About this listing

Gleann Leithin Cottage is a cosy converted byre situated in a very tranquil scenic area.
The view from the cottage looks towards the beautiful Glendowan mountains and Glenveagh National Park.
Ideal for a peaceful retreat or a great base to explore

The space

The cottage consists of an open plan living, dining and kitchenette area with a double sleeping mezzanine above.
There is a small bathroom with an electric shower.
The kitchenette contains an electric hob, microwave oven and small fridge.
Guests have access to a washing machine in an adjacent outbuilding.
The space is heated by a wood-burning stove with fuel provided.
The guest cottage has a private garden, seating area and barbeque to the rear.
As the byre was originally part of a small farm, our own traditional cottage sits on the same site.

If Gleann Leithin Cottage is unavailable for the dates you are interested in, please check out our other listing.
The Hide is a cosy, handcrafted cabin nestled on a slope at the opposite end of our house from the cottage.

Guest access

Glenleighan Cottage shares the site with our own house but guests have use of their own private garden at the rear.
There is access to a washing machine and dryer in an adjacent outhouse.

Interaction with guests

On arrival we will welcome you ourselves.
On the rare occasion that we will not be available to greet you, we will arrange for someone else to be there.
As we live close by, we will be on hand to help with any queries you may have but we aim to ensure that you have privacy while staying with us.
We will be happy to help with arranging tours and providing information on the many varied local activities.

Other things to note

While a car is a great way to see the county, if you visit without one and enjoy hiking or cycling, there is much exploring that you can do from our doorstep. We can provide bikes and maps of the locality to get you started.

We live in a Gaeltacht area rich in traditional Irish culture such as language, music and the arts. There is a wide choice of traditional music available in local pubs
Donegal also has a wealth of festivals throughout the year such as the Errigal Arts Festival, attracting many renowned Irish and International artists to the area.

If you would like to bring an element of pampering into your holiday we have a trained Neuromuscular Therapist who can pay a house call to the cottage and provide treatment for a specific injury or a general massage.
We can also recommend a visit to The Maghery Bay Salon to enjoy a seaweed bath overlooking the
beautiful Maghery beach. This is less than a 30 minute drive from us.

Taking a 15 minute drive from our house will connect you with The Wild Atlantic Way coastal drive.

Staying at the cottage was like a piece of heaven on earth! Cozy, peaceful and with a view that is astoundingly beautiful! It felt like home and I can't wait to go back! Pete and Anna are the nicest people you'll ever meet and went out of their way to be helpful and make me comfortable. I'd give it 10 stars if that were possible!

A great place for solitude if by yourself Quaint and cozy but stairs are steep and if you are over 6ft tall your feet hit the roof when laying down . A bit of a drive to see anything.

Tranquil, secluded and relaxing - all while you disconnect and recharge. The storms that would roll through and leave cotton candy skies were just perfect. You had a wonderful view with a wonderful seating area outside. It was perfect to also have a wood burning stove for the chilly summer nights. You cannot go wrong if you want a place all to yourself while just a quick trip to the coast! Pete & Anna were wonderful hosts and lovely to meet!

We had a lovely time in this very remote and romantic setting. The cottage is rustic, but very cosy and lovingly furnished. The views are stunning and can be enjoyed while snuggling up on the sofa next to the stove. Well equipped kitchen. We are of average height, but a very tall person might find it a little cramped! Ideal for a couple who want to escape from it all.

We stayed on the two properties within Anna and Pete's place as we got ready for our wedding. The beauty of the sorrounding area is more breathtaking than pictures can show. We were at ease, with easy access to Letterkenny and Donegal town but still remote enough to feel like our own piece of paradise in the mountains. Pete and Anna were very kind and helpful on the run up to the wedding, we will definitely be back.

This place was amazing. We stayed at a lot of Airbnb's in Ireland, and this was hands down the best. It was in such a beautiful location, and the cabin itself was lovely. Anna and Pete were very welcoming, and were great hosts. If you're thinking about visiting Donegal, or Ireland in general, this is the place to stay.

Pete And Anna User ProfilePete And Anna is a superhost.

We moved to Donegal twelve years ago and converted our traditional byre and stone cottage where we now happily live with our two young children.
In 2016 Pete completed our second little rental, The Hide, meaning we can be more self sufficient, working more from home while meeting all the lovely people who visit us.
We look forward to welcoming you to one of the most beautiful, unspoiled parts of Ireland!
