The Space

Drenched in sunlight and fifteen minutes from the beach, Mango Cottage is a Bali inspired retreat nestled on the slope of the now dormant volcano, Hualalai. The house has a large private yard filled with tropical plants, fragrant flowers, outdoor sitting areas and private hot tub. It is situated on a quiet single lane in a peaceful old neighborhood, complete with meandering turkeys and the wild parrots that occasionally visit the adjacent mango tree.

From the door of Mango Cottage to the crystal waters of Kua Bay is a 15-minute drive and another few minutes delivers you to the renowned beaches of the Kohala Coast. It’s just a quick 10-minute drive to Kailua-Kona where you will find supermarkets, a natural foods store, restaurants and other trappings of “Town.” There is much to explore from this central location and we are happy to share our life-long local knowledge.

Mango Cottage has been restored with new flooring, many windows, an efficient kitchen, and a lanai for relaxing outdoor living. Float in the hot tub and enjoy the Hawaiian starry night. The lush gardens surround the home and the feeling of separateness between outdoors and in is minimal. Mango Cottage is gated and private, offers WiFi, a dishwasher, and a flat screen TV. A washer and dryer are available and in-house maid service is available upon request during your stay. The bedding and queen size mattress, including the additional single day bed in the living room, are high quality for a comfortable sleep amidst the tropical breezes and sounds of the distant water feature. Views from the house include the ocean and a park like setting, perfect to witness the green flash moment.

The concept of the space is to provide a totally serene indoor/outdoor experience with all the luxury of good, comfortable design mixed with Indonesian antiques and art. It is perfect for your Hawaiian vacation and to re-charge all of your senses… enjoy!

  • We stayed 4 glorious nights at the Mango Cottage. It's a beautiful slice of sanctuary boasting a hot tub, comfortable lanai, amazing views of the coastline and sunsets as well as gorgeous grounds with fruit trees. It was a sad day when we had to leave Mango Cottage for Hilo. Christine and Bobby were fantastic and we can't recommend Mango Cottage enough. You won't be disappointed!

  • We had a delightful week in this lovely, well stocked, quiet cottage. . It is in a residential neighborhood with helpful owners just above the cottage who are there to help with advice on where to go or what to do for the day. The hot tub was delightful at the end of the day. We plan to come again.

  • We loved our first stay at Mango Cottage so much we decided it would be the perfect place to spend our honeymoon. And really, it doesn't get better than this.

Christine and Bobby are simply amazing hosts. On our arrival we found a gift of ice cold sparkling wine and a slice of decadent lilikoi cheesecake, along with some beer and fresh fruit. Everything you could hope for your stay, they have provided for you. The bar is set so high on your stay at Mango Cottage, I can't imagine you'd find any place better on the big island.

Again, I can't recommend this place highly enough and we hope to make it back for a third time soon.

    Mahalo, Christine and Bobby!

  • We had a lovely stay at the Mango Cottage! The property is so private that it felt like we had our own home overlooking Kailua-Kona. The cottage had everything that we needed, was spotlessly clean, quiet: the perfect place for eating meals on the beautiful front deck while plotting our next adventure on the Big Island! We very much appreciated the fully equipped kitchen, and coolers so that we could take our lunches with us. And Christine and Bobby were so kind in helping us when we locked ourselves out of the cottage :-)

  • I would give more than 5 stars if it allowed me to do so. The cottage is truly unbelievable for the location, amenities and pure value of feeling at home. Bobby got us situated in nicely with cold beers in the fridge waiting on our arrival. The house is situated on a beautiful piece of property, with a lanai where we spent most of our time when we were at the house. Chairs and benches placed on the lawn we used at night to see all the stars we can't see in California. A view to die for. Close proximity to downtown Kailua and convenient to all the major hwys/roads. They have thought of everything that you have forgotten at home. We will stay again, my husband already is talking about coming back in February.

    Mahalo again for the hospitality!!!

  • This place is truly a, and will be your, private paradise.
You drive through the gate and you step into a world that will ease you into relaxation.
And the best thing is, that you'll feel at home right away.
It is absolutely wonderful and perfect for a romantic get away.
You will find all you need and maybe a little bit more, from snorkeling gear to pepper and salt.
Christine & Bobby are fantastic hosts and we are so thankful that they created this paradise that we feel so lucky now to have gotten the chance to enjoy for one week.
I highly recommend the Mango cottage to my friends and family and would ALWAYS come back.
After staying at Mango cottage, you will understand what Hawaii is all about.
I can't thank you enough Christine & Bobby.

  • What an amazing place to stay and Christine and Bobby go out of their way to make you feel welcome.
We arrived late at night and Christine had left some snacks and wine as well as fresh fruit for us.
The cottage is very clean and very comfortable. We spent lots of time in the hot tub at night staring at the stars.
Each morning Christine and Booby would leave some type of tropical fruit on the stairs for us to try.
I would highly recommend Mango Cottage and will definitely be going back on my next trip to Hawaii

  • WOW!! this cottage was absolutely incredible! Christine was lovely and had gone to the effort of getting wine and beer for us which were waiting when we arrived. The cottage was a perfect base for exploring the Big Island and was so well equipped. Christine and Bobby had really thought of everything! We also enjoyed the hot tub and it was really handy having the use of a washer and dryer. This has been one of the best places that we have ever stayed and we would definitely recommend it and if we are ever back in Hawaii we will hopefully be able to stay here again! Thank you Christine and Bobby!

  • This is the BEST accomodation my husband and I have ever stayed in. Everything you need is supplied, the accomodation is very private and overall has a fantastic feel (you feel relaxed as soon as you walk through the door). Christine and Bobby were also great hosts and very friendly. We also enjoyed looking at the stars from the hot tub most nights! I couldn't recommend this place highly enough. We loved it! Thank you Christine and Bobby!

We have lived in Kona for thirty-five years and have called Kohanaiki Road home for many of those. Our property has been a labor of love and we are delighted to offer the cottage as a vacation rental. My husband and I are now retired and spend much of our time in the garden, walking our dogs, creating jewelry, or traveling to California to visit our grandchildren.
