Glendree cottage self catering

House - Private room · Unnamed Rd, Glendree, County Clare, Ireland

The Space

Glendree Cottage was originally a small two roomed thatched cottage,it was converted to a two story slate roof when people who had emigrated in th e1800's sent money home. It has had many more renovations since including a large bathroom and kitchen. Improvements are ongoing, this year it has had the window glass replaced and presently in the process of painting inside and out!
The cottage is owner occupied, however you do have the place to yourselves, as I stay elsewhere when I have a booking. The Self catering includes that you have full use of one bedroom, living room with solid fuel burner, kitchen and large bathroom with solar heated water.
Although situated on a rural, scenic hillside the cottage is not so isolated as there are friendly neighbours near by in both directions. Also the sheds and land which surrround the cottage are visited briefly by farmer most days.
If you like quiet and need a space for reading, writing, study, research or simply need a rest after travelling then, this is the place for you.
The nearest shops and pubs are 6 miles away, in both directions There are two take Outs in Tulla and Pub Grub in Feakle.
Feakle is famous for it's Music Festival in August and the Pubs host local musicians throughout the year.
The house is 45mins from Shannon airport, 45 mins to Galway City, 40mins to Limerick City, 30 mins to larger towns like Ennis and Gort. The spectacular coast is 45 mins travelling through the scenic Burren National Park. Hill walking is everywhere as are fishing, horse riding, pubs, golf, boating and lots more to be discovered.
Public transport is very limited, car hire or own transport is recommended.
The 9 photos at the end of gallery are credited to the talented Lou Endicott who created amazing images while staying at Druid's cottage, next door..

  • It was wonderful to experience the heart of the Irish countryside at Steph's beautiful cottage. Although it is hidden in a maze of small country roads, Steph's directions were clear and we had no trouble finding it. The beds were comfortable and the wifi worked perfectly, as did everything else. We loved sitting out in the courtyard on our one sunny day and curling up by the fire when it rained. The kitchen is large and has everything and the bath above the kitchen is very deluxe. The cottage comes with two lovely cats who love to come in for cuddles. One, Smudge, is born to be photographed and poses beautifully. We really felt at home. It was very easy and pleasant to communicate with Steph and Kate, who let us in, was a delightful young woman. We loved it and would definitely stay again.

  • This is a great place to stay, charming and beautifully decorated and Steph is a lovely host, kind and helpful. My room was pretty and the bed comfortable. Set in beautiful countryside, overlooking connemara ponies in a field. I found this a calm & inspirational place to be, with Steph, and her gossamer knitwear designs, the cottage and the setting. Thankyou Steph! x

  • Druid Cottage is quite simply the perfect getaway, and Steph the perfect host. I spent a delightful and productive week here getting some writing done and wandering around the area, interspersed with chats with Steph about life, the universe and everything. She was also kind enough to show me her exquisite work -- highly recommended. My chats with the cats were equally enjoyable. The weather was unseasonably cold so I'm afraid I went through quite a lot of peat logs, but the stove kept things nice and warm. Though I didn't do much exploring this time around, Glendree is an ideal jumping-off point for poking around Co. Clare and western Ireland, and a quick 40-minute jaunt from Shannon airport. Ideal all around. Will definitely be back!

  • We had a super relaxing few days at Steph's house. Steph was very helpful and friendly. And the house was cosy and peaceful - as well as being in the middle of a beautiful area. After travelling around County Clare during the day, it was great to come back to a house full of artwork and decorations, light a peat fire and enjoy being in the middle of the countryside!

  • We had a perfect holiday while staying at Stephs. She is so nice, caring and gives great tips about the area. The cottage was quaint and cozy with a nice little fireplace and everything one would need. The garden is a lovely place to sit in on a sunny day with pretty views, sweet cats, and a great place to take a walk. The location could not be better, it is nice and quiet but also centrally located to some of our favorite and most popular places on the west coast. Would love to go back!

Born in Dublin I moved to Co.Clare in 1979 to create a small holding and emerse myself in my passion for textiles. Working from my home studio as a designer / maker with my own lable Saolré (lifecycle). I also love hill walking and especially like the atlantic coastline, stopping to catch images on my camera, which later translate into a design through the use of luxuriously soft natural yarns. I've managed to leave this beautiful green isle many times to visit far distant places and 'Druid Cottage' also enables me to meet interesting people from all over..I also like my home comforts especiallyI like being curled up by a wood fire on a winters night enjoying good book or company of friends. Druid cottage is a great spring board from where you can sample the wonderful scenary of Co. Clare and beyond or simply relax and enjoy what the nearby area has to offer while catching up on the reading, writing or sleep that you need to do. If you are (website hidden) to this page from another place you need to scroll down till you see Druid cottage on the left of the screen, then click on it and all will be revealed. Bye for now
