Andy and Jennie were great hosts, quickly answering questions about the property but also giving us our privacy. We had a great time at the cottage, which is exactly as described. The cottage itself has so much charm, and is full of comfy furniture and blankets to spare. The kitchen is well-appointed; we had all the things we needed for cooking. There's a binder full of info on local businesses and things to do as well as some notes on the cottage itself. Also a nice touch: a Little Free Library just a few feet away! The area itself is picturesque and quiet, a refreshing respite from the hustle and bustle of Bar Harbor.
The cottage was better than described! We had a wonderfully peaceful and comfortable stay for four nights in the heart of the Fall. The place is beyond clean. The kitchen was well supplied with all the equipment anyone would need. The bathroom had amenities we don't have at home! And the king bed in one of the bedrooms is one of our requirements, rarely offered through Airbnb. All instructions were clear and written out. (I can see our son and his wife and grandson coming up here for respite…I'll recommend!)

We absolutely loved staying in Spruce Cottage. The cottage is beautifully build, the atmosphere in the house is very cozy and comfortable and the house is located in a very nice spot near the sea on the quiet side of Mount Desert Island. Jennie & Andy are very welcoming and nice people and are the most perfect hosts. For instance, the first night we had some heavy rainfall and Andy challenged the rain to bring us a spare lamp in case the electricity would fall out (which it didn't by the way). How thoughtful! Overall a very good experience and if you are planning to go to Acadia, this is definitely the place to go!
My family and I booked Jennie and Andy's property for a few days to explore Acadia National Park and we could not be more satisfied! The cottage is beautiful and the surroundings are as well. The private driveway is one of my favorite parts! The cottage is well supplied and very clean, including a very cute patio area with a picnic table.
Pure delight in the woods, just as described. Lovely, solidly built cottage, easy to find and warmly welcomed. Excellent communication from our hosts. Big sleeping rooms, bigger common room, perfect retreat from a day hiking, as well as shelter from the storm (we were there for the back part of a hurricane). We are so pleased to have found the Spruce Cottage on the "quiet side" of the Island to serve as our home base to treat our young daughters to what Mt. Desert has to offer.

About the Host, Jennie & Andy
We are retired school teachers who now live in downeast Maine on Mount Desert Island which is home to Acadia National Park. We run a small cottage rental business on the "quiet side" of the island. Easily accessible by car, Acadia National Park is by far the most beautiful national park east of the Mississippi.
In the fall and spring Andy is a park tour guide and when not guiding, he is in his woodworking shop, gardening, golfing or playing tennis. Jennie is a mixed media artist, with a studio on site. Dabbling in stained glass, collage, sea glass, reusing and repurposing things from window frames, to fire starters to wool mittens from old sweaters. You never know what might be happening in the studio or shop. We cherish time with our children and 4 grandchildren (all under the age of 6.)
When we host you won't see much of us as we respect traveler's privacy. But we are a stone's throw away and will always connect by phone. We are happy to make suggestions for your island adventure, but suspect you will do your research before coming. We have notebooks in all of our houses with our favorite haunts, hangouts and hikes, as well as plenty of brochures, maps and guidebooks. we love sharing the island with visitors at any time of year, but spring, summer and fall are the best.
