The space

My family and I have lived in the beautiful old waterside village of Glounthaune for many happy years, it is just off the N25 motor way. Recently we converted our art studio~gallery at the rear of the house into a very comfortable large private double studio apartment which is suitable for holiday guests and also perfect for visiting corporate guests, we have an excellent internet connection. There is a kitchen with cooking facilities, breakfast /lunch food stuffs and wine. There is also a washing machine and dryer. A shower room with shampoo etc plus hair dryer. I can provide a travel cot for those traveling with a baby! There is free parking just outside our gate which is always available for guests. We are just off the N25 motor way, and on the Cork City~Cobh~Midleton Train line, perfect for guests that do not have a car. The cosy private space is enclosed by a stone courtyard with an abundance of colourful planting which is very pleasant to sit out and relax in. The courtyard is accessed through a wooden door. The apartment is furnished in a vintage country style, with pieces that I have collected and refurbished for your pleasure. The art work on the walls is done by myself, friends and family. The queen size bed has a good mattress with electric blanket which is surrounded by a Victorian frame. The apartment is very comfortable, and a peaceful place to hang out in, summer or winter. Should one just wish to stay put, there is a good selection of breakfast/lunch/tea nibbles, lots of books, tv & dvd, eclectic selection of dvd's & cd's , there is a large information pack for local and city sights and off the beaten track things to do in general. The kitchen has a sink (instant hot water) fridge, two plate hob, microwave, mini electric oven, small freezer, kettle, toaster, washer & dryer. The shower room has a large electric shower unit, wc, sink, towels, shampoo & shower gel. There are electric heaters through out the well insulated apartment. Electric Blanket all year round! The apartment is perfect for a Summer or a Winter break.

Glounthaune Village is a small historic village/hamlet with no through road, Cork estuary lapps against its key walls. The village is accessed over an old railway bridge from the main road. The village is always beautifully kept by the villagers, and is especially lovely in Spring & Summer when so many flowers and shrubs are in bloom. We have a park with outdoor gym equipment, and a playground in the village by the water's edge, a tidal estuary one minute from the house, the park is lovely for a stroll and the playground wonderful for small children.
The friendly award winning Rising Tide Bar~ Restaurant in the village serves morning coffee, lunch and evening dinner including an early bird menu, is also good for a pint or a glass of wine! ( So sorry the Rising Tide is closed for the moment, I will let you know when it re opens!)
There is a wonderful shop ~ delicatessen (Fitzpatricks) within a few minutes walk east of the village.

We are within 10 minutes walking distance of Glounthaune train station which is linked to the main Cork City Kent Station, 10 minutes & 2 stops away. The trains run every 30 minutes. Discover East Cork.......
Fota Island Hotel & Spa (amazing!) Golf Club, Wild Life Park & House (beautiful!) only 10 minutes away (lovely short train journey )Historic Cobh 15 minutes away, Midleton with historic distillery 15 minutes away, Little Island just
5 minutes (very convenient for visiting staff). Undiscovered Barryscourt Castle 10 minutes. Ballymaloe House & Cookery School 30 minutes away, Historic Youghal also 30 minutes away. All of Co. Cork, Co. Waterford & Co.Kerry are easily accessible by car from our home as we live just a few minutes from major road arteries. Into Cork City and the Jack Lynch tunnel (See map on site) is just a few minutes away.

Guest access

Our guests have access to the court yard & garden apartment by a side entrance of the main house, from the village. The court yard is covered in climbing plants and flowers, it is a nice area to sit out and relax in weather permitting! Guests are also very welcome to use the BBQ. Our guests are also welcome to use the washing machine and dryer which are both in the kitchenette.

There is a TV (only for dvd' at the moment), lots of local information,Books, CD's & DVD's in the Apartment. Very Good Internet Access.

Interaction with guests

We are members of airbnb since July 2014. We love to meet people and enjoy having guests come to our home. Having traveled frequently in Europe we have always appreciate a warm comfortable bed and a genuine welcome in the places we have stayed, usually b&b's oagri tourism accommodation. We now have the chance to do the same for our guests here in Cork. Both of us are easy going people and the atmosphere here is very relaxed. It would be our wish that all our guests feel comfortable and happy during their stay. I work from home so am usually on hand in the main house for any help, advice or a chat at any time.

The neighborhood

We live in a small local community in the country side but within easy reach of the city. It is a wonderful sanctuary but when a bit of hustle & bustle is called for Cork City is only 10 minutes away, very handy for shopping, eating in our wonderful restaurants, and for festivals and events. The tidal estuary is literally on our door step. There are many great beaches and wonderful places to visit within half an hour's drive east and west.
East Cork is well worth exploring, Fota Golf Club which hosted the Irish Open Summer 2014 is a few minutes away also the World Famous Jemeson Brewery is down the road. East Cork is not as well known as West Cork but has its own particular beauty and interest, including its beaches, historic interests and culinary status. Well worth exploring!

