DX Lodge Roatan (see Chillax Roatan for our vacation rental listing) is a competition grade ham radio station designed for top performance, reliability, and flexibility. The home of HQ9X.

5 bed/4 bath & private pool★Comfortably sleeps 10★Covered outdoor deck/dining with BBQ★Free A/C, parking, and WiFi★Fully equipped kitchen★A few minutes from beaches, dining, bars, and shopping in West End, West Bay, and Sandy Bay.

The space
Roatan, off the mainland coast of Honduras, is a slice of heaven. Sufficiently rare DXCC entity and WPX prefix to drive endless pileups, yet not rare to the point where pileups are unruly and difficult to maintain good run rates.

The station supports SO2R, Multi-Single, and Multi-Two entries.

DX Engineering Skyhawk on a 50’ tower (total of 200’ ASL) that offers outstanding pileup busting performance on 20, 15, and 10 meters. This is a high performance 10 element tribander, with no traps or loading coils. 3 full size elements on 20 and 15 meters and 4 elements on 10 meters.

Full size verticals on 80 and 40 meters, each with 32 radials.
Inverted L on 160 meters.

Reliable Yaesu G-1000DXA rotator controlled via Green Heron RT21 controller (and via computer using a USB cable)

Quick and easy antenna switching and sharing between the two operating positions using Array Solutions/Hamation 2 x 8 switch and switch controller. Each radio can select any available antenna. Switch wiring emphasizes antenna separation. There is an antenna switching chart at each operating position.

The Skyhawk tribander’s feedline is separated into 3 individual feedlines for 20, 15, and 10 meters using a high power VA6AM triplexer. This allows the tribander to be shared by both radios at the same time on two different bands.

RFI and intra-station interference has been minimized by the use of high power VA6AM bandpass filters. Additional coax stubs have been installed at the base of the 80 and 40 meters verticals. Each antenna is fed using high choking impedance current balun and each feedline entering the shack has its own high power common mode choke (K9YC design).

Antenna switching and bandpass filters are all wired on a board in the back room and are switched in when proper band is selected by the operator.

Each operating position is provided with a PL259 coax cable for the linear amplifiers/antennas. To ensure reliable and error-free experience for all guests, guest operators do not have access to the antenna switching and filtering equipment.

Two proven-design and reliable Alpha 99 linear amplifiers with PTT control cable are available, one at each operating position, producing clean 1500W. No ALC cable needed. Each operating position has a chart on the wall with the approximate Load/Tune settings per band.

Where you’ll be

West End, Bay Islands Department, Honduras

Roatan is one of the last pieces of paradise on earth. Endless summer, beautiful beaches, friendly people, good inexpensive food, fabulous snorkeling, world-class diving , great fishing and other water-related activities are just a few things that come to mind when thinking about the beautiful Honduran island Roatan.

Unlike most other popular Caribbean tourist destinations, Roatan does not have any giant hotels, pushy street vendors and obnoxious timeshare sales people. Instead, the island offers accommodations of various sizes that are hidden away between tropical fruit trees and Hibiscus bushes, small, cute, privately owned stores, restaurants and bars, and the opportunity to truly relax or be as active as you want to be.

Though Roatan belongs to Honduras, it is not any less safe than most American or European towns. There is plenty of police on the island assuring the safety of the visitors.

Roatan offers fun and excitement for the entire family. If cause the biggest appeal is the beautiful reef that is easily accessible by water taxi where you can snorkel or dive. Other activities include: dolphin swimming, fishing, parasailing, paddle boarding, kayaking. West Bay beach offers an inflatable water park which is a smashing success with the kids.

Nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts can enjoy island tours, botanical gardens and arboretum tours that not only teach you about various plants but also offer fruit tours where you can sample a number of delicacies that grow on the island while enjoying spectacular views of the island.

Roatan further offers a butterfly garden and an underwater museum.

When you stay with us, you stay with real owners. We strive to offer you a great experience and intimate times with friends and family, not just bedrooms and bathrooms. You will appreciate Laura, our property manager who is warm, caring, and focused on taking good care of you so that you enjoy your vacation and come back again.

We picked this particular house because it has character and offers great opportunities for friends and families to stay and hang out together. We did not want to be right on the beach as the beaches are public and we did not think we can offer privacy AND proximity to entertainment on the island. As the house sits on 1.5 acres, there will be nobody peeking in your windows or walking across the property. No bar crowds. Just you and your family, minutes away from everything you need. We hope you will share the same views and have an unforgettable time at Chillax Roatan.
