You will find the room spacious and homelike. It is set up like a hotel room with a mini fridge, microwave, tea kettle and coffee maker. My location is a nice central locale for visiting the whole valley.
As of June 1 this listing will no longer be available. I am moving to Kanab, Utah in the fall and hope eventually to offer lodging there. I have very few bookings left available as of this time, a few days in April and May. This is a very peaceful space. My Historic Cottonwood home offers a spacious, private, self contained room with a small, private 3/4 bath best for one or two guests. Though I could easily accommodate one child by bringing in a roll-a-way bed. My 100 year old Mexican Style stucco was remodeled recently so has updated amenities. Located in the heart of the Verde Valley just 16 miles from Sedona and the artist haven of Jerome just up Mingus Mountain. It has a comfortable double bed, sitting area, porch, cable TV and wireless internet, microwave, coffee maker and small fridge for your convenience. There is a western style front porch for your use. Please remember in your consideration of my room that it is in my home, though it has a separate front entrance. There is some noise between front and back of house. My bedroom is at the back of the house. If you want total privacy, it may not be for you but please contact me about this if you want more info. My home is located in a safe and quiet neighborhood. I am just one easy block away from shopping, restaurants and several wine bars. Also a block away is a nice walking trail along the Verde River through the woods. Deadhorse State Park is just a mile away and a nice place to hike, fish or picnic on the 3 ponds that are a highlight of the park, but it also has wetlands and desert trails for hiking or Mountain bike. Three National Monuments are within a short drive, all feature prehistoric dwellings. Jerome is just a few miles up the mountain and a fun place to explore with it's historical charm and artistic atmosphere, offering great views of the valley and a nice walk around atmosphere. We do have a bus system which would take you to Sedona for the day if you like. Or just sit on my sweet front porch and relax!
You will find Old Town Cottonwood is undergoing a renaissance of it's business area and a fun place to shop, eat and stroll around. Cottonwood and the surrounding area has a spirited history due to the mining industry that originally settled the area. Many stories abound concerning the miners and other settlers of the the area.
The Verde Valley is as described: Green. We have a number of creeks running through this area and the Verde River as a major water source. So there is a lot of riparian area and desert interest as well. There are several Indian Ruins in the area. Hiking is a fun pastime or day trips to Flagstaff, Prescott, Sedona, the Grand Canyon and other attractions will give you plenty to do.
The area is a haven for both artistic and spiritual pursuits. Montezuma's Well is one of the area's wonderful prehistoric sites and a half day could be spent visiting there, or picnic along Beaver Creek, very close by and also visiting Montezuma's Castle just a few miles down the road. This area has much to offer in natural and cultural history and a quiet and slow pace for pure relaxation.
There is an additional cleaning fee for a pet, which I could not list here, the price will depend on length of stay, please inquire. Please read House manual and rules, Thank You.
Guests have their own outdoor sitting area, which gets morning sun and is the front porch seen in photos on this site. The room is private with some extraneous noise from my living space which is behind the room. You enter through the front door and park on street just steps from your room.
Interaction with Guests
I am available to talk or give information as desired. I will occasionally give rides as needed. Don't hesitate to ask for anything or information on the room or the area. I will do my best to help you have a warm and comfortable stay.
My house is in the oldest part of Cottonwood. Main Street shops are just a quick walk from my home. The river is also a long block away for some peace and solitude without driving. For eating there are several choices on Main St. My favorite is the Thai Palace just a block away. There is a great coffee shop on Main and a tea house as well. So there is a lot to offer very close by but in a quiet setting as I am on a low traffic street and am blocked from traffic noise on Main Street by a large building right across the street. The block also a safe area. Nights are generally quiet.
A bus runs to Sedona twice a day, morning and late afternoon. Local buses are available around Cottonwood daily. Limited cab service. Transport from Phoenix via two different shuttle services. Ace Express is my favorite and will drop you at my house and pick you up. Ask for no. if needed. Car rental at Sedona airport.
Other Things to Note
Clarkdale train is a few miles away. Jerome is six miles up the mountain. Deadhorse State Park is just a mile or so away and within walking distance if desired. The River trail is a nice place for a walk a block way next to the tea house. Tuzigoot National Monument, which has Anasazi ruins is just 3 miles away. Two large grocery stores a few miles away and also a Natural Grocery. The main store for general items is a Walmart on the opposite side of town as you come in from Phoenix on 260.

Such a cozy and comfortable stay at Rita's. The room was just what I expected and more. Located just behind the cool strip of restaurants and shops of old Cottonwood, close to nice walks by the river and a short drive to Jerome, clarkdale and Sedona. Good wifi, cool movies and documentaries when recovering from jet lag :). I highly recommend this property and Rita's warm, friendly hospitality.
This was our second visit to cute, Old Town Cottonwood, AZ. We were referred by a friend of a friend to Rita's place and booked two nights. We called Rita upon arrival and she met us promptly at the front door (parking right in front of the house, few steps from front door). We chatted for a minute, but the rest of the visit was quiet/private... didn't feel like you were renting part of someone's house ;) The location is great, very walkable (super short walk to Main St.) with several restaurants (we enjoyed the pizza & wine at Bocce) local wine tasting, bookstore, local arts, Jail Trail (an easy, peaceful walk down to the river) yoga studio, etc.! Rita's place was clean & quaint, sort of hippie, very casual, mismatched furnishings and linens... but very relaxed and non-fussy (which is what we liked about it;) Nice touches with hand written notes and a poetry book for guests to write in & share (cute!) The front porch is for guest use & we were visited by the neighbor's cute, friendly cat too ;) The internet worked perfectly & had Netflix available. We would gladly stay again!
Rita's place was lovely, the best place to stay in cottonwood! It smelled of fresh breeze and cedar and felt like a home away from home. Rita was warm, welcoming, and helpful with things to do in the area. Would definitely come back!
We had an excellent visit to Rita's place in Cottonwood. The house was very clean and comfortable and was the perfect home base for our travels around northern AZ. It's a very peaceful and relaxing place, we felt at home right away. Cottonwood itself is a great little town and the house puts you in walking distance from everything. Thanks Rita for being such a great host and making our stay so nice.
Rita's place was great. It feels very private and is beautifully furnished and decorated. Rita herself was also lovely and gave us some great hiking recommendations. Thanks for a great couple of days! This was our favorite place to stay over our week-long trip.
Rita was very nice to us. We got warm welcome from her :) The room was clean and had everything we need. Thank you, Rita!
Rita has set this charming room up so well- everything just screamed "welcome and enjoy." Room is adorable, cozy, and clean. We texted her to let her know when we would be arriving and for good restaurants, she responded back with good suggestions. Just could not ask for better accommodations and cost. Would definitely recommend.
I was born in Oregon, raised in Alaska and have been living in the Southwest for about 12 years. I bought this house 4 years ago. I love nature and you will find my house to be surrounded with plants. I recently had grid linked solar installed on the house which has been a blessing and a fun project. I love living in Cottonwood and it is a pleasure to invite you into my home for a hopefully restful stay.
