Maggie’s Garden Home is located in West Culver City on the borders of Venice, Mar Vista, and Marina Del Rey, and just 10 minutes from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). The quiet residential neighborhood is a short walk away from shopping, Groceries both (conventional as well as farmers markets), entertainment, and great restaurants.
Via bicycle, travel west and check out the Marina and its slips full of beautiful sails and boats, Historic Venice Canals, crazy Venice Beach, or roll on down to “Abbot Kinney Dr.” to check out some hip stores for both window shopping as well as culinary delights! A mile further and you get to “Main Street” Santa Monica and its shopping and dining on the upper end! Going the other direction (East), go to Downtown Culver City and visit the arts district, Music, painting, sculpture, mixed media fine arts, are all waiting for you as well as some great spots to intrigue your curious pallet.
Los Angeles is BIG. Although it is not necessary, I usually recommend a rental car if you plan on seeing sights outside of a 5 mile radius. Museums are a plenty, Sporting events, historical landmarks and architecture, are all over this wide area we call Los Angeles, although local communities also carry a rich and varied list of hidden treasures.
About our rental house…..It is upstairs with a private entrance. Street parking is available and easily accessible. There is a small succulent garden and art on display by various artists. The pieces change as new selections come into our possession, and many of the pieces are for sale. As you walk up the stairwell the Strong Mountain Creative Studio is to your right just over the privacy fence. You may book time and paint or sculpt or create a mixed media piece while you are here, or watch as some art is created right in front of your eyes.
The deck is facing west for some great looks at the sunset. A couple of chairs await you and your favorite beverage.
Entering the living room, grab a book and enjoy the cozy fireplace or watch your favorite show on the 32” plasma TV with Apple TV. Don’t forget your laptop or I-Pad and use the Free Wi-fi connection to plan your next outing!
The cozy dining area is a great spot to enjoy some exotic dish from a local restaurant, or step into the little kitchen and whip something up on your own! (Give us your Grocery list before you arrive and we will have it waiting for you***) All the pots, pans, and utensils are there for your use. When you’re all filled up, let the dishwasher do the dirty work.
Enjoy a bubble bath in the original 1930’s cast iron tub. The rest of the bathroom has been rebuilt with new heated fan, lighting, porcelain floors and Kohler sink, commode and fixtures, but the floor plan and cabinetry has been kept the same to keep its old school charm.
Are you ready to have a good night sleep? How about a nap after traveling to get here? Step on into the bedroom where a Queen Sized Serta Natural Latex bed awaits your weary body. Press the remote and get a gentle massage or lift the feet and head and it will automatically adjust to relieve your pressure points. Wrapped in the highest quality Egyptian cotton sheets, and covered in non-allergenic fiber blankets and pillows you can slumber away or turn on the fireplace and the 32” Plasma TV and cozy up to watch a movie through Apple TV. Blu-ray player is available upon request.

Interaction with Guests
I always make it a point to meet my guests to give them a little tour and hand them the keys. Privacy is a great matter to us and our guests. I am happy to hang out with anyone staying at Maggie's Garden Home, and at the same time am willing to give up the time if they want the seclusion. As time goes by I "feel them out" so to speak, and I usually give them the option of the amount of privacy they would like.
Culver West is a bustling area of renewal! Just down the street there are numerous small restaurants that have just sprung up. Hip to casual, dirt cheap to high end. We are located a long block away from the main street (Washington Blvd.) in an area with single family dwellings. There are many young families of the upwardly mobile. Average home values for a 3bedroom 2 bath house on a 5000 sq. ft. lot are just under a million dollars. Multiple unit complexes are surrounding the area real estate agents refer to as the "Golden Triangle" due to its shape and high property values. You can walk to everything! Shopping, groceries as well as clothing are near. Movie theaters, high end stores, as well as street vendors, and carts of snacks. Ethnically diverse and fun, yet set in the quietness of a family focused neighborhood. It truly is a great place to live as well as visit!
