Lovely Private Room , Historic Home

House - Private room · N Cactus St, Cottonwood, AZ 86326, United States

You will find the room spacious and homelike. It is set up like a hotel room with a mini fridge, microwave, tea kettle and coffee maker. My location is a nice central locale for visiting the whole valley.

The Space

This is a very peaceful space. My Historic Cottonwood home offers a spacious, private, self contained room with a small, private 3/4 bath best for one or two guests. Though I could easily accommodate one child by bringing in a roll-a-way bed. My 100 year old Mexican Style stucco was remodeled recently so has updated amenities. Located in the heart of the Verde Valley just 16 miles from Sedona and the artist haven of Jerome just up Mingus Mountain. It has a comfortable double bed, sitting area, porch, cable TV and wireless internet, microwave, coffee maker and small fridge for your convenience. There is a western style front porch for your use. Please remember in your consideration of my room that it is in my home, though it has a separate front entrance. There is some noise between front and back of house. My bedroom is at the back of the house. If you want total privacy, it may not be for you but please contact me about this if you want more info. My home is located in a safe and quiet neighborhood. I am just one easy block away from shopping, restaurants and several wine bars. Also a block away is a nice walking trail along the Verde River through the woods. Deadhorse State Park is just a mile away and a nice place to hike, fish or picnic on the 3 ponds that are a highlight of the park, but it also has wetlands and desert trails for hiking or Mountain bike. Three National Monuments are within a short drive, all feature prehistoric dwellings. Jerome is just a few miles up the mountain and a fun place to explore with it's historical charm and artistic atmosphere, offering great views of the valley and a nice walk around atmosphere. We do have a bus system which would take you to Sedona for the day if you like. Or just sit on my sweet front porch and relax!

You will find Old Town Cottonwood is undergoing a renaissance of it's business area and a fun place to shop, eat and stroll around. Cottonwood and the surrounding area has a spirited history due to the mining industry that originally settled the area. Many stories abound concerning the miners and other settlers of the the area.

The Verde Valley is as described: Green. We have a number of creeks running through this area and the Verde River as a major water source. So there is a lot of riparian area and desert interest as well. There are several Indian Ruins in the area. Hiking is a fun pastime or day trips to Flagstaff, Prescott, Sedona, the Grand Canyon and other attractions will give you plenty to do.

The area is a haven for both artistic and spiritual pursuits. Montezuma's Well is one of the area's wonderful prehistoric sites and a half day could be spent visiting there, or picnic along Beaver Creek, very close by and also visiting Montezuma's Castle just a few miles down the road. This area has much to offer in natural and cultural history and a quiet and slow pace for pure relaxation.

There is an additional cleaning fee for a pet, which I could not list here, the price will depend on length of stay, please inquire. Please read House manual and rules, Thank You.

Guest Access

Guests have their own outdoor sitting area, which gets morning sun and is the front porch seen in photos on this site. The room is private with some extraneous noise from my living space which is behind the room. You enter through the front door and park on street just steps from your room.

Interaction with Guests

I am available to talk or give information as desired. I will occasionally give rides as needed. Don't hesitate to ask for anything or information on the room or the area. I will do my best to help you have a warm and comfortable stay.

The Neighborhood

The location. My house is in the oldest part of Cottonwood and Main Street shops are just a quick walk from my home. The river is also a long block away for some peace and solitude without driving. For eating there are several choices on Main St. My favorite is the Thai Palace just a block away. There is a great coffee shop on Main and a tea house as well. So there is a lot to offer very close by but in a quiet setting as I am on a low traffic street and am blocked from trafficnoise on Main Street by a large building right across the street. The block also a safe area. Nights are generally quiet.

Getting around

A bus runs to Sedona twice a day, morning and late afternoon. Local buses are available around Cottonwood daily. Limited cab service. Transport from Phoenix via two different shuttle services. Ace Express is my favorite and will drop you at my house and pick you up. Ask for no. if needed. Car rental at Sedona airport.

Other Things to Note

Clarkdale train is a few miles away. Jerome is six miles up the mountain. Deadhorse State Park is just a mile or so away and within walking distance if desired. The River trail is a nice place for a walk a block way next to the tea house. Tuzigoot National Monument, which has Anasazi ruins is just 3 miles away. Two large grocery stores a few miles away and also a Natural Grocery. The main store for general items is a Walmart on the opposite side of town as you come in from Phoenix on 260.

  • Rita's place is a gem. It is clean, the bed is super comfortable, and it was a great space to be in. The bathroom is small, but quite functional. The house is as pictured and has a wonderful artistic ambiance. The town of Cottonwood is quaint, but it has really good restaurants that are within walking distance. If you need information Rita has notebooks she's put together in the room (including some interesting articles cut from newspapers), or just ask her. She is warm and friendly and a true hostess to her guests.

