It is a very quiet place in a nice neighborhood with a lovely view of Bishops Peak from the studio and access to the trails through the neighborhood. Trail views are epic and it is a nice hike to gorgeous scenery and photo ops. In the springtime the wildflowers along the trails are stunning and will be sure to put a big smile on your face. We happily provide hiking information since we frequently walk the trails. Be sure to bring good walking shoes, sun block and a hat if you want to try some of the trails. I also recommend you bring layered clothing and especially jacket/windbreaker for nighttime and mornings, SLO gets very cold at night even in the summer months. If you paint, bring a camera to capture inspirational photos because the setting is magical. There are also plenty of bike trails.
The beach is 10 minutes away and the sunsets on the coast are truly fantastic.
Downtown SLO is 2 miles away and it is an exceedingly vibrant downtown with great restaurants, movie and coffee houses, and is simply nice to walk around. Farmer's Market is every Thursday from 6pm-9pm, live entertainment, great food and interesting people.
The studio is 13 miles from Pismo Beach, 16 miles from Arroyo Grande, 13 miles from Morro Bay, 33 miles from Cambria, 29 miles from Paso Robles, and 94 miles from Santa Barbara - and is exactly between San Francisco and L.A.

Melanie was incredibly helpful by being very clear and concise on what was expected of us and what we could expect from her listing. She was very attentive to any messages I sent her, and while I unfortunately did not meet her, the studio was beautifully prepared and I thoroughly enjoyed my time in San Luis Obispo! Thank you Melanie, I hope to be back in the future.
Hiking Bishop's peak was amazing and the Melanie's listed property was right at the base of the hill going to Bishop's peak! Fun and not too tough of a hike for someone who is in okay shape. In addition, coming from Los Angeles, driving around in San Luis Obispo was very relaxing and pleasant.
This was my second time staying at Melanie's studio and it was just as wonderful as the first time! The studio is adorable, love the large bath towels, the bed was endlessly comfortable, the cold bottled water and snacks were a huge treat as we decided last minute to hike Bishop Peak.
Melanie makes it very easy to arrive at any time, and to come and go as you please. There are snacks and bathroom supplies in case you've forgotten anything. The shower and bed are both wonderful and the outdoor area is perfect to relax.
As Airbnb hosts ourselves, we have stayed in numerous locations and Melanie and Scott's "Studio with private patio and view" is by far, the nicest place we have stayed thus far. If we 'only' had one word to describe their place, it would be "UPSCALE" as it is loaded with amenities and a plethora of extras. The attention to detail and cleanliness are impecable. The neighborhood is quiet and safe with some extraordinary homes surrounding. Melanie and Scott were very welcoming and gracious hosts who were attentive to any quesiton or need that arose as well as respectful to our privacy. If we could compare this place with other five star Airbnb places; it is definitely worth ten stars. Anything you could possibly think of needing while away from home; don't worry because they have already thought of it and provided it. Scott and Melanie spared no expense in their remodeling of this quaint little spot. Every detail was thoroughly thought out and expedited just beautifully. From the crown molding surrounding the ceilings to the mathching baseboard and even the mirror on the wall has the same molding as the door. The french doors opening into their intricately detailed patio was certainly a plus. Before we even unpacked, the hamock was calling my husband's name and provided a much needed nap from our lengthy travels. The outdoor furniture is stylish and extremely comfortable and the patio has fabulous hanging lights which add to the ambiance. The bed is 'top notch' with comfort beyond belief; felt like you were in a cloud. It appears that everything in their studio is the 'best' that money can buy. We believe this is the best value for your dollar in the entire San Luis Obispo area. If you are looking for a nice, quiet and relaxing place where you feel like it is truly your 'Luxurious Home Away From Home' then this is the place for you. We enjoyed our stay so much we had great difficulty leaving as we just wanted to hang out on the patio. We are definitely planning on returning as soon as time allows. Thank you Melanie and Scott for a fabulous experience; you're the greatest! If you ever want to visit Yosemite, please come stay with us in "The Comfort Zone" located in Groveland!
Melanie was a wonderful host and her guest accommodations were the cleanest and most comfortable we have experienced through Airbnb. It felt like a luxury hotel. We would absolutely recommend and would love to stay at her place again. The location is also perfect and easy to access downtown and great hiking. The beach is only 10 minutes away as well.
Melanie and Scott are excellent hosts. They were very welcoming and make us feel comfortable. They gave us very goods tips for our visit in the area (hikes, restaurants...). The place is very well located, in a quiet street surrounded by beautiful mountains easy to access for hiking. The studio has everything that we needed and the garden was charming. We highly recommend that place.
This studio with private patio was probably our most relaxing part of our roadtrip! Melanie and her husband were very welcoming and she even made towel figurines of birds and a heart since it was our honeymoon. She provided a lot of recommendations for places to eat and drink in SLO, as well as hikes and views around the area which was much appreciated. The snack and toiletries were such a thoughtful gesture and came in handy. Unfortunately it rained so we couldn't hike Bishop Peak but the views from the studio were spectacular. The bed was very comfortable and the studio was very clean.
About the Host, Melanie
Hello! I do jewelry design and teach my techniques nationally and internationally and receive great fulfillment from my work. I have lived in SLO for 22 years and absolutely enjoy it. I am a lover of Jesus, and appreciate studying the NIV translation of the Bible. I am married to a very loving, charming and handsome husband named Scott.
As a host I treat my guests as I would like to treated. Hospitality is a fine art of graciousness and I take joy in giving and receiving it. The other golden rule I strive to follow is "in humility consider others better than ourselves." Philippians 2:3
As a guest, I believe I am considerate. I have respect for other's property and belongings as if they were my own. I do like my privacy especially when I am traveling on business and like having quiet evenings to decompress, read and relax.
