Our sunny Court Yard Garden Studio Apartment has a well stocked cupboard & fridge for breakfast/lunch. It has its own private entrance, is in the beautiful water side old village of Glounthaune, only 10 minutes east of Cork City by train/car or bus.
I have lived in Glounthaune Village for many happy years. Recently we converted our art studio~gallery at the rear of the house into a very comfortable large double studio apartment which is suitable for holiday guests and also for corporate guests visiting Little Island, Midleton or Cork City . It has a kitchenette and shower room. There is free parking just outside our gate which is always available for guests, we are also on the Cork~Cobh~Midleton Train line for guests that do not have a car. The cosy private space is enclosed by a stone court yard with an abundance of colourful planting which is very pleasant to sit out and relax in. The apartment is furnished in a vintage french country style. The double bed has an orthopedic mattress which is surrounded by a Victorian frame and electric blanket. The apartment is a very comfortable, peaceful place to hang out in, in summer or winter..should one just wish to stay put there is a good selection of breakfast/lunch/tea nibbles, (frozen dinners in freezer on request) books, TV (for dvd's only for the mo!) cd's & dvd's and a large information pack for local sights and things to do. A mobile phone is available for our foreign guests to use locally while at the property if needed. The kitchenette has a sink (instant hot water) fridge, microwave, small electric oven, freezer, expresso machine, kettle, toaster, washer & dryer. The shower room has a large electric shower unit, towels etc, sink & toilet. There are electric heaters through out the well insulated apartment. Electric Blanket all year round!
Glounthaune Village is a small historic village/hamlet with no through road, it is accessed over an old railway bridge from the main road. The village is always beautifully kept by the villagers and is especially lovely in Spring & Summer when so many flowers and shrubs are in bloom. We have a park in the village by the water's edge, a tidal estuary, 30 seconds from the house which is lovely for a stroll.
The friendly award winning Rising Tide Bar~ Restaurant in the village serves morning coffee, lunch and evening dinner including an early bird menu or just a pint!
There is also a wonderful shop ~ delicatessen within a few minutes walk of the village.
We are within 10 minutes walking distance of Glounthaune train station which is linked to the main Cork City Kent Station 10 minutes & 2 stops away. The trains run every 30 minutes.
Fota Island Hotel & Spa, Golf Club, Wild Life Park & House (beautiful!) only 10 minutes away, Historic Cobh 15 minutes away, Midleton with historic distillery 15 minutes away, Little Island just
5 minutes (very convenient for visiting staff to technology park). Undiscovered Barryscourt Castle 10 minutes. Ballymaloe House & Cookery School 30 minutes away, Historic Youghal also 30 minutes away. All of Co. Cork, Co. Waterford & Co.Kerry are easily accessible by car from our home as we live just a few minutes from major road arteries. Into Cork City and the Jack Lynch tunnel (See map on site) is just a few minutes away.
Our guests have access to the court yard & garden apartment by the side entrance of the main house, through the cream archway. The court yard is covered in climbing plants and flowers, it is a nice area to sit out and relax in weather permitting! Guests are also very welcome to use the BBQ. Our guests are also welcome to use the washing machine and dryer which are both in the kitchenette.
There is a TV (only for dvd'(email hidden)), Books, CD's & DVD's in the Apartment. Very Good Internet Access.
Interaction with Guests
We are new members of airbnb (since July 2014). We love to meet people and enjoy having guests come to our home. Having traveled frequently in Europe we have always appreciate a warm comfortable bed and a genuine welcome in the places we have stayed, usually b&b's or agritourismo accommodation. We now have the chance to do the same for our guests here in Cork. Both of us are easy going people and the atmosphere here is very relaxed. It would be our wish that all our guests feel comfortable and happy during their stay. I work from home so am usually on hand in the main house for any help, advice or a chat at any time.
We live in a small local community in the country side but within easy reach of the city. It is a wonderful sanctuary but when a bit of hustle & bustle is called for the Cork City is only 10 minutes away, very handy for all festivals and events. The tidal estuary is literally on our door step. There are many great beaches and wonderful places to visit within half an hour's drive.
East Cork is well worth exploring, Fota Golf Club which hosted the Irish Open this Summer is a few minutes away also the World Famous Jemeson Brewery is down the road. East Cork is not as well known as West Cork but has its own particular beauty and interest, including historic and culinary. Well worth exploring!
A car is not necessary to enjoy your stay with us, there is a great Train Service within 10 minutes walking distance of the house (Glounthaune Station) Should you need a lift from the station I am always on hand to collect. This train goes to & from Cork City Kent Station with links nationwide every half hour, also East to Carrigtwohill, Midleton, Fota Wild Life Park, Fota Golf Club Hotel & Spa and Cobh. There is also a great Central Bus Station in the city, Parnell Place Bus Station which services all areas of the city, county and country. There is a bus stop at the top of the village but the train is more frequent to and from the City.
