Cotton House 2 is a beach house right on Cotton Bay on the south coast of Barbados. Three air-conditioned bedrooms and three bathrooms with one fourth bedroom without a/c. The master bedroom has a king size bed, the other two with a/c can either be pushed together to form a king size bed for couples, or kept separate as two twins. The fourth bedroom has a double and single bed. The house can sleep up to 8 people comfortably.
Lots of space inside and out with a yard as well as an electric gate. In a family friendly neighborhood walking distance from Cafe Luna and Miami beach. Large deck perfect for lounging and entertaining. Surf break right out back perfect for learning. Five minutes away from Oistens where there are supermarkets, public transportation, and restaurants.
If your stay is longer than a week a maid will come to clean. If additional maid service is requested, one is available for US$50 a day.
The view of the ocean from the house is even more breathtaking than what the photos suggest. Opening the doors to the deck in the morning or when coming back to the house after a few hours was like opening the doors to heaven, with the rush of blue sky and sea and the powerful sound of the waves taking us aback every time, even after 7 days in the place.
The large open deck is beautiful too and the ability to go for a swim then sit in the shade is priceless. And yes, there is a hammock. There is also a spa just outside the deck on the way to the beach.
The rest of the house is very much as described in the listing but the level of maintenance is not quite up to the standard we would expect in this price range. The salt spray takes its toll on anything made of steel or wood, with the result that some areas could use a bit of scraping and painting. However, this did not really diminish our enjoyment of the place.
There is plenty of parking, with an electric gate that keeps the parking area private.
Depending on the tide, one may have to walk over some submerged rocks to get to swimming depth. Those with sensitive feet might consider wearing water-sport sandals. Once in the water, the swimming is great, and we saw large turtles almost every day.
Surfing and SUP are possible just a few steps away from the deck.
Communications with Sam and/or Stephanie were efficient and smooth. Stephanie was very helpful in getting back to me a dress that I had forgotten in the house on the day of departure. They also provided good recommendations for nearby services (e.g. surfboard rental).
Our stay at Cotton House 2 met all my expectations and the house is exactly as pictured in the photos. after reading prior reviews I'll mention right away there is a hammock. The spot is absolutely beautiful, and the sea is so close it's actually quite loud (in a pleasant way, of course). From the porch with a drink in hand, you can spot sea turtles coming up for air after munching on turtle grass. If you look to the left it's a popular location for surfers.
If you're bad at math, I'll note the above calculation more clearly: surfers + turtle grass + loud ocean = a rather rough sea with a rather rocky bed. If you were thinking of bringing a pile of small children to laze around and build sand castles, this isn't that kind of beach. but it's only a short walk to Miami Beach for something like that. With that said, we easily found some clear enough spots to get in and swim around. The outdoor shower was great.
The kitchen is well stocked with pots & pans, utensils and a good mixture of glasses and plastic glasses. There is a charcoal grill.
Stefanie was very responsive as was Sam, a second contact person to help with anything you need, like a catamaran reference or where to splurge for dinner. The ten minute walk to Oistins is also gorgeous and convenient (fish fry, grocery, fish market, restaurants). We didn't rent a car, so we just grabbed a taxi if we had a lot to carry from town. I loved this place and will likely return.
The reservation was canceled 216 days before arrival. This is an automated posting.
Really enjoyed our time at the house. Stef was very helpful and responsive to our questions. She helped us with logistical issues at the end of the trip so much thanks!
We enjoyed being able to walk to the fish fry on Friday night at Oistins as well as Miami beach but it would be easier to do things renting a car (the house is a bit of a drive to anything besides Oistins or Miami beach).
With that said the place is gigantic inside and out and would be great for big families or parties. We stayed there for 4 nights and would have happily stayed longer.
However, there are several pictures that are misleading. The "beach" in front of the house is not necessarily calm and is covered in rocks/reef. There is no sandy stretch of beach as seen in the pictures. There are rocks everywhere and we never swam or snorkeled. I would recommend some new pics be taken.
There is also no hammock - which was pretty disappointing. I'm not sure why there is a picture of a hammock if there is no hammock.
This house was a dream. Stefanie was a great host and my friends and I would recommend this home to everyone. We surfed everyday right outside the balcony...it was an amazing experience! THUMBS WAY UP
Could not have asked for a better villa!! Location - perfect! Only a short walk to Oistins and Miami Beach (probably the best swimming/relaxing beach on the island)
The house itself was a dream come true. The veranda was excellent for relaxing and enjoying a few drinks and it was as if the hosts had prepared for everything. Plenty of ice for drinks, a cocktail maker, a BBQ, plenty of fresh towels and the air con in the room was a much needed delight!
We found there to be plenty of hot water (not that we needed or wanted it for showering!!) despite having a storm day.
Hosts were excellent at organising trips/ giving advice. They organised a great boat trip and were always available if we needed to ask a question but left us to get on with it.
We were a group of 6 mid 20 year olds and Cotton house provided an ideal base allowing us to avoid the tourist traps and see the real Barbados.
Would recommend this to anyone - I am just sad we weren’t there for longer!
Thanks again Stefanie and Sam - it was the holiday of a lifetime!
The cotton house is right in front of a beautiful beach and water literally laps at the foundation when the tide comes up! I think it's perfect for surfers and/or if you have rented a car.
There were a few things that I feel should have been mentioned before we arrived so I could prepare all the semi-high maintenance adults I was traveling with. There was no hot water for showers, maybe one person would get a few minutes if the sun was out. There were also little things like no hand soap at any sink and we had to go buy toilet paper... The hammock had just broke which was a crushing surprise, but I'm sure it's been replaced by now.
I highly recommend staying there with any amount of friends, just make sure you let everyone know what to expect.
