The Space

This is a detached private studio with 500 sq. ft. and it's own entrance and patio in the back of our home next to "green space". It sits in a lovely neighborhood 2 miles from downtown SLO and Cal Poly University. There is off-street parking provided for one vehicle. The studio includes a queen bed, bathroom with shower, dining table with two chairs and kitchenette. The kitchenette includes a small fridge, microwave, full size sink and dishes/utensils and other culinary tools. Coffee and tea with fixings are provided for our guests. A press pot with hot water kettle or drip coffee machine are provided to make coffee/tea. There is a large closet in the main living area. There is a folding luggage rack and iron/board for your use stored in the bathroom closet. Our guests get a freshly made bed with cotton linens and towel sets for the bathroom.

There is a DVD player with some complimentary movies and large flat screen TV monitor however NO CABLE so only a few channels are accessible. Wireless internet is also provided. You can also connect your laptop to the flat screen and play movies for a nice movie experience if you subscribe to a movie service such as Netflix.

The patio has a teak table with four chairs that's great for dining. For Al Fresco dining, we can make a BBQ grill with stove-top available upon request. You can open the french doors for a nice experience. An umbrella is available depending on the season, as well as a hammock with pillows.

There is a bus stop close by on the main street. It is also near Cuesta College and highway 1. Close by are also a number of good restaurants and wineries including Edna Valley Vineyard .

This place is best suited for a single person or couple with possibly one child. Parties are not allowed.

It is a very quiet place in a nice neighborhood with a lovely view of Bishops Peak from the studio and access to the trails through the neighborhood. Trail views are epic and it is a nice hike to gorgeous scenery and photo ops. In the springtime the wildflowers along the trails are stunning and will be sure to put a big smile on your face. We happily provide hiking information since we frequently walk the trails. Be sure to bring good walking shoes, sun block and a hat if you want to try some of the trails. I also recommend you bring layered clothing and especially jacket/windbreaker for nighttime and mornings, SLO gets very cold at night even in the summer months. If you paint, bring a camera to capture inspirational photos because the setting is magical. There are also plenty of bike trails.

The beach is 10 minutes away and the sunsets on the coast are truly fantastic.

Downtown SLO is 2 miles away and it is an exceedingly vibrant downtown with great restaurants, movie and coffee houses, and is simply nice to walk around. Farmer's Market is every Thursday from 6pm-9pm, live entertainment, great food and interesting people.

The studio is 13 miles from Pismo Beach, 16 miles from Arroyo Grande, 13 miles from Morro Bay, 33 miles from Cambria, 29 miles from Paso Robles, and 94 miles from Santa Barbara - and is exactly between San Francisco and L.A.

If you just want to get away and spend a quiet time in a beautiful place this is the spot for you.

  • I had the most amazing stay at this bnb. Melanie was a great host, came out to greet us and was so warm and welcoming. And the studio comes stocked with almost everything you could need. I forgot sunscreen, not a problem though because the studio had it. I have never used this app before, and for my first experience, this studio did not disappoint. The room is beautiful as are the surrounding grounds, and it is so close to Morro bay and Pismo. I would definitely stay there again!

  • We really enjoyed our stay at Melanie and Scott's beautiful and quiet studio.
My husband Ron and I experienced wine tasting in Paso Robles, visited Hearst Castle, Solvang and Santa Barbara on our way back home. Oh I can't forget the Arboretum at Cal Poly-a must see. We even got to visit 3 Missions in the area! Melanie and Scott were very gracious and the studio was just excellent with all the amenities you could ask for.. We will definitely be making reservations in the future to go back. Thanks to Melanie and Scott for allowing us to stay in your beautiful studio! Kathy and Ron

  • Melanie's studio in SLO was just perfect for our visit. Everything you could need or want is available in the studio. The private patio is such a treat, not to mention the view of Bishop's Peak! Easy access to trails from her house too. Close to town, restaurants, etc. My husband liked all of the computer cables set up to the TV for easy hook-up. A perfect place for a visit to SLO.

  • Melanie and Scott were gracious and welcoming. We greatly enjoyed our stay. The room is lovely, spacious, and comfortable. It is ideally located to beautiful hiking trails and a very short drive to the downtown area. We drove up on a Wednesday, had lunch in Los Olivos, got situated at Melanie's, and then enjoyed an evening soak under the stars at Sycamore Mineral Springs (a short drive away). Grabbed breakfast at Big Sky Cafe, spent the afternoon reading and relaxing on our little patio, hiked Bishop's Peak and grabbed dinner at the SLO Farmers Market. It was a perfect 2 night getaway! Thanks Melanie and Scott, for opening up your home and allowing us to enjoy this beautiful part of California.