Other Things to Note
A generous welcome pack is provided for guests on arrival, this will include wine, tea, coffee, bread, cereals, jams, nuts, butter, milk, water, juice, yogurts, cold meat & cheese. I can also provide frozen evening meals at a reasonable cost, which can be in the freezer to pop into the microwave (notice of a few days would be needed for this service, just let me know if this is something you would be interested in). When we travel we like our privacy at breakfast time especially, so we thought providing the pack in the apartment was a good idea which would afford that same privacy to our guests, in saying that I am usually around the main house, as I work from home. If guests need advice or just have a chat I am always happy to be there for our guests.
On a\the fine day! it is nice to open up the double doors of the garden studio and have breakfast in the court yard. The Rising Tide bar~ restaurant across the street is really good for morning coffee, lunch, dinner, a drink, also there is a wonderful delicatessen and a 'pub pub' 5 minutes walk down the road, they show sporting activities on the TV.
I hope you enjoy your stay with us... only two rules! I am so sorry the studio is not suitable for pets and there is no smoking in the apartment but there is plenty of space outside in the court yard to smoke.
We stayed at the garden studio for 3 nights. I loved the garden setting and that the studio was separate from the main house for total privacy. The kitchen, bathroom and living room were great. Washer and dryer was a huge bonus. It was nice to have some snacks and breakfasts items provided. The train station is a short walk down the road and we paid 10 euro for 2 people to get into Cork and back. We also picked up a few things at the deli on the way back from the station. Lovely, thanks for a great stay in Cork.
We spent 2 nights at Jacqueline's place and we truly recommend staying here. Very well located and so welcoming. We had plenty delicious snacks and things for to chose for for breakfast. Jacqueline gave us some really good tips for places to visit and for some restaurants. The place is really charming. We had a very good experience in Glounthaune and it is a great place to use as a base to explore Cork and the surrounding area. We will be staying here again :
Jacqui was really nice and extremely helpful! A lovely person :) She filled the fridge with goods for the breakfast and she also gave us a bottle of wine.
The place is a little gem, perfect after a day of sightseeing. Great communications with Jacqui as well! Recommended :)
The house was exactly as advertised: comfortable, pretty and with good hot water and heating (much appreciated after a long day). Jacqui was also very kind and helped in so many little ways (as well as being such as lovely person!). Thanks so much for making my stay so happy and I look forward to staying with you again next time I'm in Cork.
What a great place to stay! Our hosts welcomed us when we arrived, showed us the studio, its appliances and facilities. They were there to help with advice where to go, what to see, interesting and beautiful places to visit. Jacqui and Dominic succeded to make us feel very comfortable and welcome - great people to stay with, to get to know, to talk to.
The studio is furnished and designed in the most beautiful and creative way. It is placed inbetween flowers and trees, a small garden paradise. Coming home at night we were always greeted with candles burning in lanterns.
It was fun to be there, to spend rainy hours reading in the lovely surroundings, to come back there after a day of sightseeing. We hope to be able to come back there some day. Thanks for the good time we had!
Thank you for your kind words Ursula and Martin, it was fun having you stay with us and a pleasure to meet you both. I am glad that you enjoyed your visit to cork and felt comfortable in the studio. We hope to see you again soon. Wishing you all the very best.
Had a lovely weekend staying in Jacqui's garden studio. It was very cosy and warm and was a great base for exploring east cork. Jacqui is extremely friendly and the kitchen was well stocked with breakfast food and a nice bottle of wine! ! Great location for a romantic weekend away. Also had a lovely meal in the rising tide pub across the road, well worth a visit! ! We will definitely stay here again if we are ever back down that way!
Our stay in Glounthaune was wonderful! We were a bit unlucky with the weather, but Jacqui's hospitality made all the difference. The studio was very cozy but had plenty of space for two. Even when we were rained in all day, we had plenty of entertainment as Jacqui had left movies and books for us. The kitchen was great, and we hardly had any shopping to do because Jacqui had already left us with some groceries. The store was only a 5-10 minute walk. And the train station only a 10-15 minute walk. You are very conveniently located between Cork city centre and Cobh, with easy access to Kinsale as well.
All in all, we had a great time and Jacqui did her best to make us feel welcome. She even personally drove us back to the train station on our last day!
Hi Morgan, thank you for such lovely comments. I was worried that the weather would dampen your spirits! it is good to know that it did not. It was a pleasure having you both stay, thank you for leaving the studio in such great shape. I hope to see you again in the summer time!.
I am at a great stage in my life.... my two children are healthy and happy and pursuing their own lives, my daughter is a teacher and my son is in college. I am in a happy relationship with my long term partner who is a garden designer. I am enjoying doing the things that have always interested me such as painting vintage & antique furniture, interior design, life coaching, travel, catching up with friends and creating a space at my home to receive new friends through airbnb. My partner and I love France & Italy but recently have fallen in love with the Sheeps Head Peninsula in West Cork, it is a piece of paradise. When traveling we like to get to know people in the places we visit, it gives us great joy to create genuine friendships. We usually stay with the locals to get a good feel for where we are, and find that this is very culturally fulfilling. I am looking forward to hosting guests in our new apartment and hope that they will be happy to stay with us and maybe return at a later date.
I look forward to meeting you,
