elena and Monteverde, just make sure you have a car or be prepared to pay taxis. I highly recommend everyone stay here!
