The garden studio apartment is set in its own private little court yard. The apartment is cosy and comfortable, it is perfect for relaxing in after a days sightseeing or work. I provide a generous welcome pack, which includes breakfast/lunch items and a bottle of wine. Private entrance for guests. The village is a 10 min drive to Cork City, 10 min to Fota and 2 mins to Little Island. There is a good pub and an award winning local shop/deli/bakery and bus / train station close by.

The space

My family and I have lived in the beautiful old waterside village of Glounthaune for many happy years, it is just off the N25 motor way. Recently we converted our art studio~gallery at the rear of the house into a very comfortable large private double studio apartment which is suitable for holiday guests and also perfect for visiting corporate guests, we have an excellent internet connection. There is a kitchen with cooking facilities, breakfast /lunch food stuffs and a bottle of wine. There is also a washing machine and dryer. A shower room (large shower space) with shampoo etc plus hair dryer. I provide a travel cot for those traveling with a baby! There is free parking just outside our gate which is always available for guests. We are just off the N25 motor way, and on the Cork City~Cobh~Midleton Train line, bus stops at the village, perfect for guests that do not have a car. The cosy private space is enclosed by a stone courtyard with an abundance of colourful planting which is very pleasant to sit out and relax in. The courtyard is accessed through a wooden door. The apartment is furnished in a vintage country style, with pieces that I have collected and refurbished for your pleasure. The art work on the walls is done by myself, friends and family. The
double bed has a good quality mattress and is surrounded by a Victorian frame. The apartment is very comfortable, and a peaceful place to hang out in, summer or winter. Should one just wish to stay put, there is a good selection of breakfast/lunch/tea nibbles, lots of books, tv & dvd, eclectic selection of dvd's & cd's , there is a large information pack for local and city sights and off the beaten track things to do in general. The kitchen has a sink (instant hot water) fridge, two plate hob, microwave, mini electric oven, small freezer, kettle, toaster, washer & dryer. The shower room has a large electric shower unit, wc, sink, towels, shampoo & shower gel. There are electric heaters through out the well insulated apartment. Electric Blanket all year round! The apartment is perfect for a Summer or a Winter break.

Glounthaune Village is a small historic village/hamlet with no through road, Cork estuary lapps against its key walls. The village is accessed over an old railway bridge from the main road. The village is always beautifully kept by the villagers, and is especially lovely in Spring & Summer when so many flowers and shrubs are in bloom. We have a park with outdoor gym equipment, and a playground in the village by the water's edge, a tidal estuary one minute from the house, the park is lovely for a stroll and the playground wonderful for small children.

There is a wonderful shop ~ delicatessen (Fitzpatricks) within a few minutes walk east of the village, the local pub is beside the shop. The multi award winning restaurant 'The Elm Tree' is a four minute drive away.

We are within 10 minutes walking distance of Glounthaune train station which is linked to the main Cork City Kent Station, 10 minutes & 2 stops away. The trains run every 30 minutes. Discover East Cork.......
Fota Island Hotel & Spa (amazing!) Golf Club, Wild Life Park & House (beautiful!) only 10 minutes away (lovely short train journey )Historic Cobh 15 minutes away, Midleton with historic distillery 15 minutes away, Little Island just
5 minutes (very convenient for visiting staff). Undiscovered Barryscourt Castle 10 minutes. Ballymaloe House & Cookery School 30 minutes away, Historic Youghal also 30 minutes away. All of Co. Cork, Co. Waterford & Co.Kerry are easily accessible by car from our home as we live just a few minutes from major road arteries. Into Cork City and the Jack Lynch tunnel (See map on site) is just a few minutes away.

Guest access

Our guests have access to the court yard & garden apartment by a side entrance of the main house, from the village. The court yard is covered in climbing plants and flowers, it is a nice area to sit out and relax in weather permitting! Guests are also very welcome to use the BBQ. Our guests are also welcome to use the washing machine and dryer which are both in the kitchenette.