  • This place was such the perfect place to stay. It was so cozy and felt like home away from home. The bed was so comfortable we tried to figure out what type of down pillows and blankets they were! Also, there's a mini kitchen with a toaster oven, mini fridge, and microwave. Melanie had everything we needed - plates, cutting board, utensils, PEPPER (I really needed it & I was so happy haha), tea & coffee. The bathroom is spacious & stocked with toiletries in case you forget yours. I appreciated the full length mirror - totally helped me get ready for my wedding. She also had luggage stands, hair dryer, iron w/ ironing board. Free wifi that was faster than mine at home! Also we were able to privately park our car in her driveway. I am so happy we stayed here. If you want a place that speaks comfort, quality, & cleanliness, this is the place to stay!

  • Melanie and Scott are the perfect hosts for a home away from home. They are both incredibly sweet and inviting, and also are quick to respect your space and privacy. If you are looking for the perfect place to stay in California, there is seriously no place better. My wife and I spent a week here for our honeymoon and we did not want to leave! The city is amazing and thanks to Melanie's recommendations left in the room, we were able to explore and experience all the awesome places in SLO. The room itself was superb -- movies and games if you want to stay in and Melanie even had snacks waiting for us in the room. The bed is SO comfortable -- we actually asked where she purchased the sheets. The room itself is immaculate and inviting -- we really felt like it was an extension of our home.

The last thing I will say is that SLO is a dream city -- we felt like we were in another country. The area is gorgeous -- beautiful beaches and incredible mountains all in one place. This really was a dream vacation for us and made for the perfect honeymoon. We were so blessed to meet Melanie and Scott and we can't wait to go back!

  • What a wonderful find! I was staying in SLO for 2 nights, happily over a Thursday when I was able to experience the Farmer's Market. Melanie's studio was perfect - 5 minutes' drive from the center of the town, and right on the edge of the hills. The studio itself was immaculate, and very high quality - a bed that was more comfortable than the one I have at home, white fluffy towels worthy of a 5 star hotel, thoughtful stocks of snacks and toiletries etc.

Melanie left a very useful list of local places to visit and things to do - I am pleased to report that I made it to the top of Bishop's Peak and back in less than 2 hours, and I thoroughly recommend the Upper Crust Trattoria where I met up with friends afterwards for amazing cocktails and a fig and prosciutto pizza and mussels in broth, all discounted for happy hour.

I have passed through SLO on my way north many times, but have never had the opportunity to stay before - now I can't wait to go back! And I would recommend Melanie's studio to anyone wanting to have a peaceful or romantic trip.

  • Melanie's studio in SLO is by far the best experience I have had since I started using Airbnb. The location, ambience, the room and the patio - everything is just perfect. Melanie is an awesome hostess and the studio had every single thing you might think of on a vacation. Beautifully decorated and spotless. The snack basket was very welcoming as well. Our stay in SLO was definitely made ten times more memorable due to Melanie's studio. I dont think theres any place that could be better than her's in SLO!

  • We had an excellent stay and wish we could have stayed longer! The main purpose of our trip was a party in Paso Robles (where motels charge $200/night!). So glad we drove the extra 30 minutes to stay in SLO. Beautiful town, beautiful private studio, absolutely no problems at all. Melanie made everything very easy, even though we arrived very late. She had a nice welcome note in the room, with easy instructions for our stay (using the lock, etc.) and a very helpful printout of her own personal review of restaurants, coffee shops, sites to see. I'd love to come back!

  • Another perfect stay at Melanie's studio. Bottom line: If you are coming to SLO you won't find better accommodations at any price. Stop looking and book now.

From our prior review: Melanie's studio was perfect. Great location (safe upscale neighborhood, close to hiking, mountain biking, downtown and Cal Poly), comfortable (great bed) private studio with many extras such as a your own patio with umbrella, patio set and views. Clean, clean, clean and high thread count sheets and luxurious towels. Melanie was nice enough to provide a great snack basket which came in handy as we hiked up nearby Bishop's peak.

Jewelry Designer & Teacher
Hello! I do jewelry design and teach my techniques nationally and internationally and receive great fulfillment from my work. I have lived in SLO for 20 years and absolutely enjoy it. I am a lover of Jesus, and appreciate studying the NIV translation of the Bible. I am married to a very loving, charming and handsome husband named Scott. As a host I treat my guests as I would like to treated. Hospitality is a fine art of graciousness and I take joy in giving and receiving it. The other golden rule I strive to follow is "in humility consider others better than ourselves." Philippians 2:3 As a guest, I believe I am considerate. I have respect for other's property and belongings as if they were my own. I do like my privacy especially when I am traveling on business and like having quiet evenings to decompress, read and relax.
