This studio guest cottage is nestled in the beautiful east end of the Ojai Valley. The property is located amidst orange groves yet only 7 minute drive to downtown Ojai. Private entry, fully outfitted kitchen, queen size bed, wooden deck under trees.
The private cottage is a very cozy place to call home. We call it the the Honey House and it is ideal for guests looking for a relaxed getaway from the hustle and bustle. Set under a canopy of mature tall trees with green plants everywhere. The fully shaded cottage is nicely furnished with wood furniture and a comfortable queen size bed with high quality linen and pillows. The kitchen is fully outfitted with everything to make you feel at home. We also provide a good selection of teas and fresh ground coffee.
The early mornings, evenings and nights are remarkably quiet due to the East End being sparsely populated. At night there isn't a sound to be heard except the odd owl hooting and crickets. There is a small private preschool nearby and the sounds of happy young children can sometimes be heard during the day, and that would only be weekdays.
If you are coming from the big city you will no doubt be impressed by the crisp clean cool mountain air that comes in every night and lingers through the early morning. These are the best times to take a stroll along the orange and avocado grove streets that surround the property.
We as your hosts have worked in the hotel services field and you can count on the cottage to be detail cleaned and well appointed with all the amenities to make you feel right at home.
The Honey House is a very special and cozy place.
Ideal for singles and couples, or if you are travelling with a friend we have a nice pull out futon that seconds as a comfy bed.
Dedicated off street parking, fast Wi-Fi and laundry facilities (if over 5 days stay). Bring a flashlight as there are no streetlights. Many people come to our neighborhood to stargaze or watch meteor showers. If you are lucky to come on the nights leading up to a full moon you can take a close-up of the moon through our telescope.
During the day you can take a stroll on one of the most beautiful tree lined streets in the Ojai Valley.
Interaction with Guests
The guest cottage sits on a 1/3 acre lot along with the main house. We are a family with a 14 year old son and a 11 year old daughter. Both our children are good natured and know how to respect the privacy of our guests. As our guest you can expect a good degree of solitude. The back yard is a shared space, though it is used rarely. We have chickens (no roosters!) and a very sweet border collie dog who acts as our doorbell. None of the animals are permitted in the guest cottage.
The east end of Ojai has a long and storied past. John Lennon was known to hang out here and allegedly wrote "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" during his stay. He sought out the spiritual guru Krishnamurti who's library is located 1/2 mile from our location.
Our street is dotted with mature olive and oak trees. Local wineries are in town with several tasting rooms. Our neighbor Santa Barbara is only 40 minutes away.
Come and enjoy the serenity.
7 minute drive from downtown Ojai.

The Honey House as well as the entire property is a non smoking area.
Our stay at this charming guest house was very pleasant, The place was clean and had everything we needed, and Sabine and Greg were very friendly and welcoming.
Sabine and Greg were wonderful hosts. They were very communicative throughout the booking process, sending clear email information and checking in with me before I arrived. They gave me a heads up that their property was along an orange grove, and due to freezing temps, turbines in the orchard might be on. They gave me a great bottle of local organic wine as an apology for the unusual noise (it rarely gets below freezing in this area).
The space was perfect. Very clean and comfortable (the bed was very cozy and soft). There were nice touches like oranges from the nearby orchards and a binder with a welcome letter, local activity info and menus from restaurants in town.
I had complete privacy while staying in the cottage, but at the end of my stay, Sabine came to say hi and check in about how my experience was. She was very friendly and sweet. I would definitely stay here again.
What a perfect place to stay! Sabine and Greg were the most lovely hosts, and this has been my favorite AirBnB experience so far. Their cottage is unique, beautiful, and perfectly cozy. The bed is big, comfortable, and warm. There's a great kitchen stocked with all the equipment you'd need to cook while traveling. The internet connection is great. The neighborhood is great - their home is nestled among orange and lemon groves, which leave quite an impression upon arrival. It's a short drive to town or great hikes. I would definitely stay there again and again, and would recommend to anyone looking for a home away from home.
Fantastic! We have hosted over 50 guests this years, and this was our 1st ever trip to an Airbnb, and it was the perfect trip. The 'Honey House' was a delightful cabin-like space; rustic, charming... a delight. Sabine and Greg were warm and welcoming hosts, the house was clean and well stocked. We hope to return...
The host was not on site during our visit, but had communicated with multiple text messages to provide information and particulars about the property and gaining access. The description provided for the property accurately reflected the cozy cottage. The location was in a quiet neighborhood, but was also not far from downtown Ojai. We made use of the literature provided to find a couple of interesting local attractions. Overall, the property had the feel of a retreat and allowed in a lot of natural light. Fortunately for the locals (because of the drought), but not so much for us, the weather was rainy and overcast during most of our visit. The bed was comfortable and there was quite of bit of storage for clothes and personal items so the space did not feel cluttered. We used this more like a hotel room, rather than a vacation get away, which is a strong influence on our overall experience rating.
This was our second visit and we feel very at home at Sabine and Greg's place. Its close to where we want to be and we love the cottage. Its clean, comfortable with everything we need, especially their organic, environmentally friendly items left to use (no mircrowave which is preferable) and enjoy. The back porch is peaceful and "homey" with the most majestic Italian stone pine (?) that I wish I had in my yard! Thanks again and of course we'll be back!
Great space, I wholeheartedly recommend it for a long weekend getaway.
My only complaint with the Sabines was getting in touch with them. I tried calling a few times and fired an email to no response, so I was a touch nervous about my first AirBNB experience. But once I got there they were both very friendly, the guest house was absolutely charming (fresh oranges to be juiced and such), and the directions were spot on. My only complaint about the house was the rooster next door. Don't expect to sleep in. And while getting woken up by a rooster is charming, it's outweighed by the early hour.
Not sure what email address this guest was using, but it was not showing up through the airbnb portal. Sabine and I are both committed to a high level of communication as mentioned frequently in other reviews.
The rooster mentioned came from a flock up the street and decided to leave his brood and claim a new home with our hens. We will return him to its rightful owners.
We are world travelers and understand the concept of a "good stay". Sabine is originally from Vienna, Austria and Greg is from the Midwest. We have lived in the Ojai Valley at this property for 14 years. Together we have raised 2 sweet children.
