One blovk form the main drag with markets, supermarkets and hib of activity you will find this gem of a property located inside a private gated community!
The property is a 3 bedroom house with a samll garden.
The home consists of a downstairs open plan lounge and dining area, and a fully equipped kitchen. The owner tends to leave tons of food and condiments which she would love you to have! As she loves cooking, there is every imaginable appliance int he home.
Dowsntairs there is also a laundry room with a washing amchine and a guest bathroom.
The home has cable tv in the lounge, and in one of the rooms upstairs. There is wifi throughout.
Upstairs there is a master bedroom comprising a kingsize bed, with ensuite bathroom with a great shower! (huge showerhead). Additionally there are 2 double bedrooms with one double bed each. These bedrooms share a bathroom with shower and bath.
The home also has a small garden with hammocks and a barbecue area.
This place is tucked away in a neat littel spot, quiet yet so close to all the activity.
This is a lovely house, in a safe gated community. The master bedroom not only has an ensuite and dressing room, but when you open the curtains, the window is filled with a fabulous volcano view.
It's someone else's house of course, so - just like your own home - it's maintained to homely standards not 5star hotel standards. Very stylish, and I loved the humming bird that visited the back garden. Some minor management issues, but they didn't stop the house providing an excellent base for an exciting holiday.
Overall, we enjoyed staying at the "Modern, central with volcano views" apartment. A few things to note, if you select this unit.
The apartment is about 6 blocks, easy walking distance, to the center of town (Parque Central/Cathedral). The grocery store, El Bodegon, is also very close and along the way to the town center.
A gated community with security and off-street parking are huge pluses to this place. It's on a fairly busy street, but once you're in the small neighborhood, the street sounds disappear. You do hear the sounds from the neighbors though - talking, dogs barking, etc.
The 3 bedroom/2.5 bath was more than sufficient for us as we were only 4 people. The master bedroom has a nice porch and view of the volcano. The bathroom and kitchen are a bit dated, but that was of no consequence to us. The 2 hammocks are a nice touch and we enjoyed them. However, they hang in the sun during most of the day, which is a shame. Maybe the owners could consider drilling hooks in the porch columns to hang them there.
Since eating out in Antigua can be rather pricey, we made very good use of the kitchen for all meals. It was well-stocked with all cooking needs. I would suggest a few more pots be added to the kitchen, as there are mainly pans to cook with in the cupboards. The kitchen also has a lot of spices/food that guests can make use of during their stay. However, I'd highly recommend the owners/property managers consider throwing much of it away, as a lot of it is expired and could be considered a health risk.
The lighting in the kitchen was also a bit dim, and I believe one bulb blew out on the last morning. Suzanne, the property manager, replaced non-functional bulbs the day we arrived, which was very attentive.
Upon first glance, the apartment seems well kept, and the linens are clean. The bathrooms seem clean, but could use an extra scrubbing. The cleaning service has done a very poor job of dusting the furniture and sweeping/mopping the floors. With respect to the floors, unfortunately, I would drop my rating to one star. You cannot walk around the apartment barefoot, because within a minute (and that is no joke), your feet are black.
The furniture is in good condition. The beds are firm. We didn't use the pillows as they smelled of many sweaty heads that have used them. Perhaps it's time to replace them. The living room couch is comfortable although a bit dirty. The dining room table was fine. There was a table with chairs on the 1st floor porch, but the chair seats (of cloth) are quite dirty and stained.
Townhouse style 2 story home in a gated community. Upstairs has 3 bedrooms and 2 baths. Downstairs has open living room dining room and modest kitchen, small toilet and sink bathroom and washing machine. Quiet group of around 10 homes, many retired Americans, very helpful and friendly guards at gate. It was comfortable for us and Valerie's manager Suzie was terrific. Friendly, welcoming, flexible. We never met Valerie as she was out of the country.
Very well located, beautiful house! Amazing little corners to enjoy a relaxing time. Great volcano views!
