Our motto; "There are no strangers here, only friends that haven't met yet"
We offer clean, spacious en-suite rooms with Digital TV, ipod dock, DVD player, hairdryer, free Wi-Fi and tea & coffee making facilities approved by "Visit London"
All prices include a light breakfast which includes tea, coffee, juice, cereal and toast.
Our roooms are situated above our bar, The CHIPP. A traditional London pub with tiles and mirrors dating back to 1900.
I am a member of The British Institute of Innkeepers(BII) & The Campaign for Real Ale (CamRA) so you can be assured that the bar is professionally run and the beer is in tip top condition.
In the bar as well as our great range of beers, wine, spirits and soft drinks you can sample the marvellous authentic Thai food from Ben's Thai Restaurant. A Maida Vale tradition for over 20 years.
We are situated close to Paddington train station, which is ideal for the Heathrow Express/Connect.
We are also close to tourist attractions such as Little Venice, Regents Park for London zoo, Madame Tussauds, Marble Arch & Oxford street.
For the cricket enthusiast we are a 20min walk from Lord's.
For the soccer fan it is only a short bus ride directly to Chelsea's Stamford Bridge, Fulham's Craven Cottage or QPR's Loftus road.
In fact you can get to most attractions via public transport within 30mins from The Chipp.
We are within a 5-8min walk of 3 tube stations. Maida Vale (Bakerloo), Westbourne Park (Hammersmith & City) and Queens Park (Overground).
We are also served by London Bus routes (phone number hidden)4. The No. 18 also runs close by which takes you to Euston & St. Pancras (Eurostar). Most of these operate 24hours.
Unfortunately we have no on-site parking but there are plenty of pay & display bays on the streets adjacant to us.
Although we do advise you it is best to leave the car at home and use public transport.
We are also part of the London rock'n'roll tour as this is the venue where Joe Strummer started his career with the 101ers prior to gaining fame with The Clash in the 70's.
We hope to welcome you soon to The Chippenham.
Mango & Silvana
The Chippenham is a great hotel for the budget conscious as well as tourists simply looking for a bed and breakfast. The hosts and staff are very friendly and helpful. Even made a friend at the bar below. Location wise, you can opt to walk to Warwick Avenue station (~15 minutes) or take a bus to Paddington (~15 mins). It is also located in zone 2, relatively near to the city centre, so travelling times are generally cut short.
The rooms I stayed at (had a change of room due to a storm) were clean and inviting, with the bedding particularly comfortable.
Overall great value for money!
I enjoyed this old historic pub hotel very much. The hotel is at a literal cross-roads of London society, ethnically and economically, and I found it interesting just to walk in the streets around the hotel, where there is a great diversity of local shops and people, but not like in the expensive fashionable areas of London. A local post office with cafe is just around the corner, and I found this very useful too.
This is a great place to stay for easy and comfortable in and out of Heathrow. Tomas is a warm, welcoming guy who totally saved my butt from a prior last second Airbnb cancellation. It was so cool to be living above a pub in West London for a few days. The room was surprisingly quiet and quite clean and well maintained. The location was great no more than 12 minutes from the Kilburn Park tube stop on the Bakerloo line. Real stand up shower with good water pressure and temperature control. Reliable internet service in room and downstairs at the pub using The Cloud - similar to many cafe's around town. The Thai food at the pub downstairs was fresh and delicious and the staff and patrons were warm and welcoming. Thank you!
At £40 per night above a pub, one does not expect an oasis. The staff were friendly. However, the toilet seat in my very cramped bathroom was utterly detached from the toilet, a miserable experience. Otherwise, the room, which reeked of smoke, was tolerable for one night. Again, situated above a bar, one does not expect country air and quiet.
I had to cancel my second two nights the day before I arrived, since I discovered my flat was available early. Very thankful I was able to get into my flat sooner since the hotel room was worse than anticipated.
However, I was told by Jack, who spoke to Mango on the phone in my presence, that, despite the hotel's cancellation policy at Airbnb, they would refund the second two nights I had prepaid. On checkout the next morning, I was told by Jack that instead of receiving the refund from him, I would have to apply for the refund through Airbnb. I discovered on attempting to do so that, because of the cancellation policy, a refund was not possible unless initiated by the hotel manager Mango. Mango did not respond to my communications about this through Airbnb. I can only assume, therefore, that he declined to refund the second two nights. This would have been acceptable had he just told me that outright, or had Jack, his staff member do so, rather than promising a refund which it seems he had no intention of actually tendering.
I cannot recommend the hotel, except in dire emergency.
Great host and a great experience. It's a small hotel above a pub rather than a traditional airbnb shared apartment, but it was still a clean and comfortable space at a very good rate about a 10 minute walk to the underground and a 30 minute walk to Hyde Park. Mongo was very accommodating and responsive. Even when my flight ended up being delayed, he had a staff member stick around til well after closing time of the pub to make sure I got in alright and got the keys to my room. He'll be my first email if I find myself heading back to London anytime soon.
good option for a last minute short stay. very helpful with directions and tips.
The idea of staying in a quaint hotel room over a pub sounds better in theory than in practice. My stay started poorly as the host didn't respond to an email asking for the exact address and best way to get there, making finding the place a bit trickier. The staff were friendly enough and the room was clean and well kept. However there is poor air circulation and it can get really humid and stuffy on a hot day. Normally an open window would solve your problems but here the pub dynamic comes into play. Unless you plan on coming home after 1-2AM, it is going to be loud outside - particularly on a Fri/Sat night.
The other challenge comes in the morning, because if you leave early and expect to come back to your room before the pub opens again you're out of luck. Make sure to get the back door key for the mornings as well as late evenings - this is something the staff didn't bother pointing out and could have posed real problems if you had a flight to catch.
Overall, despite the reasonable price, this was more of a pain than it was worth.
Convenient place to stay, 10 minute walk to tube and 15 minute bus to Paddington station.
The staff was friendly and very helpful, let me drop bags off before checkin time. Despite being over a pub on a Saturday night my room was quiet. My room probably could use a fresh coat of paint but bedding and etc was clean and comfortable.
Great place! I was only in London for a couple days and the location of this room made it easy to explore the area. It was definitely the first time I've stayed in a hotel above a pub. Very cool!
Had a good stay - the service was friendly. The Chippenham isn't the Hilton but the room was perfectly functional and I was mainly there to sleep. The only downside was a weird beeping in the hallway overnight but I'm sure this isn't a common experience. All in all, a good stay - Mango was very easy to deal with and quick to respond and provided helpful information about getting there.
This is the final rate, including any fees from the host and Airbnb.
