Spare room with two twin trundle beds in WestLake Hills area. You'll need your own transportation out this way, but it's a beautiful drive and honestly not any longer than you'll spend in the car in gridlock highway traffic from other parts of Austin
We live in a 2/1 house, and we sometimes rent out our spare bedroom. The house is in the "foothills" of the Hill Country--really nice scenery. We have a big backyard and a twin sized bed with a second trundle bed under it. The bathroom is beautiful. There is wireless internet as well as a fine collection of classic video game systems you are welcome to play. We can provide sheets and towels and advice. We love to host!
We have four cats. They're wonderful cats, but this probably isn't the place for you if you're severely allergic. We have a super-duper Austin Air brand filter in the spare room, so if you're just slightly allergic, you'll be fine at night.
The drive to downtown is a very pretty 25/30 minutes (35/40 with traffic), and we can tell you a really pleasant shortcut as well as parking tips for SXSW and other Austin events. It's about a 45 minute drive without major traffic to the Formula One racetrack.
You are welcome to use our fridge/kitchen and washer/dryer. We don't have cable on our TV, but if you're here for SXSW, your entertainment needs are probably being met.
As much or as little as you want. I (Carrie) work at home currently so I'm around to ask stuff, but I respect privacy and a need to be alone for sure because I have that need myself when traveling.
It's a great neighborhood for biking and walking around. It's less than a mile to the "lake" front.
Unfortunately, the West Lake neighborhood (rich folks) is between us and downtown so this is the one corridor of Austin with no public transport currently or planned.

Not much to say really, Carrie and her husband were very welcoming and I thank them for letting me stay in their home during SXSW. I mostly spent my days (and late nights) in downtown Austin and only slept at their place just to crash for a few hours LOL.
It's probably important to add she was very accommodating and even put an air filter in my room.
