You will find the room spacious and homelike. It is set up like a hotel room with a mini fridge, microwave, tea kettle and coffee maker. My location is a nice central locale for visiting the whole valley.
This is a very peaceful space. My Historic Cottonwood home offers a spacious, private, self contained room with a small, private 3/4 bath best for one or two guests. Though I could easily accommodate one child by bringing in a roll-a-way bed. My 100 year old Mexican Style stucco was remodeled recently so has updated amenities. Located in the heart of the Verde Valley just 16 miles from Sedona and the artist haven of Jerome just up Mingus Mountain. It has a comfortable double bed, sitting area, porch, cable TV and wireless internet, microwave, coffee maker and small fridge for your convenience. There is a western style front porch for your use. Please remember in your consideration of my room that it is in my home, though it has a separate front entrance. There is some noise between front and back of house. My bedroom is at the back of the house. If you want total privacy, it may not be for you but please contact me about this if you want more info. My home is located in a safe and quiet neighborhood. I am just one easy block away from shopping, restaurants and several wine bars. Also a block away is a nice walking trail along the Verde River through the woods. Deadhorse State Park is just a mile away and a nice place to hike, fish or picnic on the 3 ponds that are a highlight of the park, but it also has wetlands and desert trails for hiking or Mountain bike. Three National Monuments are within a short drive, all feature prehistoric dwellings. Jerome is just a few miles up the mountain and a fun place to explore with it's historical charm and artistic atmosphere, offering great views of the valley and a nice walk around atmosphere. We do have a bus system which would take you to Sedona for the day if you like. Or just sit on my sweet front porch and relax!
You will find Old Town Cottonwood is undergoing a renaissance of it's business area and a fun place to shop, eat and stroll around. Cottonwood and the surrounding area has a spirited history due to the mining industry that originally settled the area. Many stories abound concerning the miners and other settlers of the the area.
The Verde Valley is as described: Green. We have a number of creeks running through this area and the Verde River as a major water source. So there is a lot of riparian area and desert interest as well. There are several Indian Ruins in the area. Hiking is a fun pastime or day trips to Flagstaff, Prescott, Sedona, the Grand Canyon and other attractions will give you plenty to do.
The area is a haven for both artistic and spiritual pursuits. Montezuma's Well is one of the area's wonderful prehistoric sites and a half day could be spent visiting there, or picnic along Beaver Creek, very close by and also visiting Montezuma's Castle just a few miles down the road. This area has much to offer in natural and cultural history and a quiet and slow pace for pure relaxation.
There is an additional cleaning fee for a pet, which I could not list here, the price will depend on length of stay, please inquire. Please read House manual and rules, Thank You.
Guests have their own outdoor sitting area, which gets morning sun and is the front porch seen in photos on this site. The room is private with some extraneous noise from my living space which is behind the room. You enter through the front door and park on street just steps from your room.
I am available to talk or give information as desired. I will occasionally give rides as needed. Don't hesitate to ask for anything or information on the room or the area. I will do my best to help you have a warm and comfortable stay.
The location. My house is in the oldest part of Cottonwood and Main Street shops are just a quick walk from my home. The river is also a long block away for some peace and solitude without driving. For eating there are several choices on Main St. My favorite is the Thai Palace just a block away. There is a great coffee shop on Main and a tea house as well. So there is a lot to offer very close by but in a quiet setting as I am on a low traffic street and am blocked from trafficnoise on Main Street by a large building right across the street. The block also a safe area. Nights are generally quiet.
A bus runs to Sedona twice a day, morning and late afternoon. Local buses are available around Cottonwood daily. Limited cab service. Transport from Phoenix via two different shuttle services. Ace Express is my favorite and will drop you at my house and pick you up. Ask for no. if needed. Car rental at Sedona airport.
Clarkdale train is a few miles away. Jerome is six miles up the mountain. Deadhorse State Park is just a mile or so away and within walking distance if desired. The River trail is a nice place for a walk a block way next to the tea house. Tuzigoot National Monument, which has Anasazi ruins is just 3 miles away. Two large grocery stores a few miles away and also a Natural Grocery. The main store for general items is a Walmart on the opposite side of town as you come in from Phoenix on 260.

