About this listing
You will find the room spacious and homelike. The furnishings are simple. It is set up like a hotel room with a mini fridge, microwave, tea kettle and coffee maker. My location is a nice central locale for visiting the whole valley.
My Guest room is a very peaceful space. My Historic Cottonwood home offers a spacious, private, self contained room with a small, private 3/4 bath best for one or two guests. It is simply furnished and very clean. The DOUBLE BED is med. firm. I could easily accommodate one child by bringing in a roll-a-way bed. My 100 year old Mexican Style stucco was remodeled recently so has updated amenities. Located in the heart of the Verde Valley just 16 miles from Sedona and the artist haven of Jerome just up Mingus Mountain. It has a comfortable DOUBLE BED, sitting area, porch, NETFLIX and wireless internet, microwave, coffee maker and small fridge for your convenience. There is a western style front porch for your use. Please remember in your consideration of my room that it is in my home, though it has a separate front entrance. This is my home so there is some noise between front and back of house. My bedroom is at the back of the house. If you want total privacy, it may not be for you but please contact me about this if you want more info. My home is located in a safe and quiet neighborhood. I am just one easy block away from shopping, restaurants and several wine bars. Also a block away is a nice walking trail along the Verde River through the woods. Deadhorse State Park is just a mile away and a nice place to hike, fish or picnic on the 3 ponds that are a highlight of the park, but it also has wetlands and desert trails for hiking or Mountain bike. Three National Monuments are within a short drive, all feature prehistoric dwellings. Jerome is just a few miles up the mountain and a fun place to explore with it's historical charm and artistic atmosphere, It offers great views of the valley and a nice walk around atmosphere. We do have a bus system which would take you to Sedona for the day if you like. Or just sit on my sweet front porch and relax!
You will find Old Town Cottonwood is undergoing a renaissance of it's business area and a fun place to shop, eat and stroll around. Cottonwood and the surrounding area has a spirited history due to the mining industry that originally settled the area. Many stories abound concerning the miners and other settlers of the the area.
The Verde Valley is as described: Green. We have a number of creeks running through this area and the Verde River as a major water source. So there is a lot of riparian area and desert interest as well. There are several Indian Ruins in the area. Hiking is a fun pastime or day trips to Flagstaff, Prescott, Sedona, the Grand Canyon and other attractions will give you plenty to do.
The area is a haven for both artistic and spiritual pursuits. Montezuma's Well is one of the area's wonderful prehistoric sites and a half day could be spent visiting there, or picnic along Beaver Creek, very close by and also visiting Montezuma's Castle just a few miles down the road. This area has much to offer in natural and cultural history and a quiet and slow pace for pure relaxation.
There is an additional cleaning fee for a pet, which I could not list here, the price will depend on length of stay, please inquire. Please read House manual and rules, Thank You.
Guests have their own outdoor sitting porch on the front of the house, which gets morning sun and is the front porch seen in photos on this site. The room is private with some extraneous noise from my living space which is behind the room. You enter through the front door and park on street just steps from your room.
Interaction with Guests
I am available to talk or give information as desired. I will occasionally give rides as needed. Don't hesitate to ask for anything or information on the room or the area. I will do my best to help you have a home-like and comfortable stay.
My house is in the oldest part of Cottonwood. Main Street shops are just a quick walk from my home. The river is also a long block away for some peace and solitude without driving. For eating there are several choices on Main St. My favorite is the Thai Palace just a block away. There is a great coffee shop on Main; Crema, and a tea house as well. So there is a lot to offer very close by but in a quiet setting as I am on a low traffic street and am blocked from traffic noise on Main Street by a large building right across the street. The block also a safe area. Nights are generally quiet.
A bus runs to Sedona twice a day, morning and late afternoon. Local buses are available around Cottonwood daily. Limited cab service. Transport from Phoenix via two different shuttle services. Ace Express is my favorite and will drop you at my house and pick you up. Ask for no. if needed. Car rental at Sedona airport and one agency in Cottonwood.
Other Things to Note
Clarkdale train is a few miles away. Jerome is six miles up the mountain. Deadhorse State Park is just a mile or so away and within walking distance if desired. The River trail is a nice place for a walk a block way next to the tea house. Tuzigoot National Monument, which has Anasazi ruins is just 3 miles away. Two large grocery stores a few miles away and also a Natural Grocery. The main store for general items is a Walmart on the opposite side of town as you come in from Phoenix on 260.

Rita, accommodation and Neighbourhood were exactly as described . Rita is welcoming with the right balance of being helpful and friendly and respectful of personal space even though you are in her home. I was travelling solo ,so it was an absolute bonus to find a lovely lady on arrival who ,if I wanted to, was happy to discuss any observations of the day.
The accommodation is self contained with own entrance . Made very attractive using Rita's artistic talents with lovely thoughtful touches in abundance. It is a home from home. The neighbourhood is quiet, safe and within steps of restaurants and shops in the Old part of Cottonwood. Wonderful can't recommend it highly enough. Thank you for making the end of my vacation a delight.
Rita was an excellent host and very welcoming. We were supplied with everything we needed. She even had snacks in the room. The location was ideal for walking to/from breakfast and dinner. I will most certainly be staying at Rita's again!
We had a lovely time in Rita's home. The room was very nice, clean and tidy, and she was very respectful with us, and worried about our confort.
A wonderful experience!
Rita was a wonderful host and her place was perfectly located to visit Cottonwood and Sedona. Highly recommend staying with her!
Listing was as advertised. Very safe neighborhood. I would stay there again.
We really enjoyed staying in Rita's room in Cottonwood - it was everything we could need or want as a base for exploring the Verde Valley. Rita left us lots of healthy snacks (apples, peanut butter pretzels, etc) and the room was clean and comfortable. We did not see Rita very much, but she was always thinking of us-there were some cool days while we were there, but the heat was on and the temperature in the room was always comfortable. Rita's art was fun and made the space homey and festive. The neighborhood is quiet at night and pleasant to walk around in, Dead Horse State Park (what a name!) is a short walk away. There is a great Thai restaurant just down the street, and the Food City Mexican grocery in newer Cottonwood was fun too.
Despite the rainy weather, we had a great trip and would gladly return anytime.
Sorry this review is so late, we had to prepare for Donald's trip to Bangladesh almost as soon as we got back.
Thanks again Rita, your place was wonderful!
My stay at Rita's in Cottonwood was wonderful. The space is so quaint and cute, and it definitely has an artist's touch! Rita had some snacks, a microwave & mini-fridge waiting for me. I was starving when I arrived so this was a major bonus :) The neighborhood couldn't get any better. It is literally a 2 minute walk from old town cottonwood which has many restaurants, cafes and boutiques to explore! The space was clean and quiet. Some night-time traffic outside the window, but that's to be expected! I would stay there again in a heartbeat!
About the Host, Rita
I was born in Oregon, raised in Alaska and have been living in the Southwest for about 15 years. I bought this house 7 years ago. I love nature and you will find my house to be surrounded with plants. I recently had grid linked solar installed on the house which has been a blessing and a fun project. I love living in Cottonwood and it is a pleasure to invite you into my home for a hopefully restful stay.