Bus lines are a block away on Washington Blvd. Direct connection to downtown Culver City and the light rail train towards Downtown LA. Also a direct bus line to Marina Del Rey's "Fishermans Village" where you can pick up the "Star Tours" Double decker bus line for sightseeing. Cabbies are available, but the newer "Uber" service is catching on due to the great rates and friendly services offered by the local auto owner. Don't forget we rent beach cruisers! With the harbor only a mile away and Venice beach only 2.5 miles straight down Washington Blvd.!! Approximately 10 miles of bike path in both directions! If you rent a car or drive into town. Parking is ample right in front of the House. Airport pick up is available with prior notice. Pick up time are usually limited to 8am-9pm
Other Things to Note
As my wife and I travelled around the world, we found it hard to find "low allergen" places to stay. We will do our best to have the things you are allergic to removed before your arrival. That is one reason we offer feather free pillows and bedding, as well as ask for your allergy list before your arrival. Silk Flowers can be arrainged in place of the fresh one we customarily display. Cleaning is done with Dr Bronner's all natural soaps, and linen services are cleaned with fragrance free detergents. so if you have an allergy you can feel better about staying in a place that will be free of it!
No Smoking on the (website hidden) Pets. No overnight guests.Quiet times between 9pm-8am. No Candles, or open flame items, including incense. No changing, adding or alteration, of fixtures or making any fixture improvements.
Looking down you will see the sun cheerfully shining over baskets and pots of beautiful and curious plants.
Ross was extremely welcoming to me and my husband during our week-long stay at Maggie's Garden Home. From picking us up at the airport to offering us his fresh caught fish and even taking my husband out of the boat to do some fishing of his own, everything about Ross and our stay was fantastic.
The bed was extremely comfortable and the house was cozy and felt like home from the moment we stepped in.
We'll be back!
This is a great little spot. Ross was super nice an accommodating. The area is very accessible to many things on the West Side. The little patio area is great place to sit and drink your morning coffee. Very quiet neighborhood. I would definitely stay there again.
I had an absolutely fantastic stay in Maggie's Garden Home. Ross was such a kind and generous host, and the area is beautiful. Next time I'm in LA, I hope to stay here again! Thanks, Ross!
This is a great host and a great space. Comfy bed, solid nights sleep, able to create a dark room for sound sleep. Good location, close enough to walk to many stores, yet off the traffic area. Ross was a truly wonderful host -- generous and helpful, friendly and knowledgable. Another heater would be great (one wasn't working, as we were told as we were being shown around) -- should be fine now.
Fully equipped kitchen along with snacks and extras (in case you forgot something).
Maggie's Garden is such a beautiful place, words and pictures won't do it justice. It is centrally located- close to the freeway, the beach and plenty of shopping/restaurants. It's on a quiet street so you feel like you're not in LA, but in your own little paradise. I highly recommend opening the doors and windows if it's warm out because the light and breeze is seriously the best thing ever. The kitchen has everything you need to cook with. And the bed. Basically the comfiest thing I've ever slept on. Ross is the best host ever- he would bend over backwards for you. He's full of amazing stories and having grown up in the area, he knows where to go...and where to not go. I highly recommend this amazing Airbnb. It's making me a little sad just thinking about the time spent there. We will have to return soon!