  • Staying at Rita's was like staying at the most comfortable, comforting, lovely private fun place imaginable!!! Everything was so lovely, clean, high quality, artistic, easy and accommodating. Rita is a great host in every way. She is available for information and conversation and respects privacy and quiet completely. I LOVED staying there!!!! Thank you Rita!!!!

Thank You and I wish you all the best in your continued journey through this life. Rita

  • Rita's room was perfect, we really had a nice time there. Very comfortable and private. We had breakfast on the porch in the mornings, it was lovely! The best part was that there was tons of local area and restaurant information in the room which helped us find a few good places to go. She's right behind Main street which has some fun places to go to. We went hiking on the "jail trail" just off main street. Rita is a very nice person and great host, directions and everything were well explained and the room had everything you needed, a very relaxing place to come back to in the evenings. You have a large room at the front of the house with a coffee maker, fridge, microwave, sofa, tv, and porch. Would definitely stay again!

  • Rita's home is the perfect place to stay if you want the true experience of Cottonwood, the Verde Valley... as well as a quick commute to Sedona, Flagstaff, and too many great places to list!

Rita is a lovely hostess whose cozy-homey-lovely Bohemian aesthetics make you want to call this space home and never leave! She went the extra mile and did great little things like a) have some yummy snack foods waiting for us when we entered for our stay b) have BINDERS FULL of pamphlets, maps, menus, newspaper articles, etc of amazing places to visit and eat while you're in the area

Her place is in an INCREDIBLE location, just walking distance away from all of Cottonwood's historic downtown little shops, eateries, cafes, and wine tasting cellars.

We could not have asked for a better place to stay while we explored the area or a better hostess.

As her profile says, this space is a perfectly sized space that is connected to her house, but separated by a wall and door so it's very private (MUCH MORE private than a hotel room because on the other side of the wall is Rita (who as I've said is an amazing hostess) and not the series of the usual suspects you're bound to share a wall with at a busy hotel.

Rita's place is open and spacious with vaulted ceilings, a full private bathroom, and the entire space is decorated with all the lovely little touches that she tastefully has graced the space with.

And another note: considering the great price she offers this space for I don't believe I could have found more bang for my buck anywhere else in town (or maybe all of Arizona). Actually her rate was cheaper than the LOUD hostel we stayed in the last time we were here and we got MUCH better sleep at Rita's peaceful abode ;)

You will not be disappointed!!!!! Comes highly recommended from myself and my guest who shared the space with me. If we make it back to Cottonwood any time soon we will most assuredly be re-booking with Rita.

Cheers, and if you're looking at Rita's space...look no further! Click "BOOK"!

    Response from Rita:

What a wonderful reveiw...I don't know if I truly live up to that description but do my best. Thanks so much your two were fun and friendly to have around. Come back and stay in Cottonwood. You would be a great addition to our community. Happy Trails.

  • It was lovely, clean, 1 block from the charming historic Cottonwood. I was there basically to sleep. It's good to have a car. Historic Cottonwood doesn't have any convenient stores or food stores; but they do have bakeries and a little farmer's market if you want to buy some vittles. I will stay there again. Rita's Place is the place for me!

  • I felt at home with Rita. We share a love for nature and conserve energy. She was very friendly and welcoming. The area is quiet and interesting. I definitely recommend it to anyone. Kathleen Wildwood

  • Rita was awesome and the room was great! This place is literally a 100 feet from Historic Downtown Cottonwood, about 20 minutes drive from Jerome and about 30 minutes drive from downtown Sedona. The room has its own little bathroom, fridge, TV, fast Internet and more! Highly recommended!

  • This colourful guest room is adorable and Rita is a friendly and informative host. We loved exploring Cottonwood. Everything you need is a two minute walk away, and the front porch is a great place to enjoy your breakfast. The guest room is a great home base for exploring the surrounding areas and Sedona, or just to hang out and read in the sun.

    Response from Rita:

Thanks Sara for your kind words. Glad your first visit to the Southwest was fun for you.

  • Rita's place is even better than the pictures! It is spacious, clean and comfortable. Even though the room is connected to the main house, it feels like a completely private apartment. The place is located right in the heart of old town Cottonwood, very close to Jerome (another charming town) and a 15 minute drive to Sedona. Rita is a kind, warm host and I would stay with her again if I were in the area! Thanks for providing such a nice place, Rita!!

I was born in Oregon, raised in Alaska and have been living in the Southwest for about 12 years. I bought this house 4 years ago. I love nature and you will find my house to be surrounded with plants. I recently had grid linked solar installed on the house which has been a blessing and a fun project. I love living in Cottonwood and it is a pleasure to invite you into my home for a hopefully restful stay.