There is a TV (only for dvd' at the moment), lots of local information,Books, CD's & DVD's in the Apartment. Very Good Internet Access.

Interaction with guests

I am a members of Airbnb since July 2014. I love to meet people and enjoy having guests come to stay. Having traveled frequently in Europe I have always appreciate a warm comfortable bed and a genuine welcome , usually in Airbnb's and agri tourism accommodation. I now have the chance to do the same for my guests here in Cork. I am an easy going person and the atmosphere here is very relaxed. It would be my wish that all guests feel comfortable and happy during their stay. I work from home so am usually on hand in the main house for any help, advice or a chat at any time.

Other things to note

A generous welcome pack is provided for guests on arrival, this includes tea, coffee, bread, cereals, jams, nuts, butter, milk, water, juice, yogurts, cold meat & cheese. When I travel I like privacy at breakfast time especially, so I thought providing the pack in the apartment was a good idea which would afford that same privacy to my guests, in saying that I am usually around the main house, as I work from home. If guests need advice or just have a chat I am always happy to be there for you.

On a\the fine day! it is nice to open up the double doors of the garden studio and have breakfast in the court yard. There is a wonderful delicatessen and a 'pub pub' 5 minutes walk down the road, they show sporting activities on the TV and have music at the weekends.

Jacqueline's garden studio is a lovely peaceful respite from the bustle of nearby Cork. You will find everything you need to have a perfect stay. The furnishings and decorating touches were selected with care. We felt right at home. We overestimated how long it would take us to arrive from the airport so she wasn't quite ready for us but this gave us time to have a very enjoyable conversation getting to know each other. The weather was damp so we didn't spend evenings sitting in the garden but still enjoyed looking at it. Jacqueline made a point to check with us during our stay to make sure everything was going well. It took us a little longer to drive into Cork than expected (because of 1 way streets the drive back was quicker). However, it was faster and easier to get to Kinsale and the Jameson Distillery because we were already outside of Cork. Our visit was timed for the 38th Annual Cork Music festival. If you enjoy trad sessions music I highly recommend it (should be held late September/early October each year). The best parking we found was at Q-Park Grand Parade as it is open 24/7 and offers after 5PM parking for 6 Euros. Theoretically Cork offers free parking on Sundays but it was busy and crowded everywhere so we were not successful finding free parking spots. This was our first ever Airbnb experience and Jacqueline made it a memorable one. I highly recommend Jacqueline's studio if you're visiting Cork and the surrounding area.

Great spot, close to train into Cork and other shore towns. Jacqueline has decorated the cottage with a lot of her art, so it's extra personal. The garden patio is private and relaxing. We loved our time there and will return. Thank you, Ron & Debbie

Jacqueline has created such a lovely place for weary travelers. We were so comfortable there and the space is beautiful both inside and out. Gounthaune is a wonderful place to stay. It's out of the way and less crowded but close to some wonderful sites like Midleton and Cork. We didn't take the train but the station is just a walk down the street. You can also find a pub and shop just down the street. The space had a wonderful shower, very comfortable bed, plus a kitchenette, and tv with a library of dvds and books. She was an excellent Hostess and I highly recommend staying there. It's magical ☺️

Jacqueline was so amazing. Her place is very cozy and feels like home. She is a wonderful person and so accommodating. The only slight drawback is that the place is too far to walk into Cork.

Jacqueline is everything you want in a host. She provided a comfortable, quiet, beautiful studio with wine, cheese, and fruits on arrival. She gave us recommends and even offered to drive us to one of our destinations that was out of the way. I would love to return some day.

Jacqueline is a wonderful host with a wonderful cottage. Private, quiet, and walking distance from the train to Cork and a number of other locations. The cottage was clean and stocked with bits and even a bottle of wine for us. We were very comfortable during our entire stay. Jacqueline was accommodating of our travel delays and even brought us into Cork on a Sunday for a tour before the trains were running so that we didn't need to order a taxi. The location may be better suited for those traveling by car (once you factor in the walks to and from train stations at each end); however, we knew exactly what we were getting into so we had no issues at all.
