About this listing
Newly re-built in 1993, this beautiful home still feels like an old world sanctuary. High in the verdant hills of Oakland, our 2br/1.5 bath Spanish jewel easily accommodates eight guests, and even then seems spacious!
The house consists of two levels, each with decks overlooking a lush garden of lilies, roses, lavender, poppies, and kangaroo paws. The main level, with a wonderfully open floor plan, has living room, dining room, and kitchen. From the living room, enjoy the western views of the San Francisco Bay at sunset, or invite friends to join you at the dining room table, which extends to fit eight quite comfortably. The well-stocked kitchen will please any chef, and inspire many sumptuous meals!
The master bedroom has an equally breathtaking view of the Bay, especially from the vantage of its four-poster queen bed. An attached study, which opens onto the expansive back yard, is decorated with artifacts from around the globe, and has a comfy pull-out queen-size sofa, TV, and a vintage writing desk. Delight in the luxury of the master bath, with its soft robes, tiled tub that overlooks the garden, and separate WC. The second bedroom, which peeks out at the deck (another room with a view!), has a trundle bed, a large TV, and an array of great books and cds. Netflix and DirectTV are available for both TVs. Even so, don’t forget to curl up in the cozy reading nook for a good read! Also, please feel free to avail yourself of the laundry room. BTW, the couch in the living room also opens to a queen size bed!
The lovely outdoor space will beckon you outside. Once there, it may be difficult to decide whether to drink french-pressed coffee on the kitchen terrace, curl up in the hammock, stretch out for a snooze on the chaise lounge, BBQ on the deck by the old-growth Redwood, or gather for a late-night chat over California wine by the massive gas fireplace. It’s all so wonderful… you won’t ever want to leave!

We are the folks from Book A Nook, a relational property management outfit. We love to meet our guests and see how we can make their stay a stellar experience, which is why so many of our guests return!
You won’t want to miss nearby Montclair Village, only a mile away, with its abundance of restaurants, boutique stores, design galleries, ice cream and coffee shops. There are bakeries, retail shopping, two supermarkets, and a host of other chow providers very nearby as well.
This location is also ideal if you’d like to visit the Oakland Rose Garden or the Sculpture Gardens Jack London Square, the University of California, Berkeley, or Silicon Valley. Downtown Oakland has some of the best restaurants in California, not to mention a downtown lake, complete with gondolas and a running path. You may also walk to Lake Temescal with its sweet beach, walking paths and fishing spots. We are within minutes of many other amazing hiking, biking, and riding trails and parks.
For baseball fans, the SF Giants are 25 minutes away by car, BART, or Ferry. The Ferry drops you off at Center Field before the game and picks you up 20 min. after. The Oakland Coliseum, home of the fabulous Oakland Athletics, is 20 min away by car or BART. Street parking is free and ample.
San Francisco is only 20 minutes away, Muir Woods a quick 45 minute drive, and the wineries of Napa and Sonoma are an hour away. We are 20 minutes from Oakland airport and 35 minutes from SFO. BART, with a station just 1.5 miles away, goes into downtown Oakland and San Francisco, as well as to both airports. The ferry system, a more scenic mode of transportation, goes from Jack London Square to San Francisco, Marin, or Angel Island. From the Ferry Station in SF, you can get a boat to Alcatraz Island, one of the most famous prisons in the world. It makes for a wonderful day trip.

The house was very nice, accurately depicted in the photos. It is very lived in, more that most places we have stayed in, but given that, it was very clean. The outdoor spaces are very comfortable. Privacy may be a little awkward for a larger group, as there are no doors at all between the living area and the only shower, just a windy staircase. The kitchen is stocked with lots and lots of pots, pans, utensils, and spices, and you can make a real dinner there with just a couple of main ingredients from the grocery store. Limor and her associates provided very fast and friendly communication and made the process very comfortable.

What a wonderful experience this was for my family as first time Airbnb customers. Stairway to Heaven was just that. The lovely landscaped climb up to the front door set the standard for this lush retreat. Our hosts welcomed us with a generous and perfectly selected basket of treats and a detailed guide to the workings of the home. This multi level house was a surprise at every turn. Gorgeous features in kitchen and bath, spacious living room and bonus room off master suite, two levels of patios to enjoy the weather and the best views of San Francisco from across the Bay! I heartily recommend a stay in this lovely piece of heaven.
Lovely homely house in good location. The house is well located for exploring San Francisco, we parked at the local BART station and commuted in. The house is comfortable and well equipped. We were particularly charmed by the welcome basket of goodies!
Thanks a lot, Limor. We had a wonderful stay in this beautiful house and the whole organization worked very well. We would like to come back!!
Many thanks for a wonderful family get away for our family of three. The property managers were very friendly and easy to work with, and provided many unexpected cozy touches in the home (fresh flowers to greet us!). The home itself is in a very nice, peaceful neighborhood- it felt like home and we began referring to it as "Aunt Sara's house". Everyone had their own spaces when we wanted quiet time apart, and the main gathering places were very accommodating when we wanted to be together.
We found the easy highway and BART access to be great, and took full advantage of the BART for trips into San Francisco. We loved the home and would certainly recommend it and would stay again if in the area.
A little confusion with information, upon arrival we received info on 2 different places had to clear up with a phone call. After that all was great. Neighbor hood was wonderful
