  • Oh, this is really magical experience! The building itself is very exciting and then all the wild nature just around the house made our staying one of the best in costa rica! Be ready for an adventure:) i would definitely recommend this place!
Leanne, our host, she is wonderful lady! Whatever you will need-she knows where is the best and the most amazing places!

  • Stay here! This place is unbelievable. No picture will ever do it justice. The house itself is beautiful, but the location is what makes it. Delicious mangos everywhere, a 2 min walk to an incredible beach, and only a 5 min drive (or 20 min walk) into the very fun and funky town of Montezuma.

Like animals? Perfect. You will see howler monkeys and capuchin monkeys in your front yard. Agoutis, iguanas, geckos, hummingbirds, white tent bats (they're white, look em up), and a wild array of birds.

Also, Leanne (the property manager is the loveliest person, and was so available to us, and there when we needed her, but also not around if we didn't need her. She's the greatest.

My fiancé, our two friends, and I stayed 4 nights and it wasn't nearly long enough.

Cons? Only two. The toad to the house (for a few miles) is pretty rough, but that's Costa Rica (get a car with 4 wheel drive, rent through budget, bring a credit (NOT DEBIT) card, you'll be fine).
    2) not a con for us, but if you're not very outdoorsy or don't like bugs this place may not be for you. By no means is it crawling with bugs, but they're around. The house is designed in an amazing open way, you are very one with nature here, so if that scares you it might be good to look elsewhere.

Otherwise, book the place today, and for at least a week. I can't wait to go back.

  • We loved Casa de Jule! It was a really unique and unusual home, and we spent our days picking fresh mangoes, relaxing in the hammocks and exploring the gorgeous beaches and towns of Montezuma y Cabuya. The only disappointment was that the phone lines and WiFi were down the entire time; we came during rainy season (May) so due to storms there were issues. We went into town to use restaurants, etc for WiFi but that was the only issue. Other than that- wonderful home, it really is a lovers' paradise - I came as part of my honeymoon and I really think if you had more than a couple it would be close quarters - it works best just for 2. I recommend the place!

  • Our vacation to the Nicoya Peninsula was spectacular, and our stay at Case de Jule was truly a unique experience.

We appreciated Leanne's emails with information and advice leading up to our trip; she was waiting at the bus stop when we arrived to drive us to the house, and even drove us back to the bus stop at 5:30 am the following Sunday when there was no other way to get into Montezuma. At one point, the water went out at the house when a tree branch fell on the line, but her husband Ron was there within minutes and fixed the problem. They were easy to reach via phone or email if we needed anything and they were such a genuine, sweet and helpful couple.

We used the mosquito net on the bed for good measure, but saw no bugs or scorpions - just carpenter ants; our house felt clean and safe during our stay. The howler monkeys were loud, but we had no trouble sleeping. We awoke to the sound of monkeys and roosters, and ate breakfast outside watching the tropical birds and iguanas scampering around - it was quite a magical feeling.

There are many, many doors decorating this house, and you need them open to keep it cool, so we learned to leave extra time to lock up whenever we called for a taxi. The house is between Montezuma and Cabuya (5 km away from each), so it wasn't easy to get around without having a car of our own. Under Leanne's advisement, we called "Kevin" for a taxi who was always available, but it started to add up ($8-10 into town). So on the last day we opted to rent a 4-wheeler from "Peter" ($70 for 24 hours) so we could get ourselves around and see more of the peninsula. This was definitely the most exciting part of the trip - lots of people are on quads or motorcycles and it's the best means for getting a good view of what's around you. (We were offered mountain bikes from the property manager, but realized this would not be a safe and easy mode of transportation, due to the darkness and other vehicles on the road.)

The kitchen is great for making your own meals, but make sure you stock up at the grocery store in Montezuma. There were no spices, cooking oil, butter, etc. already in the kitchen - just cooking tools, pots & pans. But the tap water was clean and drinkable - a much appreciated luxury.

The layout of the space, the location of the beds & bathrooms, and with the spiral staircase being the only method for getting from floor to floor, it is best-suited for an adult couple.

Get some beans & tortillas at the market, rum for the blender, find the reggae station on the radio with an old-school hip hop show on Saturday night, and read a book in the hammock. It'll feel like home in no time.

  • Found - a place of magic and imagination. An artist-built house that thrives in the tropical paradise like the most unimaginable colourful bird or flower. This unusual house defies definition, and meets the natural world head-on in competition with the most colourful species of Costa Rica. Casa Jule somehow meets every luxury need while dissolving the definition of indoor and outdoor spaces.