Getting around

I would recommend having a car, as at present our wonderful Rising Tide Bar Restaurant is closed, however there is a great local bar (music at weekends) and an award winning shop five minutes walk from the appartment, for other restaurants in the area it is good to have a car but not necessary to enjoy your stay with us, there is a great train service within 10 minutes walking distance of the house , Glounthaune station. Should you need a lift from the station I am always on hand to collect. This train goes to and from Cork City Kent Station every half hour, with links nationwide. Also East to Carrigtwohill, Midleton, Fota Wild Life Park, Fota Golf Club Hotel & Spa and Cobh can be reached by our local train. There is also a great Central Bus Station in the city, Parnell Place Bus Station, which services all areas of the city, county and country. There is a bus stop at the top of the village which is time tabled. Church, post-office, flower shop and hairdresser only 2 minutes walk.

Other things to note

A generous welcome pack is provided for guests on arrival, this will include tea, coffee, bread, cereals, jams, nuts, butter, milk, water, juice, yogurts, cold meat & cheese. When we travel we like our privacy at breakfast time especially, so we thought providing the pack in the apartment was a good idea which would afford that same privacy to our guests, in saying that I am usually around the main house, as I work from home. If guests need advice or just have a chat I am always happy to be there for you.

On a\the fine day! it is nice to open up the double doors of the garden studio and have breakfast in the court yard. The Rising Tide bar~ restaurant across the street is really good for morning coffee, lunch, dinner, a drink,(sorry closed at present) also there is a wonderful delicatessen and a 'pub pub' 5 minutes walk down the road, they show sporting activities on the TV.

Jacqui's place is just gorgeous. We wanted to spend a few days relaxing in Co Cork, which is just what we got- a beautiful garden studio tucked away from the world, but still easily accessible and walkable to the train which takes you right to Cork. Jacqui was friendly, helpful and fun- seriously the most generous host and we loved her! She stocked the kitchen with snacks and breakfast foods, and the cottage has dvds, wifi, cds, seriously everything you could ever need for a few days of relaxation in Ireland. There's a general store and a pub within 5 minutes walking distance too. We can't wait to come back!

Jacqueline place is amazing! The only thing rival her studio was her friendlyness and her fantastic service! The location could not be any better. 10 mins drive to cork city and a few steps away from the local train station that can bring you to the city if you are not traveling by car. The scenery is stunning and relaxing, you can sit by the sea and let the stress flow away. I would highly recommend this to anyone coming to visit cork.

Jacqui was an excellent host, very friendly and caring. Her place was cute, cozy, and provided everything we needed and more. She welcomed us and spent a little time to help us get our bearings both around the cottage and the local area. The kitchen was stocked with drinks and breakfast items. We loved having amenities like the washer/dryer, hair dryer, books/movies, and kitchen appliances. The heating units, electric blanket, and hot water all worked well and kept us very warm. The area was easy to get around on foot and by bus or taxi, but may be best with a car. Jacqui really went above and beyond to make sure we enjoyed our stay. Before booking, know that the cottage is in very close proximity to the host's house, but there is plenty of privacy. The village is outside the main city, but houses there are very close together, so you may hear sounds from neighbors. Anything you need, Jacqui will be very easy to communicate with and will make you feel very cared for.

The garden gallery cottage is comfortable, cozy, and romantic. It is a private setting with cd's, TV ,wifi, vintage furnishings and a garden patio. It is the perfect place to come home to after a day of sightseeing . Jacqueline provided a variety of food items for breakfast, lunch, snacks along with a bottle of wine. She is an excellent host and very easy to talk to.

I wish I could live here! The apartment and private courtyard are adorable, cozy, and comfortable. I stayed for a couple of weeks and felt right away that I was home. Jacqueline is fantastic, personable, and provided us with some excellent gifts on arrival (booze and cheese, where can you go wrong?!). In addition to that, she had recommendations about things nearby, even taking my partner out to the ocean while I was away working. We were able to sit and visit with Jacqueline, share a delicious meal (no matter how simple ;)), and anything that we needed she was more than happy to take care of during our stay. Thank you again!!

(URL HIDDEN) I am at a great stage in my life.... my two children are healthy and happy and pursuing their own lives, my daughter is a teacher and my son is in college. I am in a happy relationship with my long term partner who is a garden designer. I am enjoying doing the things that have always interested me such as painting vintage & antique furniture, interior design, life coaching, travel, catching up with friends and creating a space at my home to receive new friends through airbnb. My partner and I love France and Italy. When traveling we like to get to know people in the places we visit, it gives us great joy to create genuine friendships. We usually stay with the locals to get a good feel for where we are, and find that this is very culturally fulfilling. I am looking forward to hosting guests in our new apartment and hope that they will be happy to stay with us and maybe return at a later date.

I look forward to meeting you,

Warm Wishes,
