About this listing
Our boutique B&B is a cosy little hideaway, where you can relax and take it easy reading by the fire, or make the most of the great outdoors and take to the hills, the sea or enjoy some lovely cycling routes right on our doorstep. You decide!
Our boutique style B&B is an old country cottage with the Wild Atlantic Way passing right by our gate and in very close proximity to some beautiful beaches.
The accommodation comprises a cosy bedroom with en suite shower room. The accompanying sitting room, which is for your sole use, has a lovely stone fireplace and wood burning stove, balancing traditional charm with a modern contemporary style. You will have your own entrance and key so you can come and go as you please and this affords a lot of independence and privacy. There is also a T.V., DVD player and radio / CD.
A help yourself continental style breakfast is included in the price of your stay and is available to you in your sitting room, and to suit your own timetable.
The spectacular scenery all around us is second to none and consists of breathtaking seascapes and panoramic views of the mountains of Co Mayo, including Croagh Patrick which is only a short drive away.
Opportunities for many activities are in abundance right on our doorstep such as hillwalking, rambling, cycling, surf and rock fishing, surfing, sea kayaking, horse riding etc. most of which we have first hand experience of.
The local town of Louisburgh is host to some great pubs, cafes and restaurants, together with a supermarket, library ( with internet access ) and the Granuaile Heritage Centre.
Guests have their own private bedroom and sitting room with it's own entrance for which they will have a key. There is a lovely garden to ramble, with garden furniture for sitting outside.
Interaction with Guests
We are very happy to have lots of interaction with our guests. We live in the house so are available to answer any questions and to offer plenty of advice about the area, places to visit and eat etc.
We live in a lovely rural location with views of the mountains (including Croagh Patrick, Mweelrea and the Sheeffrey Hills) and are just a mile walk from a beautiful sandy beach, suitable for swimming, surfing and other water sports. We are on the route of the Wild Atlantic Way and are just 10km's from Silver Strand, one of the 'Discovery Points' of this spectacular drive.
Because of our remoteness, public transport is limited. There is a daily bus from Westport to Louisburgh and a train service from Dublin to Westport. Travel from Knock airport is by private car or bus.
Must have fun!
We very much enjoyed our stay at Venture Killeen. The location was perfect for hiking the coast, visiting archeological sites and swims in the ocean! We loved the cozy house and warm fire that we returned to each evening.
Everything about our stay was fantastic. Alex and Therese were absolutely wonderful hosts and the place just perfect for a short getaway.
We would absolutely stay again and recommend it to anyone traveling in the area. And the area/region itself is truly beautiful.
It was a perfect short holiday. Thank you both.
Una habitació molt càlida i comfortable. Uns amfitrions de primera categoria. Molt recomanable.
The stay has been marvellous, despite of the weather. The room offered is actually a bedroom with en-suite bathroom and an adjacent living room for your sole use with sofas, a fire place and basically everything you need to make you feel at home. And you can see that Alex and Therese have a feel for design- as another review put it: it is even nicer than in the photos...
Alex and Therese have been very friendly and helpful hosts, offering help, giving advice about the area and caring that their guests would feel fine. They even invited me over for dinner one night, thanks a lot again. I can really recommend this B&B to anyone.
We had an excellent time staying at Venture Killeen for four nights earlier this week. Alex and Therese were wonderful hosts, very welcoming and helpful. Their cottage was warm and very comfortable. The location is superb, near spectacular beaches and hills, but yet with easy access to Louisburgh and Westport. I do hope that we will return before too long.
My 14 yr old daughter and I stayed at Venture Killeen last week for 3 nights. Alex and Therese are wonderful hosts, and I can't imagine anything they could have done better! The thought and love they have put into the B and B rooms was obvious in every detail of our stay- from their welcoming words, perfect breakfast, to the spotless and wonderfully decorated home. We get very much at home in their lovely B and B.
The area is very quiet, but an easy walk to the beach, and an easy 10 min drive to the local town with several pubs, a grocery store, and friendly folks. The surrounding scenery is spectacular, and the location was perfect for us.
A nice and warmful welcome with a few very delicate attentions.
I really enjoyed the stay.
Many thanx to Alex and Therese : they were the perfect hosts
In 8 words: this is the place to sleep in the Mayo!
About the Host, Alex
Hi, I'm Alex,
And together with my wife, Therese, run our boutique style B&B, Venture Killeen.
We visited this area in 2001 and marvelled at it's beauty and relaxed atmosphere to such an extent that we never actually went home!
We have two young children ( 11 & 12 yrs ) and a very friendly Jack Russell. Also a garden of about an acre into which we try to encourage as much wildlife as possible.
We will look forward to welcoming you into our home and introduce you to many, many more delights that surround us here at Venture Killeen.
