The Space

Elements is a unique private compound located close to the coast and the vineyards of Sonoma. The grounds have been landscape with indigenous grasses and ferns, highlighting the phenomenal native redwood trees. Pathways wind throughout, offering innumerable walks among ever-changing scenery, including a serene pond and enchanting waterfall to delight and awaken the senses. When you hike from the main compound, pathways become forest trails beckoning further into remote adjoining terrains still on the property Extended walks offer seasonal streams and waterfalls, in addition to Austin Creek itself, with its numerous swimming holes and opportunities for creek wading. The entire retreat is professionally lit to a stunning degree, complimenting its allure day and night

Entertaining is effortless and everyone can still have their own privacy, while gathering together in the large entertaining areas. All bedrooms, with a total of three king and one queen beds, are furnished with quality linens and down comforters

The main house is a contemporary craftsman style structure with a great room, master bedroom and two bathrooms. One of which is exceptionally large with multiple shower heads and a Zen inspired private garden. The fully appointed kitchen is centered around a granite island and can accommodate multiple chefs. Appliances include a professional six burner Wolf range/oven, micro wave drawer, Stainless refrigerator/freezer, garbage compactor, and complete dinner service. The Great Room does have the latest in video, audio and Internet capabilities if that need strikes. The lodge is replete with fine attention to every detail, from the refectory style dining table, the deep leather sofa (rollout), to custom designed candle chandelier, which radiates throughout the main living area.

The West Terrace and Buddha Garden off the main house is an example of what makes this estate so unique. The outdoor kitchen and gardens were crafted from river stone years ago when the property was a summer campsite. The outdoor kitchen has been restored and updated and includes a state of the art gas BBQ, sink, lighting and herb garden. The original river stone fire pit is now, the focal point of a modern and sophisticated outside entertainment area. The dinning table was custom made from the center cut of a local redwood tree and seats fourteen plus people. It’s the perfect setting for a large family gathering or a romantic retreat.

The guest house has its own terrace and seating area. Its windows have beautiful garden views too, but with different vistas, giving this two-bedroom space a unique atmosphere and privacy. It has king and queen sleeping accommodations. A spacious multi shower head bathroom offers a mini spa experience off a secluded and private patio.

The “cabin” is everyone’s favorite. Its pine-paneled interior is a classic recreation of the traditional summer camp cottage. It has its own bathroom and outside shower. The cabin also adjoins a very large deck with its own views of the redwoods and gardens. It is a secluded gem.

The yoga studio is the final structure, with its own Japanese wood walkway and meditative views. Although it is used primarily for exercise and yoga, its another great spot to relax. The studio has adjustable weights and other exercise equipment.

In the center of the compound is the spa area. Its focus is a redwood hot tub situated in the center of an ancient faerie ring of redwoods. It’s truly a magical location. A soak in the hot tub at night lets you link with nature and the starlit sky, a wonderful harmonious experience.

Located throughout the property is all the latest that technology can offer including two HDTV’s, a full range of cable programming, ITV, Blue Ray DVD, and high speed internet. Each house has its own Internet radio connection, as well as I pod docking stations. All of this technology is here to serve your real world reality while you enjoy the calm and escape that this retreat provides.

Guest Access

Guests have access to all four buildings and surrounding gardens. The property is fenced making it ideal for traveling pets
There are certain cabinets and storage areas that are either locked or marked as off limits for guests.

Interaction with Guests

I am always happy to arrange to meet my guests; but usually my interaction is limited to email and phone conversations.

  • Michaels Elements compound was absolutely perfect for our "Old Friends" reunion. Plenty of room for four couples to share and yet be able to retreat to our own private area. We took full advantage of the spacious outdoor areas for grilling, relaxing and just catching up. Absolutely great for a large group like ours!

  • Michael was a phenomenal host and has an exquisite property! We visited for a week and this was the perfect location to enjoy all the local towns, wine tasting in the russian river valley, and easy access to national parks and the coast. We were a family of 6 and we felt very comfortable. I cannot speak highly enough of the property, which is even better than the pictures make it seem, and it was so hard for us to have to leave. Highly recommended for a relaxing getaway or vacation in the area. Thank you again Michael!!

  • It's such a pleasure to have very high expectations of a getaway like the Elements and then have those expectations EXCEEDED! The place looks beautiful in the photos and is more beautiful in person. Michael's place is extremely well maintained and he is generous with his hospitality. We had 8 family members including a small baby and everyone had their own personal space. We congregated in the main house and on the patio and we all retreated when we needed private time. We had a great family retreat and the Elements was a major contributing factor. Thanks Michael!

  • Michael was nothing short of amazing in his communication of not only the check-in process, but also offered ideas and help on what to do around town. His property is immaculate, expansive, and jaw dropping beautiful. All we could talk about was the next time we were coming back to enjoy the peaceful, quiet, and beautiful retreat.

I would recommend to anyone anytime, book it!

  • The house is as gorgeous as the photos make it out to be. Definitely a great choice for anyone looking to visit the Armstrong Redwoods, Wine Country, or just looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

  • I almost don't want to leave a review for Elements because it was so amazing I'm afraid that it'll get too full and we won't be able to return! Honestly though, I can't say enough positive things about the property and our weekend there. It was in immaculate condition and so well thought out.

The property is huge and was more than enough room for our party of 8 people to spread out. We all live in San Francisco and the houses were much larger than our combined apartments in the city...

We spent a magical weekend cooking in the large and amazingly well appointed kitchen, soaking in the beautiful redwood tub, and drinking sangria in all the little gardens and seats tucked away around the property. We also intended on practicing some yoga in the charming studio but...good intentions only get you so far. ;)

Michael was a attentive and well prepared host! He was so flexible and responsive throughout the booking and planning process, giving us so much information which made the pre-weekend planning so easy! I really can't recommend this property enough and can hardly wait to return!

  • Michael was a great host with an amazing property ranging from the house itself to the kitchen to the redwood hot tub and fire pit. If you get the chance I'd highly recommend spending time here relaxing away from the city.

I have spent most of my adult life enjoying Northern California or traveling. I started raising horses in Napa, and then went on to develop Blackbird Vineyards. As a long time resident of San Francisco I enjoy great food and I am passionate about my friends. My partner Thom and I both love to travel or relax and enjoy a long stay at Elements along with our dog Hudson.
