About this listing

Ideal for a deep sleep after a long flight into Shannon and a restful hub for visiting nearby attractions. The Wild Atlantic way, Cliffs of Moher, the Burren National Park and Bunratty Castle, Galway city and visiting other more distant sights are possible on a day trip. Just outside the door we have beautiful short walks, lakes, wonderful hiking trails where foxes, hares, badgers and other feral creatures are often spotted.

The space

Originally a small two roomed thatched cottage, this 200 yr old farm cottage was converted to a two story slate roof when emigrants of the 1800's sent money home. Many renovations later we have a large bathroom and kitchen however improvements are ongoing with this quaint old world house with a modern feel.
Enjoy cooking up your own breakfast without meat, please or have a light breakfast provided.
The cottage is my home however I'm often away visiting family, on request you could have the place to yourselves
The collage photos are credited to the talented Lou Endicott who created amazing images while staying at Druid cottage, next door.

Stephanie was a most gracious and welcoming host who made sure we were confortable and well informed. She was thorough and timely in her communications and was most helpful in acclimating us to the area. I would highly recommend her cottage for an authentic and enjoyable Ireland country experience.

Response from Stephanie:
Thank you Naz and Bob, they are very welcome comments especially as I was a little nervous hosting an Interior designer. I look forward to making a few little changes next spring and would love to visit your ranch in Connecticut some day! Happy travels.... :)

We had an outstanding weeklong stay at Steph's place. Because the Druid Cottage was already booked, Steph graciously agreed to rent us her place. Her whole house is imbued with the spirit of a Celtic artist and we loved the cozy atmosphere. It has a full kitchen, but we mostly used it for breakfast before heading out for the day. Across the road from her place is a roadside farm store that will even take orders for fresh bread to be delivered the following day. Communications with Steph were easy. Because both her house and cottage were rented, we didn't actually get to meet Steph but did meet the people who she had stop by to see if we were doing OK. We enjoyed the company of her two cats in the evening while reading by the warmth of the peat stove.

It was wonderful to experience the heart of the Irish countryside at Steph's beautiful cottage. Although it is hidden in a maze of small country roads, Steph's directions were clear and we had no trouble finding it. The beds were comfortable and the wifi worked perfectly, as did everything else. We loved sitting out in the courtyard on our one sunny day and curling up by the fire when it rained. The kitchen is large and has everything and the bath above the kitchen is very deluxe. The cottage comes with two lovely cats who love to come in for cuddles. One, Smudge, is born to be photographed and poses beautifully. We really felt at home. It was very easy and pleasant to communicate with Steph and Kate, who let us in, was a delightful young woman. We loved it and would definitely stay again.

This is a great place to stay, charming and beautifully decorated and Steph is a lovely host, kind and helpful. My room was pretty and the bed comfortable. Set in beautiful countryside, overlooking connemara ponies in a field. I found this a calm & inspirational place to be, with Steph, and her gossamer knitwear designs, the cottage and the setting. Thankyou Steph! x

Druid Cottage is quite simply the perfect getaway, and Steph the perfect host. I spent a delightful and productive week here getting some writing done and wandering around the area, interspersed with chats with Steph about life, the universe and everything. She was also kind enough to show me her exquisite work -- highly recommended. My chats with the cats were equally enjoyable. The weather was unseasonably cold so I'm afraid I went through quite a lot of peat logs, but the stove kept things nice and warm. Though I didn't do much exploring this time around, Glendree is an ideal jumping-off point for poking around Co. Clare and western Ireland, and a quick 40-minute jaunt from Shannon airport. Ideal all around. Will definitely be back!

We had a super relaxing few days at Steph's house. Steph was very helpful and friendly. And the house was cosy and peaceful - as well as being in the middle of a beautiful area. After travelling around County Clare during the day, it was great to come back to a house full of artwork and decorations, light a peat fire and enjoy being in the middle of the countryside!

We had a perfect holiday while staying at Stephs. She is so nice, caring and gives great tips about the area. The cottage was quaint and cozy with a nice little fireplace and everything one would need. The garden is a lovely place to sit in on a sunny day with pretty views, sweet cats, and a great place to take a walk. The location could not be better, it is nice and quiet but also centrally located to some of our favorite and most popular places on the west coast. Would love to go back!

A born wanderer from Dublin I settled in Clare to raise my children and immerse myself in rural life and textiles. I’ve enjoyed some world travel and today I love to wander from France to Ireland and back again, walking hills and coastal paths gathering inspiration for my work and enjoying locally produced organic food, and a good read by the fire at night. I also very much enjoy welcoming people to both my homes and offering help or advice on places to visit, allowing you your space as I appreciate mine.