This striking owner-designed/built house is situated in a private mango orchard with white-face and howler monkeys outside the windows and iguanas on the grounds. A surfing beach is located within walking distance, at the end of the lane way leading to the house.

Leanne, the property manager, met us in town and guided us to the house, where she walked us around and told us all we needed to know to enjoy our stay.

Each of the 3 floors provides stunning views of the property in all directions through huge balcony doors. The first floor includes a well equipped kitchen with large fridge, gas oven, coffee-maker (with complimentary coffee) and toaster. Outside the kitchen, through multiple large doors, is a spacious covered patio with wooden dining table and chairs, and a pair of hammocks. On the back side is a washing machine and an outdoor shower for rinsing off beach sand.

The second floor includes a large tiled tub/shower beside a large window overlooking the side sun-bathing area, and adjacent to a (covered) outdoor balcony bedroom. We were fortunate to be able to sleep here under a full moon, listening to the surf in the distance and the howler monkeys nearby, with bats and dragonflies patrolling overhead.

The third floor provides a second bedroom, that, although indoors, lets you take in the sights and sounds outside through balcony doors on 3 sides.

We had read that bugs (such as mosquitoes) could be a problem along the coast, but we encountered none during our March visit.

Fast DSL-based Wifi is provided, though you may have trouble receiving a signal on upper levels of the house through concrete floors.

The house is extremely private, set well back from the shoreline-road between Montezuma and Cayuba, and we rarely heard any vehicle noise. Cabo Blanco park is within easy driving distance, and during the dry season we were able to drive from Cayuba to Mal Pais in a small 4WD vehicle.

  • I'll never forget my experience staying at Casa De Jule. The house itself is a work of art. It was incredibly private and serene and well (website hidden) in the kitchen with the big doors open to the patio was a dream and the bathroom upstairs is unreal with a huge bathtub. Even the outdoor shower was always the perfect temperature. Sleeping on the outdoor bed under the stars was such a beautiful experience and I loved having the option of sleeping inside or out. The house even had a landline which was very helpful for calling taxis. We saw lots of monkeys hanging out on the property (howlers and capuchins) and the area it's situated in has a lot of great nature to explore. Joachim and his property manager Leanne were so helpful and kind and made sure we had everything we needed and then some. My partner and I spent a month visiting different towns along the Nicoya Peninsula but Montezuma and Casa De Jule will definitely stay in our minds as our favourite spot and we can't wait to visit again.

  • Casa del Jule is a fantastic funky place to hang out. The house is a work of art and the hosts Joachim and Leanne are very nice and quite helpful and knowledgable. We loved picking fresh fruit on the property and hanging out at the very quiet beach across the road. Would totally recommend staying here when in Montezuma.

  • Great location a short walk to the beach but far enough from the road to avoid the dust. The house is unique and charming but don't expect a Holiday Inn like place. The kitchen worked out well and eating on the porch was wonderful. We love sleeping in the bed on the open porch and looking at the stars. We saw no biting bugs (dry season) so sleeping out was great. It is in the trees and we had monkeys in the trees 15 feet from us and lots of birds. !It is almost exactly half way between Montezuma and Cabuya. We would love to go back.

  • This house was wonderful and exactly what we wanted! When house is advertised as "jungle house" they are not lying. Saw howler monkeys, white faced monkeys, iguanas, butterflies, and more! Leanne was extremely helpful and her recommendations, specifically Guillermo for surfing, were so helpful.

  • We had such a great time in Costa Rica and a wonderful stay at this lovely and unique home. Leanne was very helpful and knowledgeable. We arrived late in the evening after driving from Liberia airport - an adventure in itself as it is about a 5 hour trek, part of which is on a challenging beach/dirt road. Thankfully we were prepared thanks to Leanne's advice. Having a 4x4 vehicle really made a difference for our time there (though beware of companies that overbook at busy times - we nearly didn't get a car!). We spent a lot of time exploring the area and drove to Mal Pais / Santa Teresa a couple of times as well as to Cobano for groceries.
The house design is fun and practical. We felt connected to the outside world at all times. Cooked meals in a well-equipped kitchen and saw lots of creatures (lizards, monkeys, even a family of racoons who liked the smell of our dinner) while hearing many more.
The location was perfect for us, so close to a beautiful beach and not a far drive to either Montezuma or Cabuya, Leanne's recommendations were spot on (especially horseback riding with El Pinto, the hike up Los Cedros, and the Bakery in Cabuyo). I can't wait to return to this beautiful country.