It was lovely, clean, 1 block from the charming historic Cottonwood. I was there basically to sleep. It's good to have a car. Historic Cottonwood doesn't have any convenient stores or food stores; but they do have bakeries and a little farmer's market if you want to buy some vittles. I will stay there again. Rita's Place is the place for me!
Rita’s home is absolutely fabulous! So peaceful. The room its self was very comfortable with everything we could possibly need. Very clean. She is very considerate in having field guides to the local plants and wildlife and travel information. We loved sitting on the porch enjoying the sun after our morning hike. And at night we sat on the porch and listened to the Town Hall Christmas music and lights display after dinner : )
Her house is so convenient, right off of Old Main St.! Most of our activities were within walking distance and most of the businesses on Main St. are dog friendly! There is a fantastic hiking trail very close by, our dog loved it. I wish we had gotten to explore the state park right down the road, but we opted to go on the Green Valley Train ride. It was absolutely worth it! There were plenty of great local restaurant options within walking distance also.
I can’t recommend Rita and her home enough. I actually wish we had been able to spend a few more nights with her. But I know the next time we are in the area, we will certainly stay with her. Even if you are exploring Sedona, Cottonwood is close enough that it would be well worth staying in this lovely town.
Rita herself is a very sweet, kind person. Thank you for making our vacation in the Sedona area a wonderful experience.
We stayed two nights in Rita's room and loved it! It was roomy, clean and wonderfully decorated. Both the bed and couch were very comfortable for sleeping. We highly recommend it as a great base for exploring Sedona, Jerome and Prescott. Old Town Cottonwood has lots of great shops and restaurants and is a lot more relaxing. We enjoyed meeting Rita and would certainly stay with her again.
This is a great space and Rita is so kind. We very much enjoyed our weekend retreat and the location requires that you never get in a car until heading back home.
I enjoyed my stay at Rita's place, it was the best deal of my trip. The room met all my needs and Rita seems like a nice person.
If I had anything negative to say it would be, sometimes it got a little hot but when I asked Rita to adjust the air conditioning, she did.
If I went back to that area, I wouldn't hesitate to stay there again.
We had a great time at Rita's place. Perfect location in old town with lots of nice restaurants and bars close by. There is so much to see in the area including Jerome and Sedona. The room is really spacious with a great bathroom and a comfy bed. The verandah is perfect for relaxing with a beer and a good book. Rita is really lovely and full of advice about where to go and what to see. We recommend her place to anyone needing a place to stay in Cottonwood.
This was our second stay at Rita's and we enjoyed it just as much as the first time. It's a unique experience you won't have staying anywhere else in the area - Rita's art and eclectic taste make the space funky and cozy, and the front porch is divine for relaxing on a hot day (in the shade all afternoon). Plus, you can walk a block or two for gelato at Crema Café or for a wine tasting at one of the numerous tasting rooms on Main St. As another reviewer mentioned, if you aren't quiet folk, this might not be the place for you as the room adjoins Rita's home.
We had a wonderful week in Rita's Room. The room is exactly as shown in the pictures, perfectly clean, and had everything we needed. It's very conveniently located, just a short walk to stores and restaurants, and a half-hour drive to Sedona. Rita had great suggestions for things to do and places to go, and she totally respected our privacy. I would highly recommend it for a single or couple.
This is a charming space and very clean and comfortable! Rita was very kind and we has some nice conversations. I really liked that it was one block from old town cottonwood. The patio is fabulous and I really enjoyed relaxing outside with a good book. The space is connected by a door as mentioned in the description which I didn't mind at all but if you are looking for total privacy this might not be the place for you. However, as a solo traveler I didn't mind at all. Thanks, Rita, the place is beautiful and well kept for. The shower is beautiful! I would stay here again!
PERFUECT: charming, quiet, cozy, creatively appointed, chock full of creature comforts.
Rita...thank you...thank you!
