Interaction with Guests
We make warm introductions and then leave our guests in peace. We do our best to be home when our guests arrive, and always introduce ourselves when we return home if we were absent at their arrival.
Quiet, rural feel but close to town. Our neighbor's donkey J.J. creates a wonderful ambiance when added to the background cacophony of our own goats, chickens and turkeys.
Bus stop is considered by some as "within walking distance", but you would do best in Taos with your own vehicle.
Absolutely no smokers or smoking of anything in apartment!
No pets. We are keeping this rental pet-free to support allergy sufferers. We have pets on the property, but not in the apartment.
We will always be as conscious of keeping a quiet environment for our guests as possible and ask the same in return. We do, however, share a wall with the apartment so you may at times hear our 5 year old, or our coffee grinder.
This listing can not accommodate more than 4 very cuddly people. Best for 1-3 friendly adults or maximum of 2 adults and 2 children. We will try to provide a shoe horn if you are a family of 4.
If stay is longer than 2 weeks, a $70 cleaning deposit will be added, in addition to the cleaning fee ($35) already included in the price. After cleaning of rental is completed, some or all of this deposit may be refunded, depended on time taken to clean. Most cleaning supplies are provided in apartment. Owners are happy to loan out their vacuum to guests if desired.
This spot is a gem. First of all, it's an organic farm with chickens, goats, turkeys and a massive, friendly livestock guard dog. Suuuuper cool. Second, there is a beautiful organic garden in raised beds with all kinds of veggies growing. This in the desert of Taos, NM. I slept better my last two nights here than I have in my own home. It's peaceful, quiet, clean and incredibly comfortable. MacLaren is a fantastic host, and was happy to show me and my mother around the garden (my mom is a goat fan) and chat with me while we picked beans. She also gave me tons of privacy. This place is just a couple of miles from downtown Taos and it really enhanced my stay in town.
We were looking for peace and quiet in a tranquil setting. And we found it here. Thanks!
What an amazing experience and introduction to Taos. This home was perfect for our family (including our 3-year-old daughter). We had fresh eggs, bread, yogurt and cheese from the farm, enjoyed the opportunities to learn about the farm and meet the animals. My daughter still asks to go back to 'the farm'.
This would be perfect for anyone traveling to Taos for skiing, rafting, mountain biking and more. The hosts are long-time Taos residents that know all about what the area has to offer.
The home was perfect appointed (including organic coffee for our first morning!) and was a comfortable and enjoyable place to stay. The hosts we're warm and inviting - we couldn't ask for more.
We had a great time staying here. The house was quaint and conveniently located just a short drive to Taos. We also enjoyed getting to see the animals and to learn about MacClaren's sustainable lifestyle. The goat milk was great, too. I definitely recommend staying here.
Our stay was amazing! The apartment was cozy, beautiful, and clean. The apartment was a short drive from the center of Toas, but still tucked away in peaceful scenery.
MacLaren was so gracious ans warm. We did not have much time to visit with her, but learned so much in the short time that we did, she is truly inspirational!
Our girls (5 and 6) loved interacting with the Scott family and learning about the farm animals, and we loved learning about organic farming as well!
We purchased eggs, kale, Kiefer, goat milk, and goat cheese from MacLaren and it was some of the best we had.
We would recommend staying here to anyone.
We loved our week long stay with MacLaren, Randy and Isla. The apartment was charming and clean. It was the perfect place for us and my 81 year old Mother. Mom made herself right at home (which is unusual), decided she would take the bedroom with the big comfy bed, large closet and the best view in the house. She got so comfortable it was difficult to get her to leave and go into town!
The kitchen was small but organized very well and I had no problem cooking our meals. We got delicious eggs from their chickens, kale from their garden and Isla provided the yummy kefir popsicles.
MacLaren and Randy were the perfect hosts - welcoming, friendly and informative. Isla was a delight! She was very attentive and helpful and made sure we had some of her beautiful art to decorate the house.
We would definitely recommend this sweet little farm!
MacLaren and her husband have a beautiful home ! The accommodations were superb! Beautiful and private with the mountains in the horizon. But the best part of her apartment is her incredible farm and her warm personality. We were lucky enough to be given a small tour of her farm which includes goats and turkeys. We even sampled some of the goat products -- incredible! We would recommend her home if your ever in Taos!
I (MacLaren) am a stay-at-home mother of our adorable 3 yr old daughter, Isla. In my previous life I was a house designer, specializing in off-grid, natural built homes. My husband, Randy, is a park manager for the BLM (Bureau of Land Management) in the Lower Rio Grande Gorge. We live on a small farm where we raise chickens, turkeys, bees, milking goats, have a large garden, and a young fruit orchard. The remainder of our family includes our loving rescue Pyrenees, Molly, One-eyed Murphy the pirate cat, and Zachy, the shy gray tabby. We enjoy caring for our farm, eating locally, and engaging in many outdoor pursuits, including white water rafting and canoeing, camping, skiing, mountain biking, hiking, etc. (Isla wants us to add that SHE enjoys sliding boards, swings, her chickens, her pets, and rafting.)