After staying at Maggie's Garden Home for two and a half weeks I can honestly say this place is even better than all the enthusiastic reviews led me to expect! Ross was endlessly kind and accommodating, easy-going and fun to be around. The evening I arrived there was a set table, fresh Italian bread and wine, a big welcome basket with fruit, cheese and snacks, a sparkling bathroom and fresh sheets waiting for my tired bones. All that and he prepared a full dinner for me with Rockfish he'd caught that day. Several times during my stay, if he had been out fishing, he let me know there would be fresh fillets in my fridge. One day there was a whole red snapper in there, which was so delicious baked in the oven with just olive oil, salt and pepper. One day Ross, knowing I play guitar, brought me his lovely 1960’s Gibson acoustic to play at my leisure, and later lent me his amp and electric guitar. I felt like family. After a long day exploring the city or coming back from a show in Hollywood I would think of the super comfy bed, the peaceful garden terrace, the quietude, the coziness, and I'd be so thankful I chose to stay here. I’ve never slept so well away from home! I loved sitting on the porch with the guitar, watching the sunset and winding down. The neighborhood is safe and quiet, and it was no problem finding a parking spot right outside on the street anytime day or night. Traffic is relatively light, it’s super convenient to anywhere on the westside and Venice Beach is a really short, safe bike ride away. The housekeeper comes once a week and does an impeccable job cleaning. Ross never hesitated to share anything he thought might be of interest to me. I always looked forward to talking with him if he happened to be around, but he was very good about giving me plenty space to do my thing - I didn't ever feel like he was looming above me or lurking about. Also, he was great about communicating with me via text messages from the very start. He arranged and brought me on a tour of Asher Guitars, the neighborhood guitar builder, for free, wherein I was introduced to everyone in the shop and given the freedom to look around and try out any of Asher’s world class guitars in the showroom. It was one of the best trips of my life and Maggie's Garden Home truly helped make it so.
From the moment I inquired about staying at Maggie's, I knew this was going to be an awesome experience! Ross asked if we needed a ride from the airport, (who offers to drive in LA traffic?!!!) I knew we were in with some good folk. From the moment we turned the key in the front gate, the cleanliness and attention to detail was evident. The garden area and welcome sign were so appealing and the cottage itself is an immaculate work of art! The living room is comfortable and cozy with local artwork on the walls. Ross is an artist and has many artist friends. If you fall in love with a piece, just ask and you may be able to negotiate a way to take it home! He is the kind of host who is there if you need him or want to talk, and he also knows if you just want to be left in solitude.
The guest house itself--the kitchen has everything you could want to cook a meal. The dining room is romantic and whimsical, set for an intimate dinner for two. Ross prepared a welcome basket with fresh fruit and nuts and other delectable treats. It truly was fun exploring all he prepared for our comfort!
The bedroom felt like home, equipped with an adjustable bed and a TV well placed to enjoy from bed, if one so chooses. Lace curtains and art gave the bedroom a romantic and cozy feel. Ross is a brilliant artist and conversationalist. He knows the beach towns and beaches --just ask him where to surf or fish, if you want to do that! One evening, he brought us a dinner of fresh yellowtail sashimi that he and his wife prepared after his morning fishing expedition! Delicious and so kind to be included in enjoying his fresh catch of the day! Ross has a "book" of business cards that he has collected with restaurants and other useful places in the area. His attention to detail is amazing!
We had a wonderful, relaxing, private vacation here. We got to experience a different way of living and made two beautiful new friends. I would recommend Maggie's as a great place to stay!
About the Host, Ross
I grew up near the water. Swimming, surfing, fishing, and paddling with my Dad, Mom, two brothers and many friends. I have been so blessed, never worked for anyone, always had my own businesses. Restaurants, surfboard and skateboard Manufacturing, and Retail surf shops. Some were quite successful some weren't. I figure that's life. Now in my retirement I have been pursuing the things I have loved since my youth, music, art, woodworking, cooking, surfing, and fishing. I currently build custom fishing rods in my workshop, work part time at a guitar manufacturer, build decks, fences and custom gates for interested parties, paint in acrylics and carve wood in my art studio. I love life, and love to see others embrace it. Every year I try to travel abroad to surf a new destination with family and/or friends. I love my wife, as she supports our daughter and I, and has quite a career in mathematics. (That is something I don't think I'll ever understand.) I think people are interesting. cultures, music, styles, ways of thought. I feel comfortable around most people, but can respect privacy when needed. I don't like staying in Tourist spots when I travel, (I see enough Americans here!) but rather in local resorts where the locals hang out. I hope you get the feeling like your a local after a few days with us. So come for a visit, and enjoy life in Southern California!
