Our boutique B&B is a cosy little hideaway, where you can relax and take it easy reading by the fire, or make the most of the great outdoors and take to the hills, the sea or enjoy some lovely cycling routes right on our doorstep. You decide!
Our boutique style B&B is an old country cottage standing in an established 1 acre garden with the Wild Atlantic Way passing right by our gate. We are 1km from the Atlantic Ocean, 7kms from the nearest rural town of Louisburgh and 25kms from Westport Co. Mayo. Westport was voted by readers of the Irish Times the best place to live in Ireland.
The accommodation is adjoining the hosts' residence and comprises a cosy bedroom with en suite shower room. The accompanying sitting room, which is for guests' sole use, has a lovely stone fireplace and wood burning stove, balancing traditional charm with a modern contemporary style. You will have your own entrance and key so you can come and go as you please and this affords a lot of independence and privacy. Tea and coffee making facilities are available together with a pullout guest bed, should there be a third guest. There is also a T.V., DVD player and radio / cd. We have bikes available for your use, which includes rain gear, a rucksack and helmets. There are some fantastic cycle routes right on the doorstep, as well as the Greenway cycle path which runs all the way from Westport to Achill Sound. If water sports is your thing, we also have a surf board that you can borrow.
The spectacular scenery all around us is second to none and consists of breathtaking seascapes and panoramic views of the mountains of Co Mayo, including Croagh Patrick which is only a stone's throw away.
Opportunities for many activities are in abundance right on our doorstep such as hillwalking, rambling, cycling, surf and rock fishing, surfing, sea kayaking, horse riding etc. most of which we have first hand experience of.
The local town of Louisburgh is host to some great pubs, cafes and restaurants, together with a supermarket, library ( with internet access ) and the Granuaile Heritage Centre.
If you'd like a packed lunch to take with you on a day out, that can be arranged. In all our cooking, our emphasis is on home cooked food. Don't expect the 'full Irish' breakfast, instead look forward to a continental style breakfast with home baked scones, pancakes, cereals, eggs and fresh fruit and yogurt.
We are a relaxed, easy going family with two young children ( 11 and 10 ) and are very flexible when it comes to organising your own specific timetable.
Our aim will be your comfort!
Guests have their own private bedroom and sitting room with it's own entrance for which they will have a key. There is a lovley garden to ramble, with garden furniture for sitting outside.
Interaction with Guests
We are very happy to have lots of interaction with our guests. We live in the house so are available to answer any questions and to offer plenty of advice about the area, places to visit and eat etc.
We live in a lovely rural location with views of the mountains (including Croagh Patrick, Mweelrea and the Sheeffrey Hills) and are just a mile walk from a beautiful sandy beach, suitable for swimming, surfing and other water sports. We are on the route of the Wild Atlantic Way and are just 10km's from Silver Strand, a most beautiful beach with a lovely headland walk to enjoy.
Because of our remoteness, public transport is limited. There is a daily bus from Westport to Louisburgh and a train service from Dublin to Westport. Travel from Knock airport is by private car or bus.
Must have fun!
We loved it! The hosts and the house were both amazing -- in our two week trip to Ireland, this was the only B&B we stayed at where the rooms were actually nicer than the pictures :) Breakfast was delicious, and their homemade bread was superb. They let their dog, Scamper, keep us company while we ate (we love having pets around) and he was absolutely adorable. We were only there for one night, but Alex and his wife gave us great tips for what to do in the area. We went on an amazing walk at a nearby beach per their recommendation that definitely made the trip to Louisburgh worth it.
We'll definitely stay here again if we can the next time we visit the area.
Alex and Therese and their family, have a wonderful home. They are excellent hosts and made us feel very welcome during our two night stay. The accommodation is part of an old cottage and was very cosy and full of character and Alex kindly prepared the fire each evening. The breakfast was delicious and abundant and the surrounding scenery stunning. I would highly recommend a stay in Venture Killeen.
I really enjoyed my stay in this B&B. The place is amazing and the hosts very friendly. The two rooms are cozy and comfortable. The breakfast was delicious. If you are in the area don't look further more, you won't go wrong with this place.
Stop searching and book this place! I could not imagine a better Irish experience and I owe so much to Venture Killeen! Alex & his family made me feel right at home from the moment I arrived. It's comfy & cozy, has everything you could need or want, is a beautiful walk to the beach with horses, sheep & cows all around. From this home base I easily went to the Aran Islands, hiked the Reek, explored Westport & Galway, experienced the Cliffs of Moher & so much more! Breakfast was always more than I could even eat (best scrambled eggs ever!) and a glass of wine with the whole family one night was an absolute pleasure! I meant it when I told these folks that one day I hope to be their neighbor, that's how much I loved it!
Alex and Therese, and their home, were wonderful. I very much enjoyed the silence of their rural community, the luxury of a private sitting room and entrance to the bedroom suite, and a wonderful feast for breakfast on both days I stayed. They graciously accommodated my dairy and wheat diet restrictions. All in all, if you want to be in the countryside, this is a wonderful place to stay.
Hi, I'm Alex,
And together with my wife, Therese, run our boutique style B&B, Venture Killeen.
We visited this area in 2001 and marvelled at it's beauty and relaxed atmosphere to such an extent that we never actually went home!
We have two young children ( 10 & 11yrs ), a very friendly Jack Russell and four laying hens. Also a garden of about an acre into which we try to encourage as much wildlife as possible.
We will look forward to welcoming you into our home and introduce you to many, many more delights that surround us here at Venture Killeen.
