This setting is for the ADVENTUROUS TRAVELER! In June, July and August we have a THREE NIGHT minimum.
The Cottages at Country Flat Farm are a unique getaway in the Big Sur Coastal Mountains between Carmel and Big Sur, California. These charming cottages each have a queen bed, full kitchen, gas fireplace, queen futon couch, decks and clawfoot bathtub with gorgeous views of the Pacific Ocean and surrounding Santa Lucia Mountains. They were esthetically designed and built with recycled, local materials in a very eco friendly manner. We have recently installed BEAUTIFUL NEW BAMBOO FLOORS that add charm and comfort to your stay! We are off the grid, solar powered, with a spring fed stream for water, provide internet access.....a luxurious, country retreat overlooking a working organic farm. Peace, serenity and regeneration are the themes of your stay.
Lemons, honey, fruit trees, veggies in season await the visitor. All you need to bring is your food and drink. Great hiking nearby, Monterey Peninsula (north) and Big Sur village (south) each 30 minutes driving time feature great restaurants and activities. THIS IS A NO SMOKING PROPERTY!
We are 2.5 miles from Highway 1, then 1 mile on a good, yet bumpy in some places, steep in others dirt road off the paved Palo Colorado Road. We meet all guests upon arrival on the paved road, show you how to drive it, and guide you to the farm. Driving directions are sent upon final payment. We STRONGLY recommend an all wheel drive vehicle because 2 wheel drives chew up the road and annoy neighbors. In winter (November through March) we are now REQUIRING ALL WHEEL DRIVE VEHICLES. If you are uncomfortable with or unfamiliar with driving off paved surfaces, please consider this before booking. Also, no arrivals AFTER 9 PM. It disturbs the neighbors.
Check out our website on the internet at countryflatfarm.
Rental Agreement which must be signed is emailed to each guest. No smoking, fires, candles allowed. No pets.
We had an absolutely fabulous time on our weekend getaway at the East of Eden Cottage. The drive to the cottage is beautiful! I read other reviews that the ride to the cottage was a little scary. This is nothing compared to my other experiences. The property was gorgeous and well maintained. I really enjoyed eating their honey with my steamed vegetables.
It was raining the whole weekend but it didn't bother us. We actually enjoyed sitting by the window staring out mesmerized by the beauty of the farm.
Janie and Peter are super friendly. We enjoyed chatting with them. They are such wonderful hosts.
Thank you so much for sharing your world!
This place is truly serene. What a beautiful cabin on a beautiful property. Waking up to mountain and ocean views was incredible. It's so quite and relaxing here. Janie provided a list of favorite hikes and local favorite spots. We've spent time camping in this area before, but there is always more to discover. I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking to get away for some quite and relaxation! Wander their farm, read a book on the patio, hike around the property and head down the road to the beach! Fantastic fantastic place!
We had a wonderful weekend here- it was a very relaxing and beautiful spot and a very nice place to stay. We sat out and watched the Geminid meteor shower while listening to the waves in the distance and the trees gently rustling all around us. :-)
We were a little anxious about the drive up, especially after the torrential rain in the area the previous day. However, we made it up in a Taurus; if you keep your car in first gear and take it easy and patiently, I found that is was not too bad of a drive up, and certainly well worth it. It took us around 20 minutes or so to get up or down from Route 1. From the Rt. 1 turn, you're not far from Big Sur to the south and only about 10-20 minutes from Point Lobos (recommend!) or Carmel and the 17 Mile Drive to the north (also highly recommend!).
Very clear instructions for everything, especially how to get there. Beautiful place, beautiful scenery. Everything you need for a perfect, relaxing weekend! Favorite parts of the cabin aside from the view: Fireplace and fully stocked kitchen.
Janie and Peter were great hosts. They have a wonderful little cottage up in the mountains of Carmel. The instructions to get to their place were pretty good and easy to follow. Peter waited for us around 9pm and guided us up to the cottage. The drive up is pretty fun going through tall redwoods and narrow roads. An all-wheel drive or 4-wheel drive car is indeed necessary.
We stayed in a studio style cottage with no curtains and great views. They provided recommendations for places to eat and hikes with their respective driving times. Julia Pfeiffer State Park is about a 45 minutes drive from the cottage, a great scenery drive down Highway 1.
This was exactly what we were looking for... off the beaten path, private and secluded, and in one of the most gorgeous parts of the United States I've ever seen. Janie and Peter were very gracious hosts and they definitely anticipate most if not all of your needs. We loved walking the organic fruit farm at dusk, it's a beautiful setting for any type of trip. We hiked Point Logos and Pfeiffer State Park (be sure to find Pfeiffer beach!) and loved the town of Carmel. Be sure to follow their instructions for the vehicle and the directions!
We are the Eichorn family and have been living here since 1984. Back when our journey began, we were searching for a piece of land where we could build a sustainable home, raise our children in a healthy, pristine environment and have a small family farm. The land was pretty much raw and untouched by human hands except for some logging activity early in the 20th century. Upon visiting Country Flat for the first time, Peter Eichorn, the dad and farmer, crawled through the dense native vegetation so he could touch and examine the soil to determine if it were suitable to sustain our dreams. It more than met his expectations and the rest is history!
We built a rammed earth home and have been living “off the grid” on solar power all these years. We and the land are blessed and sustained by a sweet-water stream. Over the years we have provided organic vegetables for the local Palo Colorado Canyon community where we are located as well as having had a CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) serving 30 families for several years on the Monterey Peninsula. Currently, we primarily focus on our beekeeping endeavors and our Meyer lemon and watercress crops.
We are delighted now to be able to share our vision and bounty with others through our captivating Cottages at Country Flat Farm!
