roof deck with expansive view..smallest cottage..suitable for shorter visits..this cottage is the most insect free..
smal hilside cottage overlooking port antonio and the carribean sea ..walking distance to transportation, markets, beaches and other attractions..the cottage is 150 steps thru the jungle up a hill from the car park...comfortable walking shoes with good gripping soles are advisable.....this cottage is ideally suited for one person or a couple..some visitors take a night or two to get used to the sounds of early morning roosters and dogs, the occasional sound system..usually muted..during the day raucous parrots and woodpeckers are the main noisemakers..water is not hot unless u heat it on the stove..linens and towels supplied..internet access on roof deck..air is conditioned by fans and sea breezes..long pants and socks are advised in the early evenings..if u are allergic to insect bites,u might want to consider other options...finally,a tip on luggage..suitcases are unwieldy and impractical due to the steep terrain from carpark to cottage..backpacks are advised....because of its small size,it is ideal for a single traveler..best to arrive before dark..
beachgoers please wash sand off outside..thanks..
Excellent place to stay, can't imagine any better for the price. Mike is fantastic, very friendly and accommodating. Rooms are clean and comfortable in a great location. Be prepared to climb some steps and bring mosquito repellant- well it is rain forest- but we had a fantastic couple of days. Portland is a must if you are touring Jamaica- really beautiful!!
Mikes cabin was one of our most favourite places we stayed in Jamaica! It was simple, safe, clean and had a great view! Also a very handy location to everything. Mike was a great host, giving us helpful advice when we asked, but also gave us privacy.
Would recommend to stay on Mango ridge to anyone going to Port Antonio!
English version: Mike is a great host, highly recommended. Friendly, attentive, respectful, was there whenever we needed. He shared with us very precise information about Port Antonio and its surroundings and some very nice talks that made this part of our trip memorable!
Michael's place was absolutely amazing. After a small walk up the stairs, in a hill full of vegetation, we got to this cottage where two cold beers were waiting for us. The cottage has a roof deck where you can sit and relax with an amazing view of Port Antonio and with nothing but the sound of birds and insects that live on the hill. Absolutely beautiful.
Michael was a very nice host. He helped us giving us tips to where to go, and he was always available if we needed to ask him anything. He is a very nice person to chat with as well. Be careful though! He is a great domino player, and he might beat you in it very badly, as it was in my case, haha. Overall a very dedicated and helpful host, and a very nice person.
Port Antonio is an amazing destination. A small town away of the craziness of places that are more touristic. The locals are very nice. You can relax, walk around this lovely town and visit beautiful beaches that are close. And Michael's place gives you a unique place to enjoy all of this.
We enjoyed our stay! Nice little room up on the hill with a great view of town and the may. Michael was accommodating and kind in sharing local spots to check out. His best piece of advice? Lunch at Cynthia's down at Winifred Beach!
My girlfriend and I stayed 2 nights at the Birdman place ( like the locals call him). We were absolutely enchanting by this little part of heaven in the jungle. The cottage "Harbor View" we had was more than clean, fonctionnal (little kitchen, bathroom), with a lovely view on Port-Antonio bay and nicely decorated. Mike the host was at our disposition every time we needed and was very sympathic. We were happy to enjoy less mosquito than we imagined. Bird noise, rainforest, nature and music and gospel from the village was our background sound for 2 days. If you are backpacking, love animals (cats, birds) and nature and not afraid of climbimg a few stairs you have to stay here! Port antonio is a very nice city, more authentic than Negril or Mobay, with lovely beaches and natural spots to relax and discover the real Jamaica with its nice and friendly population.
Great place. Wifi did not work that well. I'll be back and would recommend.
