About This Listing
Enjoy a comfortable, secluded garden cottage in a historic downtown San Luis Obispo home along bicycle boulevard. Located in a sunny, safe, and vibrant college town midway between Los Angeles and San Francisco on California's Central Coast.
Please note: This is a humble garden cottage, not a 5 star hotel. It's a cute and quirky space that is more like urban "glamping" than a hotel.
A detached, tucked away, private cottage with it's own entrance and patio in the back of our peaceful 110 year old historic downtown home. An ideal location for guests looking to slow down and have an authentic San Luis Obispo experience.
The cottage includes a comfortable "Full / Double Bed" (size 54"x 75") and large closet with a mini fridge, filtered drinking water and a microwave.
Our guests get a freshly made bed with cotton linens and towel sets with soap for the bathroom which is located in the main house. Our home is old so the hot water takes a moment.
Wireless internet is provided.
You can open the french doors to a private garden patio environment with a round table and four chairs that's great for a delightful outdoor dining experience. Although we do not provide coffee, there are wonderful coffee places within a couple blocks of our home.
We do not allow cats and dogs because we have 3 wonderful chickens: Ginger, Daisy, and Tayrona. They have their own home and space to rome so they will not be in your way.
This place is best suited for a single person or couple. Parties are not allowed.
If you just want to get away and spend quiet time in a beautiful place this is the spot for you.
Our guests enjoy a private entrance to the garden patio with brick path to their hidden cottage room.
The bathroom is located in the main house only a few steps from the cottage.
Interaction with Guests
We live on site and greet our guests upon arrival at 4pm otherwise we are active in our community, but always within reach by text. Please text with further concerns, needs, questions or comments.
Our place is close to everything, very walkable and fun bike friendly. You don't need to get into a car to enjoy our town.
Located on bicycle boulevard, which is a low-speed street "optimized" for bicycles, discouraging cut-through motor-vehicle traffic. Designed to give priority to bicyclists with increased comfort and safety.
Four blocks from downtown Higuera street, five minute walk from San Luis Obispo train station, four miles from San Luis Obispo airport and only two miles from California Polytechnic University.
Walk, Run, Bike, Hike, Bus…
Walk and smell the flowers in our historic downtown neighborhood or a ten minute blissful walk over the bridge to Terrace Hill, a steep hike to the top, with a treasured view of the city.
Our location is ideal for running, annually we have a marathon that goes by our home.
Bikes available for rent...Embrace your independence by cruzing a bike around downtown.
Biking and hiking trails accessible through the neighborhood. Breath taking views provide many photo opportunities and experiences.
We happily provide hiking information since we frequently walk the trails. Be sure to bring good walking shoes, sun block and a hat if you want to try some of the trails. I also recommend you bring layered clothing and especially jacket/windbreaker for nighttime and mornings, SLO can get chilly at night.
Numerous bus stops for transportation around city are nearby within a couple of blocks walking distance.
Explore the plethora of good restaurants, beaches and wineries. Downtown SLO is vibrant with great restaurants, movie and coffee houses, and is simply nice to walk around. Farmer's Market is every Thursday from 6pm-9pm, live entertainment, great food and interesting people.
SLO is centrally located with several beaches North and South less than 15 minutes away. The sunsets on the coast are truly fantastic. South of the cottage is Avila Beach, Shell Beach, and Pismo Beach, North of the cottage is Los Oso, Baywood, and Morro Bay.

We arrived about an hour and a half early as I forgot that check in time was at 4. Sarah greeted us as walked us to the back. That was the only time we got to interact with her but she was lovely and very welcoming. Thank you for checking us in early. This spot is literally a little love shack and its awesome! It's nice, cozy, and the bed was very comfortable. We didn't mind the bathroom situation at all. The walk across the yard is very brief. Sarah also provided us with extra blankets because it was very chilly, but we didn't need them. Location, location, location! Downtown was merely 4 blocks away. We got to have fun and not worry about driving. We will definetly be back! Great spot
Sarah was very welcoming upon arrival and was only a text away if we had any questions. The location was awesome! Walking distance to downtown SLO and a short drive to the freeway. The separate bathroom was a little inconvenient given the rain that night, but definitely not a problem.
I never actually met Scott and Sarah, but communications with them via email and text were excellent. They sent me detailed info for self-check-in and all was well.
The location is great, a quiet and safe neighborhood just a few blocks from Downtown. I was able to walk everywhere and really enjoyed the lively farmer's market on Thursday evening.
Calling this a "cottage" is maybe a bit of a stretch. As noted by others, it is more like a converted shed. A bit funky, no frills, but clean, and the bed is comfortable. Having to walk across the patio to use the bathroom in the main house is a minor inconvenience, not a big problem. There are no windows that open and no screen door, which could be a drawback during hot weather.
I probably wouldn't choose this for a romantic getaway with my wife, but as a single guest with simple needs for two nights it worked just fine for me. For the price and location I'd recommend it.
Cool little place in the historic district of SLO. Easy walking to everything you would need downtown: coffee, drinks, food.
We felt very welcomed at Scott & Sarah's "love shack". We saw Scott a few times in the yard, but didn't see Sarah. We are pretty quiet ourselves, so this was agreeable to us. :) We could tell that there was great attention to detail with the decor, and items to make our stay more convenient and comfortable (water in the room, mini fridge, microwave). The heater was a god-send, as it was colder then usual in SLO during our stay. With the heater it was very cozy. The room and the adjoining "closet" (houses the microwave, fridge, etc) was very roomy. We had plenty of place to spread out our suitcase and other items. The only thing I would suggest is to perhaps provide some hangers? The closet would be a perfect place to hang coats or other items that we are constantly grabbing when going out.
The bathroom of course isn't the most fun situation, but water pressure was good and water in the shower heated up nice and warm. A bathroom is a bathroom. You aren't sleeping in the bathroom, so we personally didn't place a lot of emphasis on the bathroom situation itself. We also knew that the bathroom was separate. So it wasn't a surprise. It was usable and accessible, and that is all that is necessary.
The location to downtown is absolutely perfect. A few blocks of walking and you are on Higuera, which is the main shopping strip of SLO. We enjoyed that we could both drink without worrying about driving, and absolutely LOVED the location. Parking is super convenient at Scott and Sarah's. Even with the SLO marathon rendering some of the surrounding roads inaccessible, we didn't feel inconvenienced at all. We just walked instead!
Misc: We heard chickens but never saw them. Loved the sound of the clucking in the morning... so soothing! The light streams through the french doors so beautifully in the morning. So relaxing! Walking to and from the bathroom at night isn't a problem... motion sensor lighting really well.
All in all we truly enjoyed. Thanks!
Description was as advertised - a functional and clean place to stay, 4 blocks walk from the heart of downtown. Met Sarah - she was very nice and welcoming.
